- Live Music | Small Batch Sessions; Billy Strings at the John Hartford Memorial Festival 8, recorded June 2018.
One of the top emerging artists across all genres of music, Billy Strings has made his most ambitious album to date with Renewal, a 16-song collection that effortlessly positions him as a singular talent-one who reveres the history of the acoustic music that inspired him, while pushing it forward into new spaces and audiences through his incredible live shows.
Serving as a reflection of Strings' diverse musical influences, Renewal reaches well beyond bluegrass with elements of heavy metal, jam bands, psychedelic music and classic rock-even though it's still primarily an acoustic record. The album follows his Grammy Award-winning project, Home, as well as industry recognition ranging from Pollstar's Breakthrough Artist of the Pandemic to the International Bluegrass Music Association's Guitar Player of the Year and New Artist of the Year.
“I've learned, you've just got to let the song do its thing,” shares Strings. “So that's what I try to do-write songs and let them come out however they do.”
Never in my life would I have envisioned that I would be listening to bluegrass! At 74, I am so "hooked" on Billy Strings, thanks to a friend who introduced me to his music a few years back. I have been to a concert and his music is always on at my house. What a talent! Love, love, love...
Me too! Everyday for the last 2 yrs or so!!😎👍🎶🎵

Thank you for uploading this pure gold gem of a concert!!
You’re very welcome! It was a joy to create and film .
Billy is fabulous - one of the very best out there today. He plays REAL country music.
I've played this tune for 25 years, but Billy's version is the best.
I had the pleasure to meet John Hartford a couple times. I told him
"Mr Hartford, I want you to know I really enjoy your music. "
He replied: "Thank you. You're easily entertained."

Thank U BILLY 🙏, U AND THE BAND ARE QWITE A GIFT.... OMG 🤤.
I certainly am glad that Billy and the band get paid for their music because they would do it for the love of it for free.
Back in the mid 90's, me and a buddy came down to The Bean and saw Jim & Jesse, Larry Sparks and a few other old school bluegrass acts that escape me..... The campground jams too... What a great time that was! I believe this performance is from 2018...there are a few vids of a few songs from this set, but i'm glad you uploaded the entire set. I first saw them in Winnetka in June, 2018, for FREE....i was blown away, and have been on the train ever since.... Kinda wished i went to the Bean to check them out...i think it was after Winnetka when they were still a little known, obscure band....the days of seeing them free are long gone!
EDIT--i see another poster said this was from June 1, 2018. At that time, I had heard of him, but had never actually seen him till the Winnetka Music Festival a week later. Now, i just wish there's a video of that entire set...it was FIRE!!
He grew fast within the next year after this . Two summers later I saw tickets for one of his shows that were $75 for standard and $150 for vip . Just 4-5 months before for that I shot photos for the opening band and the tickets were $12 .
This is close to when it all caught fire and took off! Nice video!
Yes it is . He was on the side stage two years before at this festival. Leftover Salmon and Sam Bush were the headliners . They brought him up the last night to lead out a super jam.
By the 2019 winter he was selling out everywhere. Then by summer he’d completely blown up .
What a treat!! Love Billy 🐐 & John Hartford!!
Billy definitely has that "IT" factor (a.k.a. charisma) in addition to being extremely talented!
Nice concert. In the first song they are echoing "Last Train to Clarksville" at times.
New to this music, saw it on you tube couple weeks ago. Boy can Billy play, enjoying it so much thank you.
Thank you for watching @1066sharpy
Very much appreciated
We have a wide variety of performances check more .
So much talent out there in the roots community.
Dude!!!!God bless for posting this!!!
You’re very welcome
BMFS💗🙌🏼💃💃🔥🔥BLUES THRASH
1st song is basically The Monkees’ Take the Last Train to Clarksville!
4:06, he sings "You may not like the Monkeys, but Billy does....."
@@pamcm1098 I'm pretty sure he's referring to BMFF, tho it looks like they ALL like that song!

What date / year is this?2019?
This is June 1, 2018
The first couple days of June I believe when we shot this . This festival was always right at the end of May beginning of June .
The John Hartford Memorial Festival was one of the best festivals. It just had a vibe about it when you left you felt alone .
Less tats.
Definitely less
You guys should correct the date in the title.
@philthenstedt3337 is correct in stating that this is from 2018!
