There is a theory that the time traveller Francis killed marcos dragic because the robot is going to take over the world so Francis kills him but then he gets stuck in 1899 or 1907 hence why the robot is sad after witnessing Marcos' death

The robot turning on its creator reminds me of a weird period of “robot hysteria” in the 1920s and 30s, and a major part of that was Alpha the robot shooting its creator in 1932

Yep, doesn't matter where you are, the lantern will turn red if you're facing the general direction of the robot.
