    What a joke. Having been a Traffic Patrol Officer for a number of years as an Advance Driver with the London Met Police. They should be putting the suspect under pressure not allowing him to dictate the process. The object is to stop a pursuit ASAP. In the UK we have a procedure that the lead driver is the one to take the decisions. We have a procedure called TPAC (Tactical Pursuit And Containment) using 3 vehicles, One in front, one on the off-side and one in the rear boxing the vehicle in and then reducing speed until the suspect vehicle is brought to a stop. Always we try to put our vehicle nearside wing against the driver door stopping the driver getting out of the vehicle.

    • @joanies6778
      @joanies6778 4 месяца назад +3

      If they believe the suspect is armed, that scenario is less likely. I just watched another chase where the driver kept shooting at police in a high-speed chase. This would be an easier shot... I agree that played a huge role in their decisions.

    California cops love making their chases a movie of the week. Arkansas ends their chases in about a block and a half. While that is excessive, you'd think Cali could be somewhere in between. Other states get the vehicle stopped and get the bad guys out of the car single handedly in many cases. California, "Calling every cop in the state,we need a thousand man stand off for four hours "

    Seems to me that law enforcement in CA needs some help when it comes to car chases. Rather than playing pied piper, having ten or more cars following, why not peel some squads off and anticipate his moves. Getting some vehicles on city streets in front of him would give them far more options to end the chase.

    • @jin8684

First unit follows the suspect, 2nd communicates with intel and provides backup, 3rd is backup, and any more tends to be emergency backup, and can offer support with other things, like keeping the public away, and if the suspect causes an accident and jeeps going, they can break off and help the injured, and can be available to switch out with the 1st, 2nd or 3rds if necessary

      Pitting a suspect into pedestrians is not an option. These officers have to take the public into consideration. Besides, anyone running from the police is by default not in the right state of mind, and could injure the public if they get pressured. Police have seen every situation in the past, and they have to make sure that they dont escalate any more than they have to. I would love to see improvements on the aggressiveness, but they ha e to be smart about it. Highways could be rigged with red and blue flashers whenever pursuits transition to them for example, that way motorists will know there is danger amongst tgem, so then they will condense themselves to one side, i would love to see that. Retrofitting cruisers with bumper grapplers and bumper spike strips are another wish

    The CHP did its job as usual and the street cops blew it as usual. They could've had spike strips along the entire width of the street he had stopped on earlier. Great job of the reporter and anchor for questioning it.

And besides, the officers dont have the advantage that we have when we watch these chases. They're down on the ground. If they had a live birds eye view of what is in front of them, they might see more opportunities, but thats something they'll have to figure out.

    Compared with Arkansas pursuits, the ones in California look more like police V.I.P. escorts. The cops looked terrified when the vehicle stopped ; so many cops with drawn guns, standing far back, but no guts. Plus, many think a car door is bullet proof ; amazing. They should have brought their sleepings bags and see what happens next day. Look how many of the fearless police back up as the crims backs towards them with his happy hands in the air. Fiasco.

    San Bernardino County is keeping the chase? Since they started the video EVERY unit shown has been CHP.
    They have a distinct vehicle, and a distinct lightbar pattern. You would think need people that see those lights every single day can tell a CHP unit.
