Thanks a lot for the shout out Jason, very much appreciated thanks. Great video and a lovely crop. Interesting feedback on the soil types and the yields, worth remembering. I love sweet potato harvests. I did my best year this year. I got 4 gallons. You are right the lighter the consistency of your soil the better, that and sunlight. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! And four gallons is great! That's a good haul! Will you have some delicious recipes from them? Cheers, Colleen and J
Nice thumbnail pic. Mel’s mix is a great growing medium. I grew Jersey white for the first time this year in grow bags. Im guessing they are a longer tuber because they had some crazy shapes. 😂
Cool and thanks !! It was our first year and it was great to get a few good ones. Have to have a look at Jersey Whites !! Have a great Thanksgiving brother !! Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱🤞👍🤜🤛🇺🇸🦃🦃🦃
A fabulous harvest of sweet potatoes 🍠 must be the hot days and dry weather. It’s super cold here the last few nights but sunny 🌞 today so good to get out and clear up some jobs. Hope you all having a fab fall so far 🥰, stay safe kiddos, Ali 🇨🇦🥰🇺🇸 Any news on the property?
Totally Ali, the weather is a huge factor. Feeling like winter here finally, we had an amazing run !! It's a bit challenging with health issues but we're still looking for properties. Just need to be patient which isn't my strong suit 🤣 Have a great week and get out there !! Cheers the kiddos 🌱🤞👍😊🇨🇦🇺🇸🦃
Sweeet! My sweet potato tips are all to do with eating them. Bake them, then refrigerate overnight. That turns the sweet potato into a resistant starch that is so good for your gut. Once cooked and refrigerated, you can use it in any recipe. We like to use a sweet potato like a piece of bread and do an egg in the nest for brunch. Alternatively, look up the recipe "melting sweet potatoes" when you want something special. You could cook the sweet potatoes totally ahead of time, then refrigerate, reheat and serve or just partly cook them, refrigerate, then finish them off in the hot oven the next day. Mmmm! ~ Sandra
I copied this and sent it to Julie, Colleen's Momma:))) Sounds super yummy !! I like the science behind gut biome too !! Finally feeling like winter out here Sandra :))) Getting a Xmas tree very soon yayayaya!! Have a great week!! Cheers J&C 🌱🤞😊😊😊😊
Will you go to a Christmas tree farm? I used to love doing that as a kid. My father used to pick the "Charlie Brown tree," but then pick up a lot of waste branches on the ground and drill them into the little tree trunk to fill it out. ~ Sandra
Hi Jason & Colleen, Hope you guys are well. WoW! what an awesome harvest of sweet potatoes, I would dearly love to grow them here but never had any luck, , I shall check that video out . Speaking of wet it's just non stop rain at present & the garden is like a mud bath, really depressing at the moment.
I just a fellow showing his allotment over there. It was literally underwater, Ian!! Crazy !! Yes that video is really informative and Mike is an impressive grower and great guy. I learned a ton from him !! Cheers and good luck! Jason and Colleen 🌱🤞👍🤜🤛
Those are some of our favorites. We also have purple skinned ones with white flesh. They are really good. Have you ever had sweet potato pie? You could use the purple ones to make a sweet potato pie. It's a bit like pumpkin pie. Cheers, Colleen & J
The biggest tubers I have ever gotten is when I would grow them the Ruth Stout method, unfortunately the voles got most of them, lol. Seeing that I can no longer do Ruth Stout, because of the jumping worms, to get the big tubers you need very loose soil, almost like growing carrots in. Plan on doing some sweet potatoes in grow bags along that south facing fence next year. Probably will do a Ruth Stout pouch. Fantastic results for the 1st time, very impressive. Hope you all have a warm and loving Thanksgiving! Stay Well!!!!
@@clivesconundrumgarden Hi Jason the temperature on the leaf mould was cold😲 not even in the blue steady section of the thermometer. I was expecting it to be hotter but I don't think it was wet enough so I watered it again but slow and steady wins the race 😅👍❤️🤠💩
@nickthegardener.1120 Well, that's perfect for leaf mold !! I wish we could have bins to make compost and well everything lol !! I do have a "sneaky" compost going atm shhhhhhh 🤣🤜🤛

Awesome, Rebecca!! We're trying a few recipes but I totally agree, simple is great !! Hope you and your family are having a great Thanksgiving week !! Cheers J&C 🌱🤞🤜🤛😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Really happy to see you had such a good crop! I had a hard time finding large bags of perlite this year so I had to experiment with alternatives when I filled my containers. I added vermiculite to my compost/peat mix in a few containers and sand in others. I seemed to get better results from the containers that had sand than with the vermiculite but it wasn't a huge difference. It was my first year trying to grow Stokes sweet potatoes and I didn't really know what to expect. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Awesome, Randy, and yes, we're stoked !! I think Vermiculite tends to bind and hold water where sand, Perlite and peat do the opposite. I bet cha leaf mold would be a fantastic addition aswell !!! Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome week!! Cheers J&C 🌱🤞👍🤜🤛
@@clivesconundrumgarden I think so too! I went a bit overboard on hoarding leaves last fall but they hadn't broken down enough for this past spring. Hopefully by next spring I'll have enough leaf mold to use in the larger containers that I use for sweet potatoes. Every year I hoard leaves and say I'm going to let them sit but I always end up using most of them in compost or as mulch.
@Randy_Smith lol, I'm totally the sane !! No leaves left last spring from the previous fall lol. We hoping to get a ton this week, run em over with the lawnmower and try to compost them with some LAB 🤞🤞🤞🤞 Cheers

Mine grew best in a 50/50 mix of perlite and peat moss. Nice to experiment with. Remember to cure the sweet potatoes for at least 3 weeks in proper storage in order for the starches in them to convert to sugar. They will taste much better. Don't forget to use an air fryer for sweet potato fries. Christmas dinner with these will be marvelous.
Yumm, that sounds delicious Tom !! And that makes a ton of sense using Perlite. We definitely saw a difference in the different soils!! Have a great Thanksgiving!! Cheers J&C 🌱🤞👍🤜🤛🇺🇸
You got some nice ones. Certainly better than any I have ever grown. I'm really thinking that sweet potatoes like a very loose soil mix. I will definitely be adding some sand my sweet potato mix next year and go for a loose and airy texture. Thanks for the channel shout out.
