I got the Ferret when i went to spend the week with my grandmother in Florida. There was nothing to do there. She was nice enough to buy this toy for me and yes you are right it had a lot to play with on it. Isolated from the rest of my gijoe collection i played with this guy for a full 2 afternoons.
I gotta agree, if a toy wants to be played with, if it's fun just to mess with, it's clearly a good toy! Also, kudos to Hasbro for not cheaping out on detail and putting *something* seemingly everywhere. And the ability for Destro to ride into battle atop a DEMON is also great!
The DEMON might have been one of the last large vehicles I purchased during the vintage run GI JOE. I loved it's sci fi aesthetics and always pictured the Iron Grenadiers as urban assault specialists, not remote battlefield insurgents. It is an unrealistic vehicle but that's what Destro kind of fulfilled in the toy line. Like the Cobra Rage, the Demon seems to seem like it would never enter battle as a single unit. Great review.
@@christianhafer9819 dude, we both appreciate GI Joe! We are like collector cult, but we don't rob graves or scare people into joining. I may use a foot peg once in a while, but GI Joe and Cobra deserve to be upright, aiming guns and stimulating the imagination.
Definitely one of my all time favorites. Bizzare with vulnerable angles sure - enemy vehicles often had built in vulnerabilities; but it might be scary looking, initially unpredictable, and the crew's better shielded than with many Cobra or Joe vehicles. The wider stance would make for a wider target area, but also a shorter target than a comparatively sized vehicle; the wide spread wheel area would make the crew less susceptible to damage from mines. Also, those wide spread double row treads would probably give it exceptional agility for a tank. I think there was supposed to be a targeting camera on the larger laser canon so that could've been used to see to the left. The spotlight definitely could've been replaced with something more useful; but maybe it was supposed to make enemy's targeting difficult by blinding them? Like Destro himself you gotta imagine how it'd be best used. With that impressive long range firepower (those are some six big bad@$$ looking missiles, particularly for a vehicle that size), there might not be much left to counterattack with by the time these sci-fi monsters closed in. Besides, closing in was the Raiserback specialty, not theirs. Playing against a friend, I'd simulate the D.E.M.O.N.'s long range by using the missile's fins to slingshot them. Having good aim I repeatedly hit his tank or whatever before he could get close. Once he got so frustrated he just gave up and stormed off!😆. Thanx for the commercial, it was great to see again. I just wish you could explain how a "magnetic array laser" differs from a conventional laser cannon(?).
Love your summation on this one. One of my pet peeves with the GI Joe collector community (and to some extent the Toy collecting community in general) is that people sometimes lose sight of the fact that the original purpose of these toys was to be played with and be fun. Don't get me wrong, there were certainly designs that I thought were silly and/or faulty even as a kid and I look back on plenty of things I did like as a kid and wonder what it was I saw in them, but the bottom line was a lot of these sillier or impractical looking toys were super fun to play with back in the day. (The Havok would be another prime example of the same principle for me)
Who gosh damn cares if it would work as a real military vehicle??!!!!!! It's one of the greatest vehicles in the entire line! Play features, an awesome look, Driver, excellent detail. This toy is superb. Toy. TOY!
The DEMON is just an excellent vehicle and I'm a big fan of the Ferret figure although I can't say why. Luckily, the DEMON box had a picture of Destro's Despoiler docked on top of it, otherwise, I wouldn't have known about the feature. Speaking of the box, did you notice the huge Destro decal plastered right on top of the windshield instead of being placed underneath?! That is pimpin' yo.
i love the iron grenadiers and i wish they would have taken this into the 90's as an adversary to python patrol and slaughters marauders or just gi joe and cobra period seeing figures like scrap iron getting a new figure new vehicles maybe an updated hiss tank since destro designed them. Also would have loved to see aircraft or spacecraft so destro really would have his own army comparible to cobra! great review i made the cut off for timmers charity drive i hope everyone else did as well! The Joe community has been great to me and Im proud to be apart of it and things like the charity drive are what make it special!
This was an awesome review. Got me interested and picked up my own demon. Almost complete. Need that spotlight. Mine has one. But the mushroom peg is broke. And I'm finding that's a commonly broke piece on this toy. But aside from that I live this tank. And I have a despouler on the way!!
I had the Demon tank as a kid and I remember it just being a really fun toy to play with and one of my favorite Cobra/enemy ground vehicles. Also I’ve always liked the Iron Grenadiers, cool name and great color scheme with the red, black and gold.
The Demon is wicked cool I never had one as a kid but a buddy of mine did, luckily he was a good guy kid so it saw use by me mostly lol. If I remember correctly in the Catalog/checklist it mentioned the Despoiler being able to dock with the Demon
Loved the Grenadier faction and had all the toys except for the Dominator which I wanted so badly. Metalhead was definitely the best member though he wasn't very bright.
An odd vehicle design to be sure, but it packs serious firepower and unlike many Joe and (especially) Cobra vehicles, the ENTIRE crew sits inside. Demon drivers are much better off than their counterparts at the helm of, say, the Maggot or the Persuader!
DUDE!!!! I received all of the Iron Grenadiers vehicles and soldiers for Christmas 1988. Destro is still a BASOB. with his red cloak and hovercraft attached t o the battle trax tank.
I think the Cobra DEMON is meant for support and not front line combat. It's merely meant to finish the fight instead of start it. To me, that would explain why it's not protected as you would think it needs to be. A half dozen of these would strictly be for offensive support purposes. But the other side would already have to be falling back and running the other way. Then Cobra sends in the DEMONs for the final nail in the coffin.
Xenon gas is used in X-rays so I posit the searchlight is a targeting device allowing the Demon to aquire weapons lock from behind cover then pop up and strike and lower back down.
Easily one of my top 5 vehicles never had until a year or so ago and I love the multiple modes and just about everything about it as I am a fanatic for the IG storyline and wished it had been let to go in the direction it needed to be in the comic and toyline but I am grateful for what we have. I prefer the earlier Black-Gold-Red IG theme that was a very dignified look. I have Baroness in hte side facing seat behind the Ferret operating things and Voltar in back sticking hsi head out the window so he can be an easy target. Not T.A.R.G.A.T!
New to your channel, your GI Joe videos are amazing, best I’ve seen, funny and informative, I look forward watching them all! Now you just made me buy this
I loved the Iron Grenadiers. Too bad Scrap iron was never included since he worked for Destro. This vehicle was strange, but being a M.A.R.S. creation it's okay.
Well, it was finally revealed at the final JoeCon that this was originally a Snow Vehicle, but the suits told them to convert it to a Iron Grenadier vehicle. It makes sense as this looks a lot like the rl snow cats (?) used in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The Iron Grenadiers were all good except for the color scheme of the Annihilators and that copter tank thing. I always looked at this vehicle as a defensive vehicle more than an attack vehicle. Like Battleforce 2000. If you have 4 of these and put them next to each in a square. They can create sort of a base. Protected on all sides. If you have 4 of these you have enough armaments to knock down 48 planes with missiles and who knows how many troops and vehicles with those laser cannons. I'd prefer them to be grenade launchers, flame throwers or just some bad ass machine guns. It's your toy. You can imagine what ever you like to these vehicles to shoot.
Hello & Hi Commander ! So I read that comics as kid ... Episode about civil war begins in Polish comics when Dredknoks " Thunder Machine hit with Destro tank ... But you should know that Polish version of comics was complete fragmented so many aspect of civil war was lost & mixed with other story with Tomahawk chopper turne on Vietnam & air skirmish with October guard hinds Mi 24 . In Europe that mobile missile launcher was yellow ,black gray colors not in black . My first vehicle was Razorback , Wild roar & guy named Drklon with bike type vehicle but am not sure what name that bike was .
Am not sure now last comic came to me in 95 but am remember that Polish redaction has some problems with people who send letters with some questions about fabular issues . Sometimes these comics have one year pauses between sometimes translations was a disaster . But hey it was transformation time as kid you was happy about price 17 000 zloty current some enough 5 zloty after denomination off course ... In that times nobody asking why some figures like Psyche Out have tree versions or tree everything was so new USA & colorful . :P
October Guard comes tree times there was another comics about laser cannon weapon placed in helicopter , train & some awesome transport helicopter used by Cobra forces but am not sure now when it was & how I have that comic too .
While personally I don't care about D.E.M.O.N I really like Destro (my all time favorite character) and his Iron Grenadiers with they mostly black and red color scheme with some gold added in. Also it's nice to see that you mentioned whole feature that D.E.M.O.N has with Destro's Despoiler as it's so easy to forget.
Thank you! My laptop went down shortly after this video was shot and edited. I replaced it, then discovered I made a serious error in editing. I kinda sorta fixed it. It was the best I could do with what I had at the time. It won't happen again!
The operation system on mine kept crashing lately. I was afraid to put up more videos until I replaced it. Thank this time of year for electronics sales.
If Ferret had grey pants it would have been perfect, but I can't hate on the khaki. Although, what's up with the purple turtle neck on the card? Sheesh!
Was this faction successful financially? The fandom loves it but just wonder if it met expectations, why drop it after 3 years? Why was it brought in originally?
This was a bit weird for me, last week i bought a destro despoiler from ebay, i finally get round to opening it as i was going to do a box opening video with it included but decided not to, fast forward 6 hours laters im watching this video and there it is! What are the chances of that?
HCC788, I wanted to let you know that I am starting to collect more a more GI Joes now, but I plan on not only restoring GI Joe's, but I plan on going further, and doing stop motion and Radio Controlled GI Joes vehicles, aircraft, water vehicles movies coming soon to my channel, or even a different channel. Oh, I am planning on making 2 remote control USS Flaggs that will be for GI Joe and Cobra that will float on water like a lake, and also launch water borne radio control vehicles from the hanger deck with doors that come down into the water, and launch aircraft from the carriers.
I liked that Hama billed it as a long range artillery unit. Much like the M.A.G.G.O.T. this thing would have been target practice for fast attack vehicles with multiple firing positions like the Vamp or AWE Striker.
Tony Jackson : With those two double row treads spaced widely apart, a D.E.M.ON. could theoretically spin in place by putting one side in forward and the other in reverse. So it wouldn't necessarily be stuck facing one direction when dealing with an encircling attack.
