What a great video on guard retention. Light bulb moment when discussing the psychology of your brain focusing on that one limb pinned and moving two other limbs to free it up. 3 limbs are now out! Wow, that was eye opening. I do that same thing when I roll with more advanced technical opponents. That 1234 drill is a great tool. I’m adding that to my toolbox Thanks professor Tom.
Professor Tom we are finally back rolling in Melbourne, thank you very much for these videos during our 260+ days of lockdown. Been great to keep the mind at least thinking about BJJ and (maybe?) slowing down the rust on techniques :) now we can finally try some of them
Starting to sound like a broken record ,but...once again Great info professor Tom..!! Love the hot potato trick , also great quality filming from Gary..!! OSSS
I've been working a lot on being massively defensive. As somebody who is having to build up strength and conditioning again I'm a lot weaker and less fit than my buddies, so I've found being able to trap people in my closed guard especially is good for me, it allows me to focus on counter attacks and sweeps because they get pissed off that I'm seemingly doing nothing 😂
Thank you for continuing to post some of the best BJJ content on RUclips prof! It's super helpful and I attribute my growth in this art to your valuable lessons.
I feel like the title was a little misleading. I was expecting tips on how to pass guard. But, I need guard retention more anyways so it was a welcome surprise
I most definitely needed this!!! This has instantly elevated my game. Pulling out the dummy to do drills in preparation for class tomorrow! Pure gold!!!!!!
There is a lot of great BJJ content on RUclips, guys I really appreciate, but prof Tom is at a whole other level. Makes me want to make the trek to Australia just to train with him for a bit.
Hey Professor Tom, will there be some kind of Black Friday discount for your tutorials? I've had an eye on them for quite a while and don't want to fall into a trap purchasing it now, when it might be discounted in a few weeks time. Cheers for your great work, has helped me a lot here in Germany!
Making things seem ridiculously simple and logical is prof Tom's signature move at this point.
That switching of the legs when they smash one to block them is lowkey a lightbulb moment never even considered that for some dumb reason

"focus on what you have, not on what you don't"
that's a proper lightbulb moment.
Great concept.
