I love these replacement screens. I used to install those old AfterBurner front light GBA mods back in the day. It was better than nothing back then. One tip I will give, for those who are OCD about any dust getting between the GBA lens and the LCD screen, is to run a hot shower, for a few minutes. Wait five minutes, then do your LCD swap in the bathroom. The steam will attach to the dust and make it settle. Making the air totally free of any airborne particles.

@@gtbkts 👍 no problem. Dust particles tend to drive me crazy. When you try to get rid of one, three more show up!

Not only i am impressed with the quality of the screen, but also what surprised me was the robustness of the gameboy itself. I knew Nintendo devices were built tough, but seeing the gasket around the screen and the foam behind the screen all intact looking brand new on a device over 20 years old is impressive. Most standard devices would have the gasket turned to goo and the foam crumble to dust.
Edit: Also the instructions came out great, Lon! Good job on making a tutorial, it'll definetly be helpful for other people, considering the original instructions were less than stellar haha

Thanks for the video Lon! 👍 I just installed my IPS kits in my GBA and GBC and it has brought new life into those consoles. And yes, the OG GBA is the better GBA in terms of comfort while playing.
BTW, that GBA SP is an AGS-001 model which has a front lit screen. The backlit model is the AGS-101, which looks a whole lot better than the front lit model.
A tip for people who are looking for a backlit SP is to look at the screen while the console is off. The front lit (AGS-001) screen is light gray while off and the backlit (AGS-101) screen is black. You can also look at the model number on the label but I have found a few sellers at swap meets and flea markets that have replaced damaged labels with incorrect ones like putting a 001 label on a 101 console.

Thanks Lon... Now I need to go back and make ANOTHER video and compare the quality of this one to the old AGS101 mod and Funnyplaying IPSv2 screen replacement of the past! This looks pretty sweet, and I definitely think I'll need to add one of these to my collection and compare them all together!

Great video Lon! That new screen does look great! There are people who prefer the original Gameboy Advance’s form factor, although I’m personally fine with the SP.

I've got an SP that I keep in the downstairs toilet. I've had the same cartridge in it for seventeen years - Tetris from OG Gameboy, that sticks out the back. I've played it everyday for that length of time, it has served me well.

iFixIt has an excellent tool kit selection with an emphasis on quality. They produce repair instructions and sell replacement parts for many electronics. The bit kit shown in this video appears to be a clone of theirs.

I used to play my GBC & GBA on the bus or train from school, in the bright daylight, and the reflective-TFT made the screen more vivid than any backlight or side-light could. Efforts in the smartphone industry to put bright, battery-guzzling lights behind- or in the screen to try and out-bright the sun seemed like a waste of energy. Are there any screens out there that can harness the energy-efficient vividness of reflective TFT in the sun, while also providing comparable quality indoors or in the dark?

I wonder how long it might be before we see OLED replacements for classic handhelds. Also, the replacement I have for my GBA is an AGS-101 LCD. I wonder how it compares to these new IPS screens. I'd be interested in seeing a sidie by side comparison.

    Is this panel BGR?
The BGR subpixel layout is necessary for any algorithms used for subpixel font-smoothing, subpixel line drawing, etc.
Otherwise the appearance will be incorrect for any titles using subpixels in this way.

Lon, a general question, and respectfully... have you ever considered deleting your old videos ? Far too many videos loose any value, especially tech videos, after just a few years; some quicker than other. They just clog up the search results. Yes, we can set a filter, but then we have to do that with every search.
