Maria's impression of her mother is my favorite from her! 😂
I love her as Amy Sleeverson on bonanas for bonanza podcast
Used to creep me out how fast she could switch up her voice. She's so good at it.
She has a real cavalcade of Upper Midwestern accents and it makes me feel like I'm back home.
I adore Maria. She's one of my favorite comic minds of all time.
Please have her back! Maria is always fantastic 🥰
Always one of my favorites. Maria Bamford is nuts. Her comedy was always all over the place, but funny wherever it took her.
She comes across as a quirky person, but at the same time she also appears quite self-aware and in touch with herself. Listening to her take on things is as funny as hell. For me, she's a new discovery and I'm glad that Conan had her on the podcast
I actually played violin with Maria in Suzuki-started when I was three as well. Lots of the moms were this weird about it like hers (and mine)-very codependent relationships with the teacher. The social aspects were fun but I'd sometimes fantasize about getting hit by a bus on the way to lesson.
Any fellow fiddle student of Maria's is good enough for me.
“The social aspects were fun but I’d sometimes fantasize about getting hit by a bus on the way to lesson” sounds *exactly* like a Maria Bamford line.
Ha! Those formative years together, I guess!@@EvanTreempire
Maria is an absolute GEM of comedy. Her art is uniquely hers, and it's done so well! I've been a big fan of hers since I first saw her perform late at night sometime in the '90s. They said when she was on Conan as I was typing this. lmao
i love her so much -- she breaks my heart and makes me laugh at the same time. nothing better.
Matt & Maria are in Bonanas for Bonanza together!! it's a must listen!!
I have the same type of ocd it’s so nice to hear Conan talking about it- never thought I’d see the day❤
Same! Maria is a great ambassador!
Maria's new book, "Sure I'll join your cult" has lots of stuff about her OCD. I can't recommend it highly enough!
@@rossrobbins7707 thanks!! I’ll definitely get it
“Factory work in a chicken parts situation”. I don’t think it was meant to be funny, but it was my favourite part of the interview. 5:30
Most powerful Conan podcast of them all imo. So dear to me and necessary to hear more of people who've been through hell and made it...Never thought I'd hear this kinda conversation on Conan needs a friend
She's cool. Didn't know her before this episode, to be honest - I didn't get to know each and every American stand-up comedian yet... But Mrs Bamford here: She's definitely cool. I like her. Great guest, absolutely lovely.
Check out some of her stand-up from the 2000s. That's when I discovered her. She's great
"I didn't get to know each and every American stand-up comedian yet"...lol, I don't think anybody expected you to. There are a LOT of American comedians past and present of varying quality, most people are only aware of a scant portion of them.
One of the most underrated comedians around. Her appearances on talk shows were always especially good. Perfect. Her impressions are jarring.
Maria is my Favorite Comedian! I think she could play a great Mitzi (Comedy club) or Joan Rivers in a bio pic.
Maria Bamford is wonderful!
I love her sense of humour. I feel it's dangerous to drink coffee watching this.
Very few comedians can awe you with their talents. Maria Bamford is amazing, so damn funny.
Maria was a lot of fun, delightfully weird
Love her & love to see her happy & healthy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Maria Bamford is an absolute LEGEND ❤
LOVE you Maria ❤ truly one of a kind and one of the greats of all time!
Omg I looooove Maria!! Loved this episode.
I love her so much. I’ve def enjoyed other stand up comedians before but she basically converted me into taking it more seriously as an art form. Obviously comedy is subjective and her work won’t resonate with everyone but the way she touches on certain social phenomena seems almost perfectly suited to my sensibilities.
"Church is where you see a white guy with a hot take on a weird story." OMG, she is hilarious, lol
To me, the funniest woman alive.
More Maria please
Maria, at times is the modern Frankl.
Frankl once told the story of a woman who called him in the middle of the night to calmly inform him she was about to commit suicide. Frankl kept her on the phone and talked her through her depression, giving her reason after reason to carry on living. Finally she promised she would not take her life, and she kept her word.
When they later met, Frankl asked which reason had persuaded her to live?
"None of them", she told him.
What then influenced her to go on living, he pressed?
Her answer was simple, it was Frankl’s willingness to listen to her in the middle of the night. A world in which there was someone ready to listen to another's pain seemed to her a world in which it was worthwhile to live.
Call Hertz 😂😢😜
First, Maria is hilarious...nice seeing her on tv again!😊 I was lucky enough to see her stand up when she was on tour with Patton Oswalt, Zach G. And Brian Posehn. That stand up show was one of the best I have ever seen! In fact...I need to get that DVD, The Comedians of Comedy because it covers that PNW tour.
Second, I did Suzuki piano and violin. Started with the violin at the age of three however I did best with the Suzuki piano and took it for about six years. My mother was a music professor & elementary school music teacher so this was really important to her and understood the benefits of the Suzuki method.
Third, Conan I miss seeing your latenight shows(no matter the network)...and thank you for introducing me to the Head and the Heart. That band is amazing, I was watching your show when I first heard their song "Lost in my mind" and literally went out and bought that album the next day! I love that you love music as much as laughter.
Thank you Conan for making me laugh and bringing heart into everything you do! Much love and laughter from Oregon.😊💚
Maria brings me so much joy.
Some of the best stand-up comedians are literally repackaging Southern Baptist sermons with different words. The repetition, the emphasis, the pacing back and forth.
Chris Rock and Sam Kinison (who was literally an Evangelical preacher) are my favorite examples.
This is why I love her so much! She just KILLS!
Conan mentioned how he had a falcon on his arm or shoulder during his show so I literally Google image searched “Conan O’Brien falcon on arm” to confirm, and the second picture is Conan with his arm around Jordan and I haven’t stopped laughing since.
I had to check this for myself and I can confirm it's true 😂
Maria is the best, this is awesome!
Maria I love the Maria Bamford Show, Lady Dynamite, your Pugs, and all that you are. Thank you for making me feel better. Love. Also, Conan’s ok, too. 😊
Maria Bamford is such a legend
Great interview 😂😂😂
Saw her last year in Rotterdam, still remember random stuff and lol out of nowhere
Her albums are a rollercoaster, buckle up!
I love you Maria.
Nonstop funny. 50% goes over most people's heads.
Maria Bamford great as always! Please put the antiabortion clinic bit, too.
I howled at that bit and really want to see your reactions!
Miss you Conan
probably my favourite episode ever, this and Questlove.
Me too!!
"Got to see a white guy have a hot take on a weird story."
I've loved her since I saw her first comedy central special. Also, I'm a fellow Suzuki Method survivor.
There's a square dance host segment in a Comedy Central-era episode of MST3K. Maria is the one playing the fiddle (offstage). I was at an event many years ago with Maria and Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) both in attendance. I would love to know if he remembered their brief connection (aside from having many many friends in common from the world of SF Sketchfest).
I went to Suzuki camp in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Very cool experience.
"I'm a lovely kitty"🤣
This is nuts. I too got far in Suzuki violin at a young age and it didn't give me joy but I did like going on stage. And I used to recite long Bible verses from memory in front of my church congregation and liked the loud amens of approval once I was finished.
Keep cool my babies, keep cool
To my embarrassment, I've never heard of Maria before. Five minutes in and my first thought is, she is a female Conan.😂. The voices and wit
She is the real deal.
Saaame😂😂 ive listened to her episode 4x already
You're in for a really fun trip down the Maria Bamford rabbit hole-she's really one of the best to do it.
book 8!!!
It's the role in the family she got stuck in that hindered her life. The youngest always gets stood on by everyone, and it's a role you get stuck in. Everyone in the family benefits with emotionally dumping on the youngest and gets strength in standing on them.
Hope she reads this, because all the meds and counseling bs they dragged her through was everyone making a living off of others problems. Hard to step out of the role because it's all you've known. But that is the real truth.
Amy Sleeverson!
I’ve thought Amy Sedaris & Maria Bamford should team up to do a grown-up version of "Broad City".
How did I know immediately that she was raised by a Minnesotan Mom 😂
Nothing in life thrills me like getting my parents to belly laugh. Nothing!
No idea who she is, but the Suzuki method does work.
It does for sure. I got a lot out of it. As someone who went through the program (with Maria, actually), my only caveat is that parents don't get into a friendship or codependent relationship with the teacher that traps the kids after their interest may have waned. A lot of us in our program didn't feel like we could quit and it wasn't good.
Classic chicken parts situation.
Sounds like she should have competed in fiddle contests like I did.
The main natural high/ neuropeptide one gets from when our parents laugh at us is OXYTOCIN, not dopamine Conan ;)
can you hear me now ?
playing ear traffic with the cast and crew
#SaveJanineGarofalo
a chicken parts' situation
Church is a play. Even the audience are acting.
Once you put a name to it, it loses its power. "Why did it have to be octokongs?"
a chicken parts situation....rofl
Are they're speaking of Voting Polls or Skrippa Pole's?
How does she come up with these one liners?
Church is the first stand up she saw, because it was a white guy with a hot take on a weird story.
It is the perfect sentence, let alone joke.
Conan, Luke didn't speak to the Corinthians. And there is a lot of funny stuff in the Bible. Jesus was funny. Really funny. You should read it and try again. :)
Leviticus is a pretty hilarious read too
Maria is my spirit animal, minus the atheism.
I drew a picture of a carrot at work.. then i was drawing the leaves. They reminded me of propellors... So it's a self pulling carrot... seems interesting to me.. and its kind of a masturbation joke... is this anything? am I funny?
I cannot relate to this generational wealth
I ❤ Maria Bamford…. she’s fk’n hilarious!
