Thank you for sharing! It really touched my heart! I’ve been learning to weave like my ancestors in from Sweden. I lived near the Navajo reservation for 30 years and I’m grateful for the weaving techniques my shimásání taught me there.
Miigwech for this. Shared with my colleagues at work. While watching this video, I realized that there is such a strong tie between the medicine in these blankets and their value as trade materials. Not simply consumer goods, the trade created good economic benefit to the weavers, the gifter, and the recipient. This is a foundational piece of a strong reciprocal economy which has thrived since time immemorial in these lands. My heart broke open with joy learning of these medicines and the way that they can bring healing to those lost and traumatized by residential and boarding schools. My grandfather was born in Sedro Wooley and lived a good portion of his life up and down the I5 corridor. I often wonder about his contact and connection to Coast Salish people. Chi miigwech.
