The egg shaped thing is a sock darning tool. It would hold the thread at particular shape while the second one was sewn at cross to the first. This was done at a time when not everyone had access to a store.

More like... When people didn't automatically throw away everything. If your mom/aunt/grandmother knitted you a pair of socks, which was MOST people, you damned sure took care of them and darned them if they got a hole.

Who in their right mind picks up an explosive? It doesn't matter what kind of explosive, you've read the warning. You don't know what it is, call the police for assistance, they'd rather be called for nothing, rather than receiving a call after it has gone off! I've never heard of these (I'm in the UK), so I'd be out of the building asap.
If you are going where this person is going, maybe they really should know what it is and what it is used for.
Sometimes, "everyone just knew" what certain things were so they didn't feel the need to label them or give instructions 🤷♀️

Even the lego kids lose their balloons. Actually, it IS!!! I literally bought one (many years ago) for a neighbor who kept sticking random (dangerously sharp) items in his ears to clean them bc that habit was making him have hearing problems by jamming the wax further in.
