@@guyman2674 he would literally be invincible he’s wearing the most powerful object in the universe only limited to the wielders imagination and willpower he could’ve stopped all those people from dying or at least mitigate it
That moment you realise, Mark chose a pretty accurate superhero name. Its not his durability or strength...its his unbreakable willpower and determination.
@@Ligam3731 I was wondering why you mentioned that specific manga until I remembered one of the power systems being Haki. Literally willpower solidified as strength, armor and perception.
I wholeheartedly agree. Mark thoroughly beat a Viltrumite with 2 sentences. He took a beating that would have killed almost anyone else and still came up on top. He might not be the steongest in the outside, but within he's unbreakable, unbeatable.
And that it's too late to go back and fix his mistake because he now has a body count in the thousands. It's that moment of "I've fucked up and I realize that but there's no way I can ever un-fuck up"
Nah he just confuse between the pride of viltrumite and the love of his family. For like thousand year, he has been trained and conquored for his empire but this time He has felt the new feeling that viltrumite did not give him. Being a dad

@@Billy_Earl Right? They NAILED that crazy range of emotions going through Nolan at that point, and perfectly showed a man who's caught between two very hard choices from his POV - what he's been trained and raised to do, against what HE raised, and the love he found in that ridiculously short span of time.
Nolan’s gasp when Mark called him dad just breaks my heart. In that moment he turned back into a worried father trying to take care of his boy, only to realize that he himself was the cause of it.

@@LegendArySayain literally I had to check it out yesterday after the show and man is it brutal, got me wondering if there gonna adapt all of the comic scenes
That's the nature of being a father. Of course in this scene Nolan 100% wrong. But in general it's our job to shoulder the guilt of the hard decisions.
This scene actually made me shed a tear. Invincible feels like he's gonna die and the last thing he thought he'd ever say is basically telling his dad he loves him. Actually hit me so hard
It reminds me of castlevania when Dracula realizes he is killing his own son and all the death he caused was for n nothing. Il leave it at that since that doesn't spoil what happens leading up to or after that moment. There are 4 seasons to watch to fond out where that event happens
I don't see that as regret. That seems more like a look of confusion. As a Viltrumite he's had to kill his own kind before and thought nothing of it. Everything he's done was in service to the greater good of the Empire. But now looking at his hands covered in his son's blood for the first time he has the thought "Why doesn't this feel right?" Regret does come a second later after Mark says "Dad?" when you see him trying to force himself not to cry. The weight of his actions, and the real conflict Nolan has (good father vs loyal soldier) finally boiling to the surface.
I love the conflict in Omni-man. He’s been so brainwashed by the Viltrum empire that he genuinely has no idea what to do when he realises he actually loves his family.
I didnt watch the show or the comic but from his speech on the empire i assume he is brainwashed because the entire speech(which i saw in another video) on it to his son was full of contradicting points.
YourLocalMoron depending on how you define brainwashing. You could say anyone’s culture or anything that was forced upon them at an early age like religion politics and social views from their parents is brainwashing. I don’t disagree with that definition either

*”You dad... I’d still have you”* Best thing about Mark is despite getting owned half the time (ironically), is that he perseveres and sees the good in people. Shoutout to Robert Kirkman. Fantastic writing.
I dunno, even though the comic is amazing, this one scene goes beyond what the comic did just because of it's delivery. I really hope the final scene of the animated series manages to be just as heartwarming as the comic's ending.

I agree man. Was waiting for this scene. Just afraid they gonna screw this moment but end up. It stab my heart. They doing a great job animated it from the comic
Such a powerful line. Reminding his dad that in 500 years they'll still be together. So the people Omni kills and the things he does do have meaning, because he'll still have to look his son in the eyes.
Also, Omni man is also projecting a little by telling Mark nothing will be left of what he loves today, he is talking a little about himself. But then when Mark says those words he realizes that he DOES have something he will still have in 500 years he can call his own and he almost killed it himself.
I doubt he meant it in the same context tho. In Nolan’s case he was getting at everything mark knows and love will be gone. Not necessarily asking what Mark’s plan is.
@@BAtkins.Navarro Oh definitely not but i thought it was interesting that even though all of his one liners and such were horrible horrible things to say he still is Mark's father through and through and even his last words were one more fatherly quote
Remember when Mark tried to tell his mom no about going to school? Her response was basically this. She didn't attack with fists, she attacked with words and heart. Mark is truly a child of both his parents.
The absolute best thing about this conclusion is that it doesn't end like most superhero media. The hero isn't just suddenly able to beat the villain, not through a Macguffin, no help from others, or just plain "because they're supposed to." Mark had no chance in this fight. NObody had a chance in this fight. After seeing Nolan take a freaking GEARS OF WAR HAMMER OF DAWN, I knew Mark was destined to be ground beef. I feel like Omni-Man forgot he was Mark’s father in his rage but after calming down and hearing Mark call him dad made him realize that he was literally killing his own son.
Of course he is. Besides his time on Earth, Viltrum is how he was brought up. The questions he asks Mark are questions he himself doesn't have answers to because he was trained that Viltrum is the only way, duty above all. It's not until his son (another Viltrumite) gives him an answer, that he is able to second guess himself. Because after everything Omni-Man has put Mark through, Mark still sees him as a father. Now he has to choose between being a good soldier, and being a good father/husband.

He may be a viltrumite but deep down he couldn't bring himself to end his son's life since that's what makes him human as proof that he changed as any loving father would realizing that mark was debbie's greatest gift to him.
I think he FEARED the very human realization he suddenly had, that the kid he raised and loved and cherished was more important to him than all the worlds he could conquer. That someone could crush his worldview so thoroughly showed Nolan something he didn't think could live inside himself: guilt. And Nolan was, for the very 1st time, afraid.
I gotta say, I've watched too many "bad guy suddenly has a change of heart" scenes and I really thought I would never get emotionally affected by any such scene. But the voice acting and animation here is just... damn. Nolan's little gasp right after Mark says "Dad?" His expressions running through denial, anger, sadness, regret, and finally a painful but realistic mixture of acceptance, self-hatred, anger and shame. In that moment, a part of him tells him that he screwed up, but he can't accept that, because doing so would shatter his entire identity. Throughout this fight he makes a point of brutally demonstrating how "apart", "above" from Humanity he is, but in this one moment we see a crack in his facade. This doesn't feel right. Beating his son nearly to death, someone who still professes their love for him even as he kills them. With just a few words Mark has planted a seed of doubt in Nolan's mind, suggesting that perhaps the Viltrumites are wrong after all. Might does not make right. How can it, when Mark is so clearly right at this moment, despite being so thoroughly outmatched.
@Jack Alan From what I’ve heard, the comic absolutely is outshined by the show’s adaptation in most ways, but Amber specifically is much better in the comic than she is in the show
@Jack Alan Honestly, I wouldn’t, but her characterization falls apart when she admits to knowing the truth about Mark. She deliberately puts her own desires over other people’s lives and safety, and despite knowing Mark had to have almost died at one point, still gets upset when she gets stood up by Mark and even when he saves their lives right in front of her. She has no good reason to be as mad with Mark as she is if she really knew he was Invincible for as long as she said she did, but she does anyway and in hindsight it ends up being very selfish and outright disrespectful. She would be so much better if either A.) She expressed her disappointment with Mark better, not berating him and instead being more understanding but still upset about a lack of communication B.) She was genuinely just unaware of Mark’s identity. It’s still possible for her to be mad with mark after learning about his identity, but the writers for whatever reason wanted her to “subvert expectations” and ended up ruining the credibility she had going for her I really don’t want to hate Amber’s character, but I just can’t ignore what her knowing about Invincible does to her overall character.
That's only in our framework of morality. There is absolutely no guarantee that aliens could feel what we feel and believe in what we believe. For example, we are compassionate by nature, whereas mantis are cannibals and eat their own babies, and there is nothing wrong with that in their perspective. Something like that, but with more variation and crazier extremes, should also be true about aliens.
If you think about it, the mom saved the world. She showed Omni-man the joys of having a child. Omni-man slowly but surely changed during those 17 years.
*spoilers for comics* the rest of viltrumites show up to earth to repopulate by breeding with humans. Thragg (the viltrumite bossman) tells them to not get attached to the humans. Pretty much all the viltrumites start to settle with human families after a few years and become less evil like omni-man. there was this one viltrumite who had children with dozens of woman and he had some explaining to do all of them
0:56 That gasp from Omni-Man was a great detail. That horrified yet guilty look was so satisfying. The way his expression went from "What have I done?!" to "I did this. This is my fault."

I was struggling for days to find the best encapsulation of this scene and you nailed it. No super strength, super speed, or “enlightened” Viltrumite perspective is going to absolve Nolan of what he did to Mark - and he knows it
@@Freeman10001 The main reason why people focus on Nolan beating up his son in this scene is because that’s exactly what he feels bad for, and why he leaves Earth in the end. Nolan doesn’t care for human life, he believes humans are below him and that they’re all insignificant in the end, so of course he’s not going to feel remorse for any of that going on. But the thing that sets him off and gives him even a shred of morality is seeing his son hurt, beat down and nearly dead, and knowing that he’s the one that caused that to happen. He doesn’t want to admit it, but he grew attached to Earth in a way, and Mark, along with Debbie, is the main reason why.

Or "Yes, son?" Either of which he knew would break him. Because that would bring him full circle to the full impact of what he was trying to deny - that he was literally killing his own son, the boy he'd raised for 17 years. And those 17 years, for how small, how "insignificant" they would be in a Viltrumite's lifespan, cut him deeper than thousands of years of upbringing. It's utterly insane to him, that he was more human than Viltrumite after just 17 years.

Reminds me of the fight between Alucard and Dracula at the end of season 1 of Castlevania. Dracula finally comes to his senses that he is fighting and killing his son.
The fact that Nolan was about to cry right there over his son’s body is the best part. He wanted to, and you can tell he forced himself to leave instead because the moment he did he couldn’t pretend to be a viltrumite anymore.
He also realizes that he will never be able to fix what he's done. Slaughtering thousands of people and nearly killing your own son isn't exactly something you can just come back and apologize for.

My favorite aspect of Omni man's retreat isn't that he feels bad, it's that Mark and humanity in general managed to warp Nolan's view of life itself. Omni Man previously admitted to being happy "for a time" while on Earth. He comes from a Race that see's itself fit to claim the Galaxy and is most likely one of its strongest members. You don't become a dedicated elite soldier to represent the entire planet without a sense of pride for your accomplishments. I haven't read the comics (and I don't want to until the series is finished) but assume leaving your post in the eyes of a Viltrum is treason. Nolan's belief in his entire planet was shaken by someone of who. he originally planned to just be a power investment... What he didn't realize was it became an emotional investment, and if he truly didn't care about humanity he wouldn't have killed so many people to try and prove otherwise. Nolan is so loyal to and afraid of his own brutal, savage, Sayajin-like race that his attempts to quell his fear is denying the love he's developed for earth by preaching Viltrumite propaganda and mowing down people he claims to consider subhuman. The truth of the matter is that it's a good thing Mark turned out to be a Viltrumite. Because it takes that fearful and enraged beating he delivered to Mark in order for him to realize that the power of a Viltrumite, the thing that used to define Nolan his whole life, meant absolutely nothing to Mark (in what could possibly be his final moments.) Omniman has hardly ever needed to worry about death, and coming from a planet that decided on a whim to commit genocide on itself just to stress test the hell out of evolution, his society likely values fight or flight if they are ever against the ropes. The fact that Mark, in Nolan's eyes, is a Viltrumite fighting with the same Zeal that Nolan has for his empire is the final confirmation needed for Nolan to realize the lie he's been living. His shame in killing creatures he lived amongst and protected for decades was strong enough to cause him to leave, a planet he could easily conquer became guilt so deeply rooted his blood soaked hands, for the first time, felt like blood that shouldn't have been there.
I don't want to spoil it but let's just say once Omni Man becomes the leader of the viltrumites, they go from a Savage war-like Race to a peaceful race only using their power when their loved ones are threatened
Alla yall are jabbering about "Oh father son so sweet" but no one comments on the fact that the blood and dirt burns off omni-man as he flies through the upper atmosphere. Such great attention to detail.
to me the blood burning away and his uniform cleaning up was a symbolism of him finding redemption to his way back to being a good being again...very powerful visual technique to do that with...
I could actually feel the pain Mark felt when he said, "You Dad, I still have you." And I felt really bad for him , and when he called out for Nolan , saying "Dad" he wasn't scared , but he wanted Nolan to comfort him, making sure he would be there in 500 years, I still remember I cried when I saw that part.
I think the only reason this moment hit Nolan so much is that after all the painful things Mark was put through, Mark still acknowledge Nolan as his father, after all the relentless beat up, Mark never forgot who his father was and that hits right in the feels man
Since the beginning of the fight, I think Nolan was trying to convince himself more than Mark, and destroying everything he carred about was the only solution he thought to detach himself. He's been a Viltrumite for centuries, but a human for only a couple of years.
Nolan: WHERE IS THE PICTURE OF SPIDERMAN, MARK?!? Mark: That picture isn't good for your health so I burned it. Nolan: (Cries and flies off knowing that he will never get a good picture of Spiderman again)
I don't want to spoil anything and it was in the comics but you never know if it'll make it into the show. But debbie has a very rough patch and she says some real hurtful shit to mark along the lines of it being his fault and questioning his choice to fight back. Strong emotions can make people very irrational.
JK Simmons kills it in this role, in more ways than one.

She would be so much better if either
A.) She expressed her disappointment with Mark better, not berating him and instead being more understanding but still upset about a lack of communication
B.) She was genuinely just unaware of Mark’s identity. It’s still possible for her to be mad with mark after learning about his identity, but the writers for whatever reason wanted her to “subvert expectations” and ended up ruining the credibility she had going for her
I really don’t want to hate Amber’s character, but I just can’t ignore what her knowing about Invincible does to her overall character.
That's only in our framework of morality. There is absolutely no guarantee that aliens could feel what we feel and believe in what we believe. the whole fight Omni-man was trying to convince himself he was right
Well, he was somewhat right in some aspects. Even killing ~2000 people is nothing if you consider that 9 million people die from hunger alone... each year. So if Viltrum will solve hunger and thirst problems alone.... On the other hand, how many lives self-determination costs?.. How Viltrum taxes will affect Earth? It's not easy discussion... But discussions is not how things on Viltrum get decided. It's who the strongest... basically, Omni-Man made every effort in the Mark's persuasion he could ^^

@@ImperativeGames Oh they absolutely are right. But we can't have a show about an advanced alien race taking pity on humans and fixing our shit. That would be "fascism".
@@asddsa8203 Well, in current political climate it's risky... but also it's just hard to write. If you are writing from the point of view of the human then it's "sit back & watch" how aliens work... Where is the conflict?.. And the hero should be (pro)active.
If it's from the POV of the "progressor" then it's much easier to make it that someone from Earth is encountering primitive humanlike aliens. Still, watching how schools and powerplants are being built for year and years is boring... So, only a few books like about stuff like that.

@@golden1_1dragon12 Well, Nolan in the show is what they always wanted to convey. Yeap they always blame others and accuse everyone for their Behavior and Abusive Actions they never take responsibility for themselves

And I felt really bad for him , and when he called out for Nolan , saying "Dad" he wasn't scared , but he wanted Nolan to comfort him, making sure he would be there in 500 years, I still remember I cried when I saw that part.
The fact he tried to hold back tears, really kills it
I think the only reason this moment hit Nolan so much is that after all the painful things Mark was put through, Mark still acknowledge Nolan as his father, after all the relentless beat up, Mark never forgot who his father was and that hits right in the feels man
"I'd still have you."
That moment got me, and it got to Omniman too. Mark is just the greatest noble soul.
