I remember that wonderful match where Maria played Serena and won, at age 17. Maria was fearless, her play impeccable, so fluid!
Jimmy Connors is a fighter... he told her what she didn't want to hear....I love Sharapova, but her money and ego has got the best of her.
Connors probably wanted her to really work and she did not like it.
connors expected her to practice and become the best, instead of being a walking advertisement. so she fired him.
She then went on to win a career slam (one of few female tennis players to achieve that) and an Olympic medal. Despite her age, she is still practicing and as ambitious as she was when she was 17. What's Connors up to these days?....

@@rickcastellon9090 Yeah, and still one of the most disliked former tour players in existence. His 109 career titles are meaningless when Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal have nearly 3 times as many slams as he does.
Connors is the greatest fighter ever to play tennis. He had a unique and super entertaining style that is now defunct, but he was spectacular at it. Almost like a highly effective samurai in the age of the machine gun. His flat "in your face" tennis ball striking style memorized me. Taking the ball so early. While he will always be the greatest to me. I'm not sure his unique tennis style applies to todays game, but my God there was no better entertainer on the court ever. We will never see a player like him again.
@@cormacoreilly7120 Connors was a great all Court player. His game Translates to any era. He did a good job with Andy Roddick, and would have done a good job with Sharapova. Connors was one of the first to take the ball early, and now you see everyone doing it. His style was revolutionary.

I grew up watching Jimbo.... he's a straight shooter when it comes to tennis.. Maria is too rich and too sensitive for his style.

I think Maria is a good player, not a great player. If WTA doesn't fix her draw to play easy opponents, she would be beaten in the second/third round easily if she had Serena's draw. WTA is looking at Maria for their poster girl but she is not winning titles and slams lately. These weak draws has made her weaker and she is having a rough time competing with girls like Sloane and Lauren. Jimmy knows this her weakness and was sent there to help her face it and Maria is in denial.

some things that we do are not rational. I remember Philippoussis, Agassi, and others which i consider clever, nice or somehow interesting. But all i remember about Serena is her inhuman look.

I take it your not a fan! apparently steroid abuse does enlarge the skull somewhat, this was the allegation made against barry bonds, Christine "i'm too dumb to remember my dope tests" ohurughu also looks to have an enlarged skull some may suggest, but as for looking like a goat.... I don't mind the girl but acknowledge sharapova is a very attractive woman so maybe the comparison is not fair. but both are tennis players and would probably prefer to be judged on that and not how they look..

WTA is doing whatever it takes to keep Maria at the top. they fix her matches to get easy players and she still can't pull off the big one, final. Jimmy was there hope until Sloane beat her in the first round. Maria might be the highest sponsor player but she has never been able to beat opponents they put in Serena's path and she has won 9 titles including 2 slams in2013. Maria was breaded for WTA and she has failed them.

what ego. i actually think she's anything but someone with a bloated-ego. she's noticeably terribly insecure about her tennis actually and socially uneasy too. i think Jimmy is just too ott and doesn't have the sensibility to understand her, they're polar opposites. she needs someone with more patience that can talk her insecurities away.
Maria's thick mustache, flat chest & boyish figure could means she's taking steroids? Steroids make women hairy & flat chested. Maria's flabby & too lazy to properly get fit. I can certainly see her hitting the drug cabinet to take the easy route. Seriously women's tennis is a clean sport. Serena is tested more than any other. Most tennis players could use a workout. They're not ultra fit or ripped like swimmers & track athletes who work really, really hard & are pure athletes.

If you take McEnroe, if there is a reason for him to engage with you he has poetry and charm even if its negative sometimes - same with Federer and most normal people. But Connors is awkward. Not an engaging communicator. Uncomfortable to be around

Serena is synonymous with tennis. Her feats on the court have been televised, written about in newspapers & magazines,broadcast on radio, internet & TV sports shows for well over a decade. Off the court she's seen at Hollywood parties, fashion events, commercials, PSA's,televised & publicized charity galas. She's seen with many famous celebrities. Serena Williams has been famous far longer than Sharapova & is a tennis legend & icon. You're deluded Sharapova isn't more famous than Serena.
On reflecting, Jimmy Conners compared to Sven would not have worked. Amoung other attributes Sven importantly brings energy and boisterous, vocal match time support.

She's an athlete, athletes age faster because they metabolise at an extremely fast rate. Metabolism causes cells to divide quicker and each time a cell divides, the quality of the cells produced is also inferior. Having a fast metabolism in general is okay, but on a competitively athletic level, you will age faster.

This cardioprotector was legal in WADA for certain period of time. That means it could be used by athletes in 80s-90s-20s easily because It is not a hormone.
