    Thank you Gash, by far the most comprehesive study of this wonderful machine I've seen. You covered aspects that even Anton Paar don't address, such as which app to download for use by Homebrewer's. Much more meaningful to see it employed during a brewing session, nice one.

    Pretty cool Gash, great that Anton Paar have made a model a bit more affordable and it pretty much has the same features as the DM35 in our brewery. And.. the animation looked cool must've took some work! Cheers Mate, Mike 🍻🍻

    I've been using my EasyDens for a year now but been using a spreadsheet to calculate my ABV, so it's a bloody good job I watched this vlog. After all this time at looking on the graph in the app I didn't realise I could pull down the screen & add in the start & end values to give the ABV. What a plonker 🤔

    Brilliant video Gash. Just think...Prince Albert in a can, and Anton Paar in your home brewery. What else could one ask for? Don't worry, I'm not planning to be a stand-up comedian any time soon. Man if I had the extra money this would be so cool to have around. Thanks for doing the review. Cheers mate!

    Very cool video/system. Do you have to run every sample through a coffee filter? How much volume are you using per sample?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  2 года назад

      That is correct., you need to filter for accuracy etc and you really only need 2ml for a test, but I run a bit more through each time, I probably use 6-8ml for a test, bugger all. Cheers Jake!

      Yes I am, its out for just about every brew day. Still working fine, only change is I use a metal coffee filter now. Cheers!

    Looks like a nice piece of kit but in my honest opinion, it seems to be more hassle than just using a regular refrac for homebrewing purposes especially given the price.
    Honest question, i remember you saying that Anton Paar sent you the unit but not a paid review, would you have bought one with your own money?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  2 года назад

      I would love to buy the more expensive Anton Paar equipment, $3-4000. I couldn't afford to buy this though, if I had money to spend yes I probably would, I really like the ease of taking readings during ferment, and since I've been thinking of distilling that part is really handy too. Plus I like brewing toys, and anton paar make the best :) Cheers!

    • @bskzoo
      @bskzoo 2 года назад

      My justification for the purchase was doing small batch meads. When backsweetening it's become a lifesaver to be able to add small amounts of honey to just a little bit of fully fermented mead for bench trials. Once I find a flavor I like I can take an SG reading using just a few ml of the small sample I made and scale it up to the full batch size. It's so so nice.
      I estimate it'll pay for itself after 40 or so batches just based off of the amount of mead I'll have saved by not having to use enough to fill a cylinder for a hydrometer reading.

    For a cap on the EasyDens syringe, what about the plunger from a normal syringe? You know, the rubber part that does the sealing.
    edit: Just saw in the text portion you've linked to some.

    Cheers Gash. Looks awesome! Wonder what the difference between the two software's are (gravity for beer vs abv for spirits). Very cool piece of equipment and a great overview of how it works!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  2 года назад

      Good question! They email me and say this, its why the video got a text overlay. So there must differences, not sure what else but its probably worth looking at in the future! If you measure the alcohol content in spirits, we recommend using the Proof Meister app, because here you also have the parameter ABV @20 available, which is already temperature compensated.

    As long as you're being precise, you may as well drip the condensed water that's formed on the underside of the foil back into the wort. Otherwise, it's almost the same as if you hadn't covered the measuring cup.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@novidtoshow Yeah I was joking, I'm not that worried to be honest, just a home brewer at the moment, one drop is what 0.05ml of water out of probably 150ml sample usually, that one looked over 250ml.. but I do make a point of it because I see a lot of people taking maybe a 10ml sample out and letting it cool uncovered on the bench for a refrac reading and that's where they do run it bigger discrepancies. Mine all goes quick in reality when not recording videos, small sample out straight through a filter and I need just 5ml or so in the syringe and it cools in that, can't go anywhere then! Cheers!

    I noticed the amd cup you have there, I'm guessing that you use computers as you make RUclips videos but other than that are you into computers and gaming? I'm personally an nvidia & intel man myself but my laptop has amd cpu & graphics, im gonna be building an new desktop soon, i9 CPU, 3080 ti graphics, DDR5, etc etc, should be awesome. I used to make videos a bit on RUclips, one on my other channel reached 13k views, it was a review on my old computer monitor, I was alot younger then and had more energy 🤣

      I was always PC but I made a computer about 2 years ago during the start of covid and AMD was just way in front, cost and quality. Intel dropped the ball. I used to write computer games way back in the 80s, gave up for along time, but went and did a diploma in Video game making etc a few years back, its just a hobby, but I'd love to work in it, I some times look at joining some teams and feel weird Im old enough to be their dads hahaha one day I will though! Cheers!

    Can it do ABV of beer like the whisky?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  2 года назад +1

      No, its very difficult, refracs tell the difference between 2 things. alcohol and water or sugars and water, but if you try to measure 3 things Water, sugar and alcohol it cant distinguish, you find any that does, not at least at this price, very big dollars. Cheers! Of course if you knew the OG/SG yes you can.

    To have to pay a yearly subscription for the app to fully use the product you just bought and paid a pretty penny for is just down right morally corrupt. Thus company need to have a good hard look at itself.
    Even tho I can afford one certainly will not be purchasing one anytime soon simply for this fact.

I think maybe you should discuss this with Anton Paar, I have no control over it at all. Thanks for your kind words, have a great weekend mate, I hope you feel better about things after an ale or two :) Cheers!
