    Students learn the significance of the Alamo to the Texas Revolution in this History For Humans episode. The real history of the battle of the Alamo is explored that goes beyond the myth and legend to understand the amazing showdown at the Alamo from multiple perspectives.
    They learn about Stephen Austin and the first American settlers, why Mexico encouraged and then stopped American immigration, and how Santa Anna's abuse of power led to the Texas Revolution. Then they learn how Jim Bowie and William Travis refused to surrender the Alamo, how Davy Crockett and other volunteers decided to fight to the end in a blaze of glory. But students also learn how fighting to protect slavery also was a major part of the revolution and finally how Texas declared independence and secured it with at the Battle of San Jacinto under Sam Houston.
