      Hey Andy. It is such a good razor and it's rather a shame they have stopped production; some do turn up, here and there though. I would have liked to have seen WS make an up-market version of this rather than their new butterfly safety razor. I guess they didn't realise what a great razor this was.

    • @andyc3943
      @andyc3943 Год назад

      Absolutely, it was such an easy razor as a starter and got me on my way to traditional shaving, then on to a murkur 34C stubby which I still have, then onto straight razors. Sad it is no longer made, the lowest cost best shave I had as a newby!

    the good ol' wilkinson sword classic and a tube of palmolive, a match made in heaven for beginners... the palmolive cream is simply phenomenal, they go for 85 cents a tube in our grocery stores and pharmacies here in germany

      I think there is something wrong with that window. Is it normal to hear the birds through double glazing? Palmolive is a lovely soap, isn't it? It's one that only comes out now and again but I do enjoy it. My first shave stick was Palmolive, that I squashed into a bowl. At the time I only had that or the Body shop soap. Fully agreeing on the Wilkinson Sword Classic being a great razor for beginners. One of it's main strengths IMO are it's ergonomics. Being it's balance and the deep cut outs in the plastic handle. Best regards from the Netherlands.

    Well, I followed your excellent review and purchased one of these for my first ever DE shave.
    I'm very glad to say it was a success. Much better than the Quattro razor I had been using.
    Though I have to perfect the technique, I was pleased that I did not cut myself or experience any rash or burns. I just need to gain confidence so as to achieve a closer shave in some areas.

    Hi Mark... enjoyed the (cheap) shave video. Up until now a cheap plastic razor always meant the disposable kind to me. Yes... I did use the disposables in my younger days with very mixed results as I recall. Your review of the plastic Wilkinson has peaked my interest in that razor. For the price it maybe fun to give it a go. If nothing else it would make a great light weight travel razor that can clearly provide a good shave outside the den. I am curious about how the razor would perform with one of your Voskhod blades. As to the tube of Palmolive cream... your use of the word slickness so often has put that on my radar as well. All the best and have a great weekend.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  6 лет назад

      Oh I remember those old plastic disposables, Paul; the BIC disposable was a shocker! The Palmolive is the slickest soap I've ever used! I've shaved a few more times with the Classic and I really like it. It is a great shave, of course, with a Voskhod it would be even better 😉 I'll be trying it out but it may well become my go to razor. Cheers buddy.

    Hi Mark! What a great surprise to bump into your video. I am glad you enjoyed the products and that they provided you a great shave! One thing I learned from Nick Shaves is to we your hand and rub it onto some alum stone, so you will get a great grip even with wet hands/handle. I also found this razor to be not that mild, and yes a great travel razor that does not require do much care and can get you through TSA. I used to have some redness due to the WS blade in the past (but it could have been due to my technique back then). Palmolive creates a huge load of lather with a small bit, and very slick! Let me know if you want some more products for you or to pass around! Cheers!

    That particular version of Wilkinson Sword blades is the only one I can actually walk into a store and buy off the shelf and in this location in only one store. That said, they are about $1.30 for a 5 pack. Back in the day when I only had one DE razor I was of the opinion they were harsh but after I acquired my "collection" I've discovered they are quite exceptional in most of my razors. I have this razor it was a barging 50p in boots chemist with blades 5!
    I have one problem I put loads of shaving gel on (turns to cream) but even though I don’t , or hardly feel it! I keep cutting my face no matter what lol 🤷🏻‍♂️🪒🤦🏻‍♂️ Any advice as I only cut myself a lot with this type of razor ?? first time I have used one was this year and I am 37 haha.

      Hello. 50 pence is a great price! In the Sunday sit downs, play list there are, if I remember rightly, a couple of videos on transitioning to a safety razor. Generally, keeping light pressure and not pushing on the razor and trying to avoid curving motions, might help. Good luck.

    I got one of these last Thursday from my local Boots store and I'm really liking DE shaving even after only my second shave with it today. Always wanted to try DE but always been scared incase I ripped my face to shreds but I've not cut myself anymore than with a modern cartridge razor, but I found the shave from the DE to be better than any cartridge razor. I've been wet shaving with cartridge razors for nearly a decade now but I think DE is the way I'll go into the future, and blades cost a fraction of what cartridges cost too, so a DE razor not only gives a closer more comfortable shave but is also cheaper to use. I have some Nivea shave gel and it lathers fairly well but next time I'm gonna try Palmolive soap, also ordered a pack of Feather Hi-stainless platinum blades to try too. Works out at 35p per blade compared to around £3.50 per cartridge on cartridge razors. Great video 👍

      Hey Chris. You picked a great razor to start your journey; it's so cheap and yet a good shave. You'll find there are so many different razor blades to try out and that is part of the enjoyment. Some you'll like better than others and there is so much variety, that you just don't get with cartridge blades. There are plenty of razors out there for you to try too 😉
      Thanks for getting in touch. Good luck. 👍

    That Palmolive cream creates a quite thick lather. Y can compete with Cris fm near Perth in this respect. He also lathers pretty amazing. Cheers Achim+

      Oh no, Cris is the King. He has such a well thought out routine, I'm a bit more hit and miss. 😃

    • @achimkohlhage1328
      @achimkohlhage1328 6 лет назад +1

      We all hit n miss sometimes, even Cris. What he does is taking more time, much more... In fact I did flw yr way to bloom MWF for 12h, it works n with more time by using a horsehair brush, I created a thick thick lather. 'But' it takes lots of time, effort, which younger lads, still working, simply do not have. My personal opinion MWF is old, represents history, does its job, but meantime one finds btr ones out there. Likely the time for em to come up with a modern MWF version...? Cheerio, Achim fm Singapore+

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  6 лет назад

      Yeah, I'd agree with that Achim. MWF is an old fashioned soap and I think a younger shaver is less likely to buy that than something else especially if they have to soak it and take time building a lather. A more modern MWF range - that would be good 👍😃 We should write them a letter.

      MWF, indeed, we should. I'm trying to find their contact...

      Years. It's a plastic polymer and I still have mine. So long as you take car when unscrewing the head it will last forever!

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  6 лет назад

      Hi Jeremy, thank you very much. It's kind of you to say so. I haven't used a Palmolive soap stick for a long time. It was one of the first sticks I tried when I got into DE shaving. For some reason it seems to have fallen off my radar. I do remember it being a very slick soap and, in fact, I squashed it into a shaving bowl and used it like a regular soap. Is it as slick as the tube? In all honestly, it was so long ago I can't say but it is slick. I might have to get another one 🙂

      @@FriendshipShaving Hey there. I'm almost a year late to this comment, but I figured you'd appreciate the following information if you haven't already heard: I think the Palmolive shaving stick has been discontinued.

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Julian, thank you for that information. I had heard the news but haven't got around to buying a few sticks, yet. It was one of the first soaps I used and it was brilliant. I found the soap stick to be better than the tube of cream. Cheers.

    Update got the Wilkinson Sword Classic Razor and OMG I had a great blade in it and could not get a BBS or acceptable shave to save my life . I hate level 2 aggression razors like this and when you say you got a fantastic shave Mark, wow hard for me to imagine any where near "fantastic" Kit

    • @FriendshipShaving
      @FriendshipShaving  6 лет назад

      What? I can't believe it, Kit. That is so strange because I keep going back to mine and I do find it an absolutely amazing shave. I used it yesterday, in fact and it amazes me every time I do use it. It might surprise you, but I think this is my favourite. I'm sorry you had that experience and I guess this really proves the old adage YMMV. I'm genuinely surprised that your shave was so negative.

    This razor is a perfect candidate for converting to a devette, as its very easy to cut the guards off.
    Then the razor gives you a amazing close shave with just one pass.

I have just been loaned a Wilkinson Sword Sticky, thank you. I mention it in tomorrow's video and will use it next week. It's not sticky! I must admit I'm looking forward to using it. Yes, I used like the Krypton Factor growing up.
      Was funny that with the blade, haha.
      Tidy re-WS Sticky loan, found it goes a bit tacky rather than sticky when you're hands /fingers are wet, and it gives a great shave and is a fantastic design, so glad I got one at a good price and basically NOS.
      I look forward to watching and hearing your thoughts, when you try it.
      All the best 😉
