Side stepping and punishing is addicting. Stepping things or being evasive for opportunities and getting the cool side throws or back turn combos is the fun you get after the shine of starting a new game starts to wear.
I think the key to sidestepping is to start by not stepping, and then add situations where you can one at a time. For example, SSL against a df1 and adding that in before finding another move to sidestep. A lot of this stems from labbing and analyzing replays to see if SS was the answer to a poor situation you commonly found yourself in. Hope that helps and good luck!
@vonTiban when you land B1 and other CH launchers, I noticed that you opt for knees. Why not use B1F3 for the spin in to B1>3 to QCF 1? Does that route do less damage? Or are you just trying to use simple starters that lead to getting snake eyes?
Great video, man, fellow bryan main here. Do you have any advice on the bryan vs. nina match-up? I have a friend who is a pro nina player, and I can't beat him for the life of me
Nina unfortunately is too powerful right now, all you can do is play/read your friend. Nina gives us all big problems, I try to keep her a lil closer and use a poke heavy defense and offense. If I can get them to back up and play defense I stay with the heavy poking and look for ch f3, qcb1 and bully with qcf1+2. Sidestep after you land some pokes and use 4,3 or even just 4 followed by f3 or another poke like d4 or db3. Play fast and tight!
@@KatsuKingTVYessir! It’s best to approach Jin, Law, Ling and Leroy like this imo too. They all lack counter-play, Leroy was seriously underrated before being buffed…his sabacki is overtuned and he does a ton of damage on top of chip damage.
Yeah I'm unfortunately a bit lost in the specificities of the Nina matchup as well, but in general against rushdown characters, I tend to lean very hard into D4 kiting to make it as hard for them to get in as possible. That way you can abstract away most of the character and just focus on timing if at all possible. That being said, she's on our shortlist to lab so hopefully we'll find more insight after that labbing session!
I believe we covered this in the live stream, but for posterity's sake, the charge and non-charge have only 2 timings that are 40 frames apart, so I think it's feasible to react to the lack of "fast hit" with a button to challenge or sidewalk. Try it out with the 50/50 in training mode and see if you can react to it and lemme know! Thanks for watching!
@@vontiban I mostly watch your VODs for like 20 minutes a day, so it takes quite a while to finish just one video. Don't think I've gotten to the part where you cover that specific move yet. Labbed it for a bit and I didn't even realize it was so easy to beat it. Qcb1, 3+4 seemed like the best options due to CH properties, but in a real match it's just easier to sidewalk, yeah.
No worries at all! I only mentioned it because around the time you originally commented, someone asked me the same question on the live stream so I wasn't sure if you were the same person or if it was just a coincidence. 😁

It's definitely like a whole new game when you start to step! Thanks for watching!
used everything i learned from you and got my bryan to battle ruler thanks man
That's amazing! Congrats man, keep up the good work!
@32:29 I've never seen that grab before!
TBH I'm not sure which grab you're talking about here?
Hi :), great and valuable video. GGS !
Thank you so much!
This is one thi8ng I struggle with. I just don't know when to side step

Oh I didn't know you're in Texas. Any chance you're close to Austin? Would love to get in touch with the Tekken community in the area
I am actually in Austin! I would say UFO is my local arcade, though I need to up my attendance if I'm going to claim that haha!

No secret here, my combo is just a worse one that I haven't gotten around to shaking for the better route yet. I'll eventually knock it out!
@@vontiban dude your combo routes inspired my entire routes for 3+4 counter hits 😃! I was just curious

@BustaNAugusta, thanks for the reply and advice, I'll try and implement those pokes and punish hard reads. Mahalo ~

in a Bryan mirror match, how do you deal with their 3+4, 2 guard break at the wall?
