thanks you for sharing and very nice performance , let me ask you this : is possible to connect the op-1 directly into the beatstep using usb-midi cable or need another usb-midi interface ?
Hi, I'm planning to trade my yamaha su 700 for a beatstep pro and also a padkontrol. The reason is I want more control of my OP-1 (muting drum parts, extending patterns). I was wondering if it is possible to put the drum kits into the OP-1 and sequence them with the beatstep pro? Thanks.
Hey there, I have a Beatstep, could you break down how your using. And integrating with the instrument here? I can't seem to get a hold of using my Beatstep better
Thanks for the demo, i recently bought an op1, and i want to use it with my arturia keyboard. I would like to know if you just use the Kenton Midi to send the midi signals from the beatstep to the op1, and how do you get the sound that is comming out of the op1 into the mac or pc ? do you use another sound interface different than the Kenton Midi for that ?
Think I just had the OP-1 plugged via USB into the computer (Ableton Live) and the Beatstep plugged into computer too. Then beatstep sequencing the OP-1 via Ableton Live midi in/out
A while ago now but I think I was using the Beatstep into Ableton Live with the OP-1 controlled via USB. I did used to have an OPLab and Kenton Midi USB Host but I don't think either were used in this video.
The drums and the NASA sample is coming from a laptop out of shot. I'm recording the jam in Ableton Live with the OP-1 feeding into a channel. The only sounds from the OP-1 is the synth noise. can't remember whether the delay fx was added in the OP-1 or in the ableton track for it. The beatstep is sequencing the op-1 synth. Hope that helps.
+space travel made easy Ok, I understand it better. Would it be possible to have for example the nasa sound played as samples from the op-1 sequencer with the stereo delay too?
You can only have one thing being played at a time on the op-1. It would either be a synth, sampler or drum machine. This is both for being triggered from external midi or if yuo are playing manually. The OP-1 has 4 tracks of Tape that could be playing a drum track and a nasa track in the background - either as a full track recording or as a short loop that repeats
Out of sight I have a laptop running Ableton Live that I am using to trigger the drum scenes. The Beatstep is connected via USB to the laptop and it is getting it's timing from the Midi Clock of Ableton Live. Also when I start/stop Ableton Live the Beatstep (and OP-1) will stop too. The Midi-Out from the Beatstep is then going to the OP-1 via a Kenton Midi USB Host so the OP_1 - this also means that the OP-1 clock will sync to Ableton Live too. Hope that helps!
Bought the korg sq1 but that is going to replaced with the beatstep. Thanks. A simple but effective demo. Check my own experiments out if you get the chance….
oscillated You might want to check out the Beatstep Pro that is about to be released (or may already be available) - it allows for control over two or three things at once with the ability to save all songs created. Also you get to SEE the notes being played when you turn the knobs - that's one of the drawbacks of the original Beatstep - you can't see on the hardware what notes are being played.
Yeah, I'd been checking out the sq1 but realised it was a bit limited. The Beatstep Pro seems to be able to do a lot more. Well worth the price to be able to sequence a few synths or toys at a time without the need for a computer.
A great chilled little vibe going on. Enjoying the sequence.
That was awesome! Super chill and subtle but hypnotic...
Amazing man congrats loved every second never stop making music :)
Very nice "Beatstep" and nice sounds! :D
Really nice, great simple combo for noize making
NICE!
Oh... I think we will see a lot of videos with the beatstep :D
Definitely! Going to get it hooked up to a Korg Volca Bass next ;)
Nice 'spacey' sound!

you program the beastep channel midi around the artunia soft ?
Cool track! Curious, could this have been made with only the Op-1 using the sequencers?
so the beatstep pro will also control the op-01 ?

All the beatstep is doing here is sequencing the OP-1.

Could you use the beatstep to sync the op1 to other gear?
hi nice vid - can you explain how you are getting midi into the op-1 from the Beat step? cheers

Can you plug straight into Beatstep or do you need a midi interface in between ?
yeah youll need something like OP-Lab via computer.
Thanks for the quick reply- what about a 1to1 Midi iConnect interface?
great video, btw can I hear a gaming sound coming from this mix?
endfm what do you mean by a gaming sound? the spoken word and other sounds that have the delay is some NASA recordings. Is that what you mean?
space travel made easy yeah that's what I mean, just sounded very familiar, thanks for the reply!
which sounds come from the op1? I mean, is it multitimbral or are you mixing one sequencer with the op1 tape machine?

how is the midi connected exactly?

thanks mate...awesome demo
He really does not need the arturia, the op-1 can do all of that, and more. Am I right?
Yeah - you can sequence on the OP-1 but it can be a bit fiddly whereas the beatstep has big buttons that are hard to miss ;)
Can you briefly describe how do you set the op1 for it to be controlled by the external sequencer ?
thanks !
+dekal boy see comment below from Michael Frost - I let him know how it was all hooked up. Check OP-1 manual for info about how to change midi-in

I might save my pennies and go for that option. It certainly looks like a much better bet than the sq1.

you aren't doing anything with the op1...
The Beatstep is sequencing the OP-1. Twisting the green knob is tweaking the sound.
