I ran a homeschool pod during COVID(5 children grades kindergarten,4th,5th,6th). After 2 years of homeschooling after COVID, we stopped to allow the kids to have a public school experience with lots of children to interact with. After 2 years of poor performing schools, we decided to enroll our kids in Valley Oaks Charter School. We still wanted a social experience , but also the freedom to choose our own materials. We haven’t started yet but this school really offers so much. I hope it is a good fit. It sounds a lot like your charter school. Thanks for the information.
I try to remind my self that homeschooling my kids through a charter is better than my kids being out in traditional school.
Thanks for the encouragement and honesty! It helps!!
Thank you!
Your hair is everything!!!! So gorgeous!
Thank you so much!!
I’ve been looking into sage oak charter, are you allowed to use the funds for a field trip with just your family or do you have to go to the ones they schedule?
@@rachellecalzada6081 I just looked into it! There is a pretty good sized list of places you can go that aren’t “field trips”. They only let you use funds for the kids enrolled in the school though!
@@homeschoolatheartthank you for looking into it. I know the charter school puts a lot out there, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to just go with your family. I have applied for my kids to be enrolled with the school so that is good to know that they can use funds for different things. Thank you so much for your videos it has helped us a lot!
@@rachellecalzada6081 you’re welcome!
Homeschooling through a charter as well and it was really nice to hear more about your life!! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! It’s been awesome to find more charter homeschoolers!
I just don't like all the reporting to the superving teachers with utilitizing a Charter such as attendance, work samples, and state testing. It's stressful at times. Our children's "homescool" charter said that if we don't do state testing, they will get kicked out. Their supervising teacher wants work samples that are on grade level and state standard for that time of the year. They want our children to learn certain grade level concepts by a certain time. To me, this is not homeschooling. This feels more like public school at home, which it is. Next school year, we may just homeschool independently or private school. I don't need the extra stress.
This video was super informative. Thank you!! I appreciate that you mentioned the good and the beautiful and beautiful feet as I used both last year and am making the switch to charter and changing some curriculum, but would love to keep elements of these two curricula as we have time.
I’m glad it was helpful!
I don’t even know how to begin to find out how to get funding for homeschooling through a charter school I’m in SC. How should I find out? I have googled several different things and can’t find anything. I’m sure I’m wording it wrong and not looking for the right thing.
We also homeschool with a charter, we're in central Cali though! but we've had a bit of a different experience, they are so much more relaxed, there are no set boundaries except for religious content and they even buy from the good and the beautiful things like manipulatives and readers. my favorite part is that they only ask for one work sample each month, for example one month math, the next month LA. I believe they are in Socal too if you're interested!
it's Heartland Charter School
I’ll look into it!! Thank you!
We are thinking about changing schools because ours is moving more to a home study program and less of a homeschool program so it’s not going to be what we want eventually!
I am wondering if you have to return non-consumable items to your charter? We just got accepted into one and it honestly seems like a major hassle especially since a majority of the resources I would be purchasing would be for all my children throughout all the years...
We keep them. Currently our school only wants back technology items… computers, iPads, Osmo products, things like that. Before that though, they kept a record of what we had and it could be used for as long as we had kids that could benefit from it, then we would return it when we were truly done with it
We do the exact same things for the exact same reasons.
It’s so nice to find families like us! Thank you for commenting!
We homeschool through a charter for those same reasons. Our school is a bit more relaxed. We turn in just one subject every 20 days. Our HST is a big part of why it works so well with us. I feel like they can make it or break it. The funding is a main reason why we continue with the charter! 😃
I think most only require one sample… I don’t know why ours is more! I don’t really mind it… haha! I’m so glad to find more charter school homeschoolers in this space!
@@homeschoolatheart definitely! It’s nice to see more families like us as well. My friends charter requires one sample from each subject every single week. I think that’s overkill. Plus, she’s required to plan her entire year out before the first day of school. I don’t think a rigid schedule like that would work for us.
Last year they had me write out lesson plans for the whole year, but I think it might have just been my TF… this year I haven’t heard anything about that… I’m not asking either 😂
We like charter schools for some of the same reasons, but we don't like all the testing from the state. The funds are why we stay.
Can you give me a ballpark as to the scope of the funds available to homeschoolers working with a charter?
Does your program require that your kids spend some time with their teacher via zoom? If not, what is the name of the program? I would like to see if I can find the same program for my kids where we live. Thank you.
We do not have any instruction through zoom! I teach everything myself 💕
Our school is Sage Oak and it’s a personalized learning program
@@homeschoolatheart Thank you!
Thank you for sharing.. may I ask what charter school you use?
It’s Sage Oak!
Hi. i am homeschooling and need some funding .. and i really really don't want to send my kids to public school .. we are currently using the good and beautiful .. i really really like it.. i didn't understand..does your charter school allow this curriculum to be used??
Unfortunately any public charter will not pay for religious materials. My charter will not buy anything from The Good and the Beautiful, but I’ve heard that some will buy some select materials from them
@@homeschoolatheart thank u
Homeschool is so expensive your right and it’s so ridiculous but I just hope ya have a good year of homeschooling
Thank you!
We're with Sky Mountain, so we meet with our teacher every 20 days as well. So far, so good. We just started.
Hello. How is it going? I just enrolled my son at charter
School
How about testing?do they get tested sometime during the school year ?and how ?
The school does online testing twice a year to check the student’s progress! The test they use is called Iready and it feels like a game!
I wonder is the charter the same in SC,
I’m not sure!
I don’t understand how seasoned homeschoolers swear you can homeschool on a dime Lol Especially with multiple children! I’ve been in this journey since Covid hit and schools began adding gender discussions into the curriculum. But I feel stuck! Homeschool pods are expensive!! Not to mention fancy extracurricular activities such as sports, ballet, music lessons, field trips. I just haven’t been able to do any of that in these few years. So I’m stressing out about the dilema of joining a charter. I’m afraid of the extra work load my kids will have, I’m scared to lose the freedom but I also feel the need of some accountability since my son is entering 8th grade and soon to be a high schooler. I think he needs more structure and socializing. My 5 year old is also begging me to go to school. Neither of them are vaccinated so with that, and the climate in public schools, homeschooling is my only option
Try a charter school and if you don't like it, you can always pull your kids out. You can opt out of sex education as well. The instructional funds the charter school gives you is amazing and you can put your kids in elective classes with those funds. That's a wonderful way to socialize your kids.
Hello I been struggling here two since last year I cannot find a school with Institutional funds i just send my kids back in person this past February and they get sick often I moved cities also my daughter is behind reading and school do nothing to help her she has been in person in school for a year in total she’s 8 now and everything with instructional teacher was singing and abc little kids stuff for 2 years since the pandemic now that I send her guess what she’s stuck and they do nothing but she cannot pass the test so I’m order for me to homeschool her I will need the funding to pay for a tutor or a teacher i am a mom of 4under 8 my other 2 learn to read already so I’ll love any help you can share iam in the inland empire in CAlifornia but I find nothing or probably don’t know the exact words of how to do my research any help will be very appreciated and thanks for sharing
The school I’m using is called Sage Oak! They have both a full homeschool program (that’s what we use) and one that would have a person teaching your child online, so that could be helpful! You can go to sageoak.education to fill out an application! There are also others in the area… Sky Mountain, Gorman, Inland Leaders, Excelsior and a lot more!
Thank you. I am new to home schooling in southern california. I just applied for 2 different charters
That’s awesome! Best of luck to you and your family! ❤️
