I think another aspect of this is that if the darker areas still have somewhat fresh ink, it can be pulled towards the lighter areas. Sometimes that can be of use too.
Yeah, you are right. That's why most times, we have to experiment with new and different methods and see if the results comes out well. That way, an artist grow faster. Thanks so much for your engagements 🙂
I have been very impatient with my life lately. Thank you for reminding me the value of slowing down and enjoying the process. This video cherred me up a little. Thank you!
Wow! I have always wondered how people achieved the affect of smooth, and very nice shading with a pen. Thank you! And good job! Make sure to keep making great videos!
I've never been a fan of bold lines when working with ballpoint pens. Seeing your shading technique validates the time we students of the pen invest in our craft 👍👍 Amazing 👏👏👏
Thank you! I wanted to try something new. I usually draw digitally so i decided to challenge myself. I think i prefer drawing with a pen rather than pencil!
Nah, in art there's nothing like "better than". We all gat different choices of the materials that works best for us and in my case and many other artists, Bic Ballpoint Pen is great also.
Funny how after all my years drawing as a hobby, i keep forgetting this fundamental discipiline when it comes to shading: that haste makes waste. - Good reminder to take my time shading in layers, and not just aggressively scribble back and forth in hopes of accelerating the process. Funny enough, it doesn't even take up "that" much extra time to slow down a little, it's just a bad habit of mine lol
Thanks so much for sharing your insight. You're absolutely right, haste can indeed make waste when it comes to shading. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement of creating and want to rush through the process, but taking the time to build up layers slowly and deliberately can make all the difference. It's great that you've recognized this tendency in yourself and are working to overcome it. And you're right, it doesn't have to take up a lot of extra time to slow down and be more intentional with your shading. Sometimes just being more mindful and present in the process can make a big difference. Keep practicing and thanks for watching 🙂🙂💯
You're welcome Wow,all the way from Sri Lanka. That's great. Hope you like the tutorial? If you want more tutorials relating to pen art, feel free to drop your comments. I'll gladly take them into consideration. Thanks once again for your engagements.🙂
Most artist do prefer the shading on the right side because it's more of technique, precision, depth, texture and overall constructiveness and neatness.
hi! you mention cleaning the pen tip to avoid ink blots/marks, but how often/when exactly should it be cleaned? and does the process just consist of wiping onto a towel or something else? thanks in advance!
There's a need to study your pen well. If you're using a pen that's it's ink is still full, you'll not need to clean the tip that frequently as it won't be bleeding on a regular basis. As for pen that the ink has gone down due to excessive usage, then you'll need to clean the tip more often (like every 3-5 minutes) while using it as it tends to bleed more often after some series of strokes.
For start up, a normal cardboard and sketchbook is okay. To grow and master the skill professionally, high quality papers like fbb, pelican, alabaster, stratmore and needlepoint papers are great.
Well I'm not fully into colour pencils and their techniques but you can give it a try using the techniques in this video and give a feedback about the outcome 💯
Hello. Which paper should I choose? Should it be lightly textured or ultra smooth? I've been trying but I haven't been able to achieve a smooth tone. Please reply 😭
For a smoother tone, I recommend going with the ultra-smooth paper, as it tends to minimize texture and gives a more consistent, even finish. Lightly textured paper can add some graininess, which might be affecting the smoothness you're looking for.

Well, for pencils, after using this same shading technique, then “blending” comes in to make the shade have that smooth effect.

Is there any alternative for bic pen??? Because in India it is not easily available and online prices are so High
A good alternative is Schneider Pen if it's available in India.
Do people like the left side or the right side version of shading better? Personally i loved the one on the right.
Most artist do prefer the shading on the right side because it's more of technique, precision, depth, texture and overall constructiveness and neatness.
Cool

Whats the best type of papper to use a ball pen on in making an art?
For start up, a normal cardboard and sketchbook is okay.
To grow and master the skill professionally, high quality papers like fbb, pelican, alabaster, stratmore and needlepoint papers are great.
What kind of pen is used for smooth shading.. Please give some shading techniques
Any pen with a broad tip like bic ballpoint pen.
And as for the shading techniques, I made some tutorial about it in my other videos here.
You can still turn the first circle into that second one. Your is just lighter and slower . Crisp nonetheless.
👍👍
My favorite

Hello. Which paper should I choose? Should it be lightly textured or ultra smooth? I've been trying but I haven't been able to achieve a smooth tone. Please reply 😭
Can I do it using Canson 1557 ❤
For a smoother tone, I recommend going with the ultra-smooth paper, as it tends to minimize texture and gives a more consistent, even finish. Lightly textured paper can add some graininess, which might be affecting the smoothness you're looking for.
@@hezokartuniversity thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏

BIC Original Ballpoint Pen
What pen do you use to draw?
BIC Original Ballpoint pen
What type of paper is actually used
For this particular tutorial, I used an ordinary cardboard
Thanks for this ! Anyways if I am not wrong, then is the left one a type of hatching we use in drawing? Correct me if I am wrong. ..
You're welcome 🙂
Yeah, you can use the hatching technique on the left for extremely dark background and shades in a pen work
But it has to be done with extra care in order not to ruin your work
Thank you for the quick replies! ! I would surely implement what you said!
