Hey Scotty, I have a newish Chevy Sonic and my wife has put a decent amount of miles on it so far. We didn't pay much for it because we traded in and it had some dents the previous owner made which we got out with boiling water. We got the car with only 16000 miles, it hasn't been a long time of course but we have yet to have a problem. Keep up the great videos also gm aren't the only cheap cars lol
Hey Scotty I have a 2007 BMW X5 with a 3.0 n52 what are the common issues and what can I do to keep it from braking l(what should I change) it’s got 75,000 miles
I do remember reading a Car and Driver or may have been a Road and Track about the GM engineers complaining that they know how to design a good car but the pencile pushers would not let them because of costs.
Happy for scott here, i remember following his videos when he had 200,000 subs you deserve all the blessings Scott thanks again for keeping this channel alive, best car mechanic ive ever seen
I think it depends on the engine for reliability of the Cruze. Some are alright but others are terrible. Either way, i would never buy a Holden car in the first place.
I had a 2012 Chevy Cruze 1.4 Turbo and it was ALWAYS breaking down or having a recall fixed! If i were you i'd get a Cruze with the 1.8 Ecotec.. much much better reliability wise and cheaper to maintain too.
@@punker4Real One of my Dads coworkers neighbor bought a new truck and he used to go over and fill the tank late at night after about 3 weeks he asked him what kind of fuel mileage it was getting, the guy said it was unbelievable, he continued topping off the guys tank for a couple weeks then stopped, his mileage went from incredible to about 12 and He was so pissed off he took it to the Dealer.
Guess I got lucky with my 98 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Had it for about two years now and it only had 78,303 miles when I first got it. It's got around 104,000 miles now. Not too much work was needed after the original investment. Parts aren't too bad in price, but to be fair my previous car was an 06 Cadillac CTS.
@@pontiacGXPfan yup, the holden commodore, known as the Chevy SS over in the states. Such a great V8 sedan when it was a thing! My dad has a 1988 holden commodore vacationer. Now that holden has stop where I am, it's going to be a collectable.
My father drove a 1997 Grand Prix. Put over 500,000 clicks on it. He took care of the car and did regular maintenance. Those Grand Prixs were excellent cars.
You are joking right? They were garbage. 2000 on up, ignition lock issues where u couldn't get the key out, rusting rockers, oil mixing with coolant. I could go on and on. Pure rubbish
I had a 2000 Corolla that had worn piston rings and consumed 1 quart of oil every 650 miles. Engine as done at 200,000 clicks. It wasn't a bad car, but it wasn't bullet proof as some Toyota fans have you believe. My dad's Grand Prix was a much better car.
must have had that fantastic 3800 series II v6 perhaps it was a GTP with the supercharged version. they were a great engine...... but i owned two of these cars and they do have really bad rust issues in the northern states. you must have lived down south a 3800 v6 will long outlast any import if you do basic maintenance
Impala's are well built. I have a 2015 model and so far so good at 66,000. I get alot of compliments (uber) and many of my clients (customers) believe it's a 2019. It amazes me how people will spend so much 💵 on a 🚙 but won't take care of it.
My grandfathers 03 corvette has 240k on it with the original engine/trans never rebuilt. Yea the plastic is a bit overwhelming but the car is crazy reliable
your so intelligent i can tell by your avatar troy. Maybe you'd like to put all the less intelligent people in a gas chamber or something ? Lol maybe get us fired from a job or yell at our children in public. Chase us out of a restaurant. Your so superior aren't you ?
You can ✂ your mileage in half driving aggessively. I remember I used to work with a guy who drove like a maniac and got about 100 miles a tank in the city with a Pontiac Grand Am 4cyl. Automatic. When he started driving 30mph city instead of 50mph he got about 250 miles per tank. So he slowed down after just to save 💰. And the car broke down a lot less too.
The cars for the 50, 60 and 70 didn't last that long unless you were super aggressive on maintenance. Most of them would wear out at 50K to 75K. Most of that was due to lack of maintenance. Now most cars will go 225K or more depending on maintenance. And remember cars rusted out at 3 to 5 years now it's 10 or more.
Modern cars (any brand) take alot more abuse. The large Chevy from 59 was destroyed by the modern Malibu in a crash test. People drive much harder today than they did 50 years ago. All cars are getting better.
Great point!! But repairs on a 70 vehicle were a lot cheaper than now!! Can't wait to see the tab on turbo Ford pickups!! And what the resale is after 150 k ha ha.
The truth of it - in the late 80's Ford started outsourcing most of their car parts but they kept the engine and transmission. The deal was that the parts supplier was totally responsible for any defective part. So, You have a company wanting to make, say, windshield motors but with the Ford name on them. If the motor went bad, the parts source had to pay for the replacement. Saved Ford a ton of money. General Motors went so far as to establish many, many parts builders run by GM. Their brake division was especially heinous as the unions completely controlled the brake making business, wheels, drums, shoes, pads. The poorly run brake division was partly to blame for the GM large loss of revenue.
Yeah blame it on the union guy making 80k. The CEO making turkey decisions is blameless. Dont forget to give her the $10 mil xmas bonus while your at it.
Ford did make some smart moves. Even though its not right they started building some cars in Mexico, which you know saved a bunch in labour costs. Also they sold off Land Rover and Jaguar which lost them a ton of money. Oh and not forgetting getting rid of Mercury!
My dad's old Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was an absolute tank! Dad bought it from a businessman after it was only 1 year old. (Keep in mind, the concept of Leasing didn't exist back then.)
I have a 98 Cutlass. Had it for two years and the mileage when I first got it was 78,303. Previously had an 06 Cadillac CTS. On thing I don't miss on that CTS was the assload of cash needed for parts, especially the suspension.
I had a 2004 Cavalier. There was not a single atom of luxury in it. But, it got me from A to B to C and I would've bet on it making it to D. Never had a problem with the engine or transmission or anything but the subframe which became swiss cheese in 14 yrs of NY winters.
Scotty you are a great automotive teacher in using common sense. And you are spot on on most analysis . I did my first engine when I was 15 and I have very similar experiences as you have so I can relate and respect your opinion. I grew up in the muscle car era and l just loved the mopars. They were tough and durable, in your opinion what happened ?
My 2002 Alero had problems along the way. Wheel bearings, transmission, Coolant in the oil, burned oil, ect. I've had my 2012 Mazda3i six years now and I've needed oil changes and one set of tires. Both of them I bought new from the dealer.
I had a 2004 Alero that began life as a rental car and went on forever and ever. I wasn't even that good about maintaining it. The only problem I had with it was coil packs about every 30k or so. So for me the Alero was a really good car, especially for the price. It was noisy and the body panels never fit together correctly, but the interior was solid and comfortable and while the drivetrain wasn't inspiring, it never had any serious problems. Ended up driving it for 5.5 years and put 40k miles per year on it. Not easy miles, either. Lots of city driving.
I had a 2005 Malibu Classic. My biggest issues with that car were: -The anti theft system. My God I hated that the most. Left me stranded so many times. -It began losing quite a bit of oil. No one could figure out where it was going. It had no signs of burning any oil either. Different shops told me different things. -Leaking Rack/Pinion -Transmission problems. -The brakes. The calipers would creak whenever I put my foot down. I'd need to have the slider pins regreased. I believe this caused my rotors to warp prematurely. I'm not aggressive on the brakes at all. -I had to get new brake lines after the old ones were rusted and leaking, but this was because the car was 13 years old at the time, and I live in Ohio. Road salt in the winter will rust anything. It's terrifying driving on the highway and your brake like on the dash turns on. It served its main purpose. To get me through college. I now own a 2018 Mazda. Love it. My brother is using the old Malibu for the time being and is only dealing with the oil issue and the leaking rack/pinion. At least she's still kicking...for now. A side of me wants to try to get everything fixed on it when he gives the car back, but it's really not worth it at this point.
Your choice, I'll stick to my good domestics like the Buick Park Avenue, Buick Roadmaster, Cadillac Deville, Lincoln Town Car, Lincoln Continental, Chevy Malibu Maxx SS, and Dodge Magnum.
@@Chu3505 Import cars are boring as hell, except Subaru, Porsche, Mercdes, and Volkswagen. American cars were assembled by my countryman and countrywomen. I'd rather support the USA and Canada than Japan.

Scotty, I really appreciate how you edit to keep it quick and not boring. Too many you tubers him and hum and say ah ah with big air gaps, to where I just turn it off right away. You keep it fun and on point. Thanks!
Hey Scotty don't know where you get your information, I work for Magna a company that supplies the seats for the Chevrolet Cruze in Lordstown Ohio . Over the years quality has become Tighter and Tighter, I'm proud to say we've exceeded the expectations of GM our customer . Every major component that goes in to our product must be trackable and every critical torque on Nuts and Bolts use spatial positioning sensors required by General Motors throughout the process. I'm proud to say we received supplier Awards for the quality work we do ! We received parts from many different suppliers contracted by General Motors, it is our responsibility to have a quality product working positively with all of our suppliers to produce the highest quality product expected of us . Quality must always meet engineering specifications ! We take our work seriously because we know a people buying these cars this the best car they can afford to buy !

@@lmezy25 I've not heard of this problem specifically to the Chevy Cruze . I also went to Auto Mechanic School and do some repair work on the side. The heat exchanger that warms the interior of the car is a closed system, if you have some kind of leak you would notice moisture inside your windows and smell and taste antifreeze in the air, I don't think this is your problem. You have some kind of leak that is burning off on the exhaust or block of the motor, they are being pulled in from the outside through your ventilation system through the heat exchanger is causing this burnt smell , but you probably already know that. First thing I would do is test the antifreeze to be sure it is at the proper mix and not overfilled , if it's improperly mixed antifreeze and water can boil out the Overflow and while driving blow on the hot components of the motor. But you're a pretty smart person and you probably eliminated the obvious possibilities , and still haven't found the problem. Next I would try a UV dye in the coolant be sure to follow the instructions , I suspect a very small head gasket leak, even though there are low miles on your car ,too many people like to drive their cars hard and not properly cool down and take care of they're expensive investment. You've obviously had some kind of leak and I've had to top off your coolant and if the mixture is improperly mixed it could create hotspots in the block of the motor causing a head gasket leak. You didn't describe anything from your details about overheating problem, I can only speculate with as much information you have given me .
@@kenbell7156 appreciate all that and I have checked most of those things the smell just got noticeable recently so I've been checking on it more often too confine the defect there's a lot of talk about it on Chevy Cruze talk blog I believe it is as you stated also the seal is not very good from engine smells into my heater ventilation vents on the outside and there is this coolant reservoir vent that has coolant moisture in it like coolant can spill out I guess if the pressure is off I believe this is burning off and getting sucked right out of my engine into and through past my cabin filter into my cabin but not 100% yet I'll let you know once I figure this out
The only video of today that finally answered my question. I had a Honda passport 2002, I already sold it a long time ago but it did only get 5 miles per gallon, it had a bad transmission selenoid but now I know the reason for the crappy mileage.
I have owned my 2006 Chevrolet Impala LS since it was new. It has 230,000km. Mix of heavy city and highway driving. It is a pleasure to drive, with lots of power and space to haul my drums. It has been and still is extremely reliable since the day I bought it brand new. GM quality from Oshawa, Ontario.
Each brand makes good ones and bad ones, to just say they are all junk is just plain wrong. Gm made bad vehicles after 2000? do you know how many early 2000's LS engines are out there with 300 000+ miles? You know how many early 2000's Buicks are out there with 3800 series engines with 300 000+ miles? Toyota made a lot of crap too remember the Echo, Yaris and Tercel? Do you know how many Prius come into the shop with problems like no headlights, overheating, melted fuses etc...
Sorry dude, all of those Echos, Yaris and Tercels are still on the road. And Toyota, unlike GM, did not steal the US treasury blind. And when was the last Toyota customer deliberately killed with a faulty ignition switch.
@@danielhoover1080 I haven't seen a Tercel on the road for 20 years, Scotty made a Video about how bad they were. The Echo was complete crap they didn't even come with power steering or abs on the base model, everything in the interior is hard plastic junk, they eat front wheel bearings and exhaust donuts crank sensors go out early and timing chains stretch prematurely master cylinder and brake booster is trash evap codes at 50 000 miles. I see the odd Yaris on the road but they are plagued with excessive oil consumption, Headlight failure they eat rear wheel bearings and engine mounts transmissions are junk and clear coats peel.
@@danielhoover1080 you do realize all three (GM, Ford, Chrysler) took money from the Government? Gm was the last to get away from unions and was going bankrupt because of it. Toyota and Nissan have the worst employee pay and benefits out of the big 5. The information is out there please do your research.
My last 4 Impala's have been bullet proof with very few issues and the current 2017 is one of the best cars I have ever driven with a nice quality interior, very solid body and chassis and top notch ride/handing/steering and braking. GM's current sedans are very good cars and better built than cars from 18 years ago at the turn of the century.
Our company used a 01 Jeep Cherokee for our Wyoming fieldwork, and we racked up well over 200,000mi on it, kept the oil changed, and it still ran like new. Chassie held up well too over many-ya dirt roads.
I love GM but they have slipped a lot over the last 20 years. They cost more money but don't last as long. That's why I kept my 1968 Impala still solid ad a rock.
I hate GM there vehicles put me in debt! 1 vehicle has problems bad luck. but 4 GM products that's no coincidence I was born in 78 which would be the year you would have to go back to if you would want to find a product made buy GM that you could call a good or decent vehicle and most everything before that .the only thing they made worth a damm after was the late 80s 2.5 leader S.10 and it wasn't that great it was made cheap too but you could get a couple hundred thousand miles out of it if you took care of em.
Hey Scotty!! I know you don't like Chrysler, but I got this 2014 Jeep Patriot with a 2.4L 4-Cylinder with a 5 speed manual transmission and 4X4. It has 50K Miles, no issues, just replaced all fluids since we have severe weather here in Alaska.
the worst car that I've owned was a Pontiac Grand Prix, I called it "hand made" because we've changed just about everything under the hood very early on after the warranty.
Scotty I bought a new 2016 Impala l.t.z have only 19 k on it but its. Been great !! Love the safety features! Ride and handling! Great comfort minor warranty fixes ! Great bang for the buck!! Don't know what's gonna happen more miles! But till it breacks I'll drive it!! All cars are now made with a expircent date !! You gotta know when to hold em and when to fold Em.!! There all built now to be disbolas!! thanks!!
I've heard plenty of bad grand prix stories. I must have gotten a golden egg. I have a 2005 grand prix gtp that I use for driving back and forth from work. 225000 miles and I've only changed brakes shocks and water pump.
Grand Prix is a good vehicle if you take care of it - most people who complain about them treat them like crap. The W body is very underrated and is a solid vehicle. Much more reliable than modern vehicles.
Ive had alot of gm cars. Its definitely been a mixed bag. 2 3rd gen camaros, 1 lt1 4th gen, 1 ls1 4th gen. 1995 lt1 corvette. 2009 cobalt ss sedan. 1993 Eldorado with the 4.9 that i still have, which i gave to my father and just inherited back. My 1999 ls1 camaro 6 speed was a very solid car. Just sold it a month ago with 67k miles. No problems at all. The 1996 camaro i had ran good, but the interior was very horrible. Had 138k when i sold it, original clutch. Just regular maintenance. My 95 vette was also a really good car. It rode smooth like a Cadillac for some reason i guess they were marketing those cars to the boomers. But the lt1 was bulletproof. Just some interior rattles that were annoying. My 2009 cobalt was a rocket. Only problem was that i felt unsafe in it due to the steering issues those cars are plagued with. And theres really no fix for it. Clunky steering racks and columns and shafts. Stay away from cobalts. Now my 1993 Eldorado with the 4.9 that im currently daily driving since i just sold my cobalt and camaro, is a tank. I dont see this car stopping any time soon. The interior is actually put together very well. Every surface is soft. Its very comfortable and is also pretty good in the snow due to that heavy v8 over the front wheels. I honestly think that GM got really bad around 2005 and started making real trash. I wouldnt even buy a c6 vette due to this reason. Compared to a c5, the build quality on the c6 is horrendous. You get a cobalt steering wheel, which is a total deal breaker for me. I am going to look at a 2000 buick regal gs with 53k on it later today. Guy says its the cleanest in the country. I try to look at other car brands but idk. Gm just makes some cool cars that i like. Ive never had a catastrophic failure with any of mine. So my advice is stay away from gm after 2004.
Yeah I've had a 73 El Dorado, 83 Blazer, and I'm driving a Cobalt SS right now that has been rock solid. Agree with you about the steering. I've never been stranded on the side of the road by GM, but I probably won't be buying another.
Yes cars from 73 and newer are junk. But the Pickuos & SUVs got awesome in 1996, and even better in 1999. They had a slight downgrade in quality in 2008-2013. Then 2014, they are lemons with poor quality parts.
Chevrolet still makes good cars, but a lot of GM's other sports cars are either made into crap or refused to prevent competition of their main sporty brand, Chevy.
Yep, in the 70’s Pontiac made the Fiero witch made successes but sales weren’t doing so good at times, especially Pontiac in the Mid-2000’s when they had that lawsuit.
2019 Consumer Reports shows that Ford is much better on initial quality than GM. I don't think GM ever recovered from the crap they built from the late 70s to the early 90s.
8 out of 10 SUVs in the Middle East are Toyota Land Cruisers. Since they are able to withstand the scorching heat non-stop without breaking down. Unlike every other American and European car brand.
YEah but can they survive an attack from an A-10 Warthog? Toyota Tacoma...the number one truck used by ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood...made in the good old USA....Texas to be precise.
I bought a brand new 2006 Pontiac G6 back before the housing crash and GM's bailout. WORST. CAR. EVER. It was slow, plastic interior everywhere, CD player didn't work, got around 18 mpg and was just an all around terrible car. I stopped caring about it and 3 years after I bought it, I got rid of it and didn't care. It was my first new car and I haven't bought a new car since but I do have a 2012 Chevy Impala LTZ that I bough used back in 2013. It had 30k miles, the car came from a rental company and I still have it. It has about 75k miles now and the car runs great, has never broken down and I do take really good care of it. I like GM cars but some of their cars are terrible. I find the fulll size sedans and their SUV's and sports cars to be pretty good.
@ Ray Lat, I bought my car from a Chevy dealership. I don't know which rental company it came from. I was just told that the car came from a rental company. Given that it had 30k miles and the car was only a year old at the time, I believed it.
I was driving a 2015 Chevy Suburban a couple of weeks ago going down the highway in the middle of Dallas the transmission gave out. I was broke down on the side of the highway, unbelievable this vehicle is only three years old.
My dad bought an 04 Impala that was loaded. It was a comfortable piece of crap. He had to sell it for beans when the plastic head-gasket went bad and leaked coolant into the combustion chambers and ate the engine up. Then he bought a rebuilt 2008 Malibu (the old ugly rental style). He paid 8k with like 17k miles because it was a rebuilt that an insurance company bought back from the original driver after a wreck. That car lasted him quite a bit longer and gave him very few issues until it had surpassed 150k miles. It was a much better vehicle, and that 3.5 would flat scoot. So I guess it just depends sometimes. Some of their vehicles aren't bad, and others, not so great.
Its a hit or a miss. I had a fully loaded 04 Impala and it was the most unreliable car I've ever owned. And I've owned nearly 20 cars so far in my life. And Dex Cool isn't bad, it just needs to be changed at 10 years or 150k. And never should be mixed with green coolant. Most people ignore both of those rules though. Of all the issues, I've had with my Impala, Dex Cool luckily wasn't one of them.
I have a 1996 Cadillac with the Northstar engine. I performed coolant changes ever 4 years, and oil changes every ~6000 miles. I am the original owner, and never had any issues with it. I replaced the radiators, hoses, and water pump before they developed any leaks, and so it never overheated. Preventative maintenance is a must on any car, and it will last. I drive this garage queen about 2000 miles a year now, but it has 121,000 miles on it.
I have a 2014 LTZ Chevy Cruze juat put 62k on it no problems but just recently I have been smelling a bad burning coolant smell coming from my vents. II looked stuff up on Cruze talk and they're talking about its coming from the reservoir tank do you know anything about this
@@gravemind6536 Because even new cars can have issues. My friends 2 year old Scion FRS with 25k had issues that you would've never expected from a nearly new car
I work with a guy who’s work truck is a 2017 Chevy Silverado, he drives a lot so it had about 120,000 miles on it according to him, it’s sitting in the shop waiting for the transmission to be rebuilt. He was leaving the plant one day going to lunch and realized as he sped up it wasn’t shifting so he stopped and tried to put it in reverse and it wouldn’t go, fluid level was full.
Scotty, I learned to drive on a Chev Biscayne too! It was a 1966 with " Three on the Tree" standard transmission. The trouble with 1950's and 60's cars though, is that they became rust buckets in the north after only 6 or 7 years of driving.
1970 chevy vega. Rust bucket. Oldsmobile diesels in the 1980s. Nightmares. Ford just a few months ago abandoned all car models except the Mustang. The Big Three isn't serious about small cars, they want trucks and big profits, so don't drink the koolaid when car & driver or someone else says, "THIS is the year (gm,ford, chrysler) really turned it around and made an awesome compact car." They said it about the Cobalt, they said it about the Dart. They probably said it about the fire-sale Pinto but I'm not that old.
driving trucks in the city, when they shift into OD on a 25mph road the speed always creeps up without even touching the gas, got 3 tickets 4 years ago from that happening.
I've done plenty of revs in my rebuilt 350 and even up to 5500 no problem. Do I advise keeping it at that rpm, no! You gotta build them up. But a couple times won't hurt unless you got serious engine problems
GENERAL MOTORS make excellent vehicles my 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo ss has 265,000 miles and still running and my 2007 Pontiac grand prix with 141,000 miles still runs great and my wife's 2004 Chevrolet impala with just hit 135,000 miles and runs with no issues. I'm looking to purchase an 2005 Chevrolet equinox and a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier GM make the finest automobiles in the U.S. auto market.
Terrence Banton You're not in the market for new or late model year vehicles. So i'm pretty sure your opinion of an almost 20yr old cars build quality is irrelevant to GMs quality now.
Scotty, have you lost your mind on front end alignment? On modern cars the only thing you can adjust is toe. Adjusting camber takes the addition of camber plated to the strut mounts. If the caster is out, something is bent in the front end.
Hello, Scotty. I’m Orlando from Peru. I have a Toyota Corolla 1996 with a 2C diesel engine, standard transmission and 220’000 Km, it runs perfectly. My question is why does my car have a 4wd sistem with a diesel engine and a saloon chasis. Keep the great work.
GM has been hit and miss since the late 60s. The Vega would blow heads all the time, the lt1 350 a reliable gm engine was surrounded by the worst electronics outside of England and will leak oil due to a reverse oil cooling design that puts pressure on the manifold, shotty security systems, cheapest plastic. But one word says it all... Northstar. And im someone who likes GM. Their cars from the 30s are some of the best looking and reliable cars ever made. I have seen a 38 Buick OHV straight 8 with all original drivetrain 420k, 80 years and still going
As far as alignments, toe is about the only adjustment left. In a lot of cases caster or camber require after market shims, cambolts, or complete control arms.
Uh oh, my mom bought a 2012 chevy sonic LT when it was brand new and she paid it off fully a month ago. May have been a mistake. It has almost 70k miles...
You also want to make sure you change the transmission fluid right about now and regular maintenance and i shouldn't have to say it but it's not a racecar dont treat it like one like some people.
Damn... My mom bought a used Nissan with 100.000 miles and well... The engine is completely fucked, I should have been there to bargain the car because the previous owners just didn't maintain it right combined with the shitty engines they put in them
Had a 2010 Chevy Malibu LT, has good while it lasted, until I started to get issues early summer. Had to change bad bearings, then coolant leak, last my Transmission acted weirdly by being stuck at 3rd gear, and only way to fix it was to set it manually and back to auto to work. Got in an accident late October and got a new Corolla, never looking back.
I've own a 2004 and a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. The 06 has 185,000 miles on it now. Still running strong. I owned a 1999 Ford ZX2 Escort brand new back in the day and had to replace the manual trans at 36,500 miles right after the warranty was up and again at 72,000. I traded it at 78,000 because the AC went out. I've had good luck with GM products not with Fords.
We’ve got a 2009 suburban with 180,000 no issues other than maintenance and brakes. And a 2003 3500 diesel with 220,000 only thing is a clutch every 100,000 miles. We bought both trucks “used” both only had a few thousand miles when we got them. And a 1998 1500 only thing we’ve done in 200,000 is a transmission and cps. These are great vehicles IF you take care of them.
I brought my 2018 colorado for the first time ever a few days ago. The dropped a garage door on the roof of my truck. Dented the actual frame of the truck. Now they are lying about it and denying everything. I'm getting a lawyer on monday.
If you're in Michigan, look at Steve Lehto; he has a youtube channel. Regardless of where you live, if you don't need a truck for utility, maybe this is a double blessing; you could buy a cheap used Corolla or Matrix from 1999-2008, or some 2001-2011 Camry (except for 2007); they all get pretty good gas mileage.
@@punker4Real: Agreed. In 2014, my wife had a Toyota Camry for a rental vehicle and I was able to literally remove the armrest on the front driver door using my bare hands. Toyotas seem to exhibit good interior fit and finish, but the material choices are typically very cheap.
You can talk all you want about the GM cars, but you have to respect their trucks and true SUVs (Tahoe, Suburban, etc. Not the crossovers). They've been made very well since their inception.
So true. I find that any Chevy with a V8 seems to hold up better than other models lol. I once saw a Duramax with 842,000 miles on it. Which is apparently not surprising for Duramax diesels.
Didn’t know you live in Houston, good I’ll bring my 2008 Lexus gs350 to you. Both banks are running rich, already unplugged the maf and the engine died. Will clean the throttle body next. Also got a p0055 code. Love the videos!
EARLY 2000s? More like the early seventies I used to do a ton of four wheeling, Chevy makes the shittiest transfer cases, limited slip axles. "Chevy trucks like a rock", cuz when you get them off road they sink like a rock.
I wouldn't say they make the shittiest parts, because a lot of the times their transfer cases are just Universal units. A good example would be the np231, they use them in Jeeps, Dodge pickups and Chevrolet pickups. I mean that yes there are some differences in componentry but it's the same base platform, same thing with some of their axles, a good example being the 14-bolt they use in the 2500's and such. Dodge also uses the same axle
@@dalton456 Chevy's use Borg Warner or New Venture transfer cases just like Ford and Chrysler do. However the GM axles like the 14 bolt are exclusive to GM, Ford, and Chrysler make their own axles also for certain models, Dana axles have been used by all three manufacturers and the 14 bolt you are referring to that is used in 03 and up Ram HDs and 01 and up GM Duramax trucks is not the GM 14 bolt, it is an AAM 11.5" axle.
@Two two three Five five six Dodge has never used the GM 14 bolt axle, New process, became New Venture and the transfer cases have been used by all three manufacturers like I said before.

Not too much work was needed after the original investment. Parts aren't too bad in price, but to be fair my previous car was an 06 Cadillac CTS.

I’ve owned Chrysler, Ford, and GM products. Ford and Chrysler never gave me problems, but the Hummer and the Cobalt gave me NUMEROUS headaches!!!
Chrysler got worse since fiat took over.

And the people in the 59 were dead and the those in the Malibu lived as long as the seat belts and air bags worked.
How do you know all this?

What is "ect"?
I had a 2005 Malibu Classic. My biggest issues with that car were:
-The anti theft system. My God I hated that the most. Left me stranded so many times.
-It began losing quite a bit of oil. No one could figure out where it was going. It had no signs of burning any oil either. Different shops told me different things.
-Leaking Rack/Pinion
-Transmission problems.

My '96 Buick Park Avenue was always reliable and got 30 mpg highway doing 80 with the AC on between San Antonio and the casino in Eagle Pass, TX.
GM started going downhill by the mid-1970s.
nah, chevy still made good products in the 80s and 90s
Yes cars from 73 and newer are junk. But the Pickuos & SUVs got awesome in 1996, and even better in 1999. They had a slight downgrade in quality in 2008-2013. Then 2014, they are lemons with poor quality parts.
I had an 06 Chevy Malibu. Never had a problem with it. Drove it up until 2 weeks ago. Still runs great but I wanted something a bit more modern
We have a 2004 Buick Century. It is a fantastic car with well over 250,000 miles (400,000km). We have driven that beast everywhere it seems.
2019 Consumer Reports shows that Ford is much better on initial quality than GM. I don't think GM ever recovered from the crap they built from the late 70s to the early 90s.
I bought a 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel and now have 130,000 miles with no issues and love the fuel economy.
And they get serviced by butchers.
I'd love to have an older model Toyota Land Cruiser Station wagon.
Toyota Tacoma guaranteed to blow up anytime everytime! Right on time! LOL
Sadly ISIS is driving some superduties as well that we left over there when we pulled out of Iraq.
2007 malibu 220000 miles replaced tires a few times and kept the oil changed still running strong
You're hitting the sweet spot of "everything going wrong" on that Impala. Brace yourself.
SirVixIsVexed very very weak transmissions though 4t65 don't last 100k
@ Ray Lat, I bought my car from a Chevy dealership. I don't know which rental company it came from. I was just told that the car came from a rental company. Given that it had 30k miles and the car was only a year old at the time, I believed it.
John Hull, my car is a 2012. The 2012 and up Impalas all had the 3.6 v6 and 6 speed.
SirVixIsVexed, I had a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 3.8. Loved that car and engine. I sold it when I got my Impala.
I drive this garage queen about 2000 miles a year now, but it has 121,000 miles on it.
i got a tahoe ... nothin wrong with it..... they do make good trucks..
mikeatc33 A week ago we replaced the radiator on our 2015 Tahoe. But our 2013 Yukon is still going strong
iTwIsTeDZz ..... cool thats good....maintance is a good thing...
That’s not a truck. Unless you have a rare Tahoe that has a bed on it.
@@hellonwheels9149 it's a truck buddy just not a pick up
I just traded my 2002 Tahoe with 225k miles and it was a work horse. Now I have a 2017 Colorado, I hope it will be the same.
I guess I lucked out. My 03 Silverado 2500hd has 430k miles and still going strong.
Got 524k on my 02 lb7 tow 25,000 pounds regularly
My sister has a 16 cruze and it's at 45k miles. No problems! Yet
Car isn't even 3 years old why would their be?
Shits still new
45K miles? That's it? Try 272K miles on my 98 dodge ram 1500
I have a 2014 LTZ Chevy Cruze juat put 62k on it no problems but just recently I have been smelling a bad burning coolant smell coming from my vents. II looked stuff up on Cruze talk and they're talking about its coming from the reservoir tank do you know anything about this
@@gravemind6536
Because even new cars can have issues.
Hey Scotty what do you think about a 98 GMC Senoma 4 cylinder with 170,000 miles on it
I had a 2003 Chevy Tahoe... 305,000 miles... and its still GOING!!!!
Rev up your 5000 Engine Repair Bill From The Chevy Stealership! Rev up your PRAWBLEMS!
If the customers wanted small cars the mfg's would build them. Slobs being slobs, though, want the biggest behemoth they can get their hands on.
You are right. I also worked in General Motors and cost reduction is a must.
My friends moms GMC Yukon’s transmission went out after 10k miles
driving trucks in the city, when they shift into OD on a 25mph road the speed always creeps up without even touching the gas, got 3 tickets 4 years ago from that happening.
Rev up your Chevy!
Lmao
It won't start. How do you do it?
Jeremo Brown rev up any and go ahead and redline it any any motor will suffer and blow up .
U guys still buy GM😂
I've done plenty of revs in my rebuilt 350 and even up to 5500 no problem. Do I advise keeping it at that rpm, no! You gotta build them up. But a couple times won't hurt unless you got serious engine problems
I learned to drive in my dad's '58 BISCAYNE !! 3-tone green !! That thing was built like the Rock of Gibralter with a bullet proof stove bolt 6..
The quality of GM's has been going down since the 70's.
Greetings from South Africa. The Isuzu trucks from the 90's were fantastic trucks with the 2.5l and 2.8l diesel and turbo diesel engines.
My moms 2005 impala was garbage. Needed a new transmission after 60k miles and engine bearly ran when it got close to 200k
My 99 Tahoe got to 100k and had a tranny rebuild, no other problems though.
2013 GMC Terrain, 121k miles (90% highway miles near 70mpg) , regular maintenance, I’m original owner, so far so good no major issues, 🤞

@@ZambonieDude I have an late model vehicle which is 2009 Mercury Milan made by Ford motor company
These pictures keep getting better and better and better. That Jeremy Clarkson GIF at 4:05 is amazing 🤣
Love my 1991 GMC K2500 pickup! Can't go wrong with the early 90s trucks if you're mechanically inclined.
a lot of Chevy crappy cars are actually Japanese Suzuki, Isuzu, others are Korean Daewoo...etc
Sounds accurate. I miss the quality cars, those were the days. My dads first car was a 74 Malibu, and for a boat, he said it had a pretty strong V8.
I like rolling up the fat Woolford and getting all schmoked up while watching these videos
Just make sure she keeps up with maintenance, this dude exaggerates so much
You also want to make sure you change the transmission fluid right about now and regular maintenance and i shouldn't have to say it but it's not a racecar dont treat it like one like some people.
The biggest mistake was a 6 year finance deal she must be dreadful with money.
Damn... My mom bought a used Nissan with 100.000 miles and well... The engine is completely fucked, I should have been there to bargain the car because the previous owners just didn't maintain it right combined with the shitty engines they put in them
Jordan Carlson q
Had a 2010 Chevy Malibu LT, has good while it lasted, until I started to get issues early summer. Had to change bad bearings, then coolant leak, last my Transmission acted weirdly by being stuck at 3rd gear, and only way to fix it was to set it manually and back to auto to work. Got in an accident late October and got a new Corolla, never looking back.
Rip Pontiac✌🏽
Just look at the replacement for the Holden Commodore in Australia!
I love my chevy
i have collected over the years all gm ..when gm made their own parts the made the best even toyota used our struts they were that good
I have a 2017 chevy sonic Premier and running like a champ at 145k miles. It's the 1.4L manual transmission
I brought my 2018 colorado for the first time ever a few days ago. The dropped a garage door on the roof of my truck. Dented the actual frame of the truck. Now they are lying about it and denying everything. I'm getting a lawyer on monday.
Damn! Good thing u didn't get in a rollover accident and found out this way anytime instead.
@@joedirte4485 gas efficient, I drive so much. You may be right, a blessing in disguise.

My aunt bought a 2010 Malibu new and had no big problems at all. Traded it in for a new 2017 Malibu.
More like the early seventies I used to do a ton of four wheeling,
Chevy makes the shittiest transfer cases, limited slip axles. "Chevy trucks like a rock", cuz when you get them off road they sink like a rock.
That's why you see Square Bodies at all Offroading events???
I wouldn't say they make the shittiest parts, because a lot of the times their transfer cases are just Universal units. A good example would be the np231, they use them in Jeeps, Dodge pickups and Chevrolet pickups. I mean that yes there are some differences in componentry but it's the same base platform, same thing with some of their axles, a good example being the 14-bolt they use in the 2500's and such. Dodge also uses the same axle
Chevy makes their own transfer cases? I thought Borg Warner made many of them.
