the ultimatum was in hand when he talked about it
One card to consider for Alesha in addition to Nekrataal is Bone Shredder, out of Urza's Legacy. It has the same restriction of missing black and artifact creatures, but it only costs 3 mana and it has echo so puts itself in the yard for easy reanimation, and it has flying so can block a random angel coming in. Great vid as always!
Hope everyone enjoyed the deck. Always tweaking the list to do something different. Old list had kiki and feldon and felidar guadrian and the bell ringer. But the problem with that list was I ran like 6 ramp cards which wasn't enough so had to make cuts for ramp and a.little more.card draw.
But yea oh I agree the deck feels weird not always being full combo and always on the cusp of wining . Usually I just buried alive on the turn I plan to win. But a value one like what you did isn't unheard of.
Strixhaven has lots of goodies to try out for alesha
Pretty bummed that no one really plays mtg on my current schoolhouse but your vids do put a smile on my face.
Thanks man Glad I could bring you some joy.
One thing I must commend you on is how you refrain from firing off spells/removal just because you have it in hand (even if something scary is on board). Holding on to cards for real threats or better timing is something I hope more people do in their game play.
Thanks! Its actually something i worked on over the last year. If you watch some older videos I had a habit of firing off my removal just a little bit too soon. A lot of the times it would turn out fine but if I had to play a high power high skill player like Kristen I noticed that I would run into problems. Its very much a balancing act of: I see a card and immediatley think of all the worst things that have ever happened to me because of it, vs they actually arent that well setup right now, and holding off for something more important later is the right call.
Ooh man, first Loxodon Warhammer and now Nekratal? As if I didn't already love you.
Alesha was my first commander, too :) Mardu represent
Alesha always seems like such an innocuous Commander until you look at how many infinite combos she enables.
You can take the magic player out of the 90s but you cant take.....how does the rest of that go?
I love alesha I've always added cards like reconnaissance so she could attack profitable
Alesha was my first commander deck and I have been playing it for years now. I personally like to play a lot of board wipes to control the board and only cast Alesha when I am about to win. You should definitely play Ravenous Chupacabra too
Oh, I see Ravenous Chupacabra is already in the deck, great! On that note, Blood Artist is likely better than Zulaport Cutthroat though there is definitely an argument for running both
I don't see a Rogue's Passage (or the new version for low power creatures) but it is quite amazing with Master of Cruelties and worth some consideration. Also helps to keep Alesha alive later in the game if necessary. Sorry about the rambling, I'm just really passionate about Alesha
I had blood artist I t he deck. But I run smugglers copter and it hurt me more times than I liked when. I couldn't crew it. I've totes around alot. I had 5 aristocrat creatures in the list at one point. I recently took out fiend hunter (which goes Infinite with sun titan) to try out some other stuff. Old list had not enough ramp or card draw. It was hyper mill. I am still in transition to making it more moderande value where the plan is more consistent and I can play normal magic if my yard gets shut down.
@@dmany13 makes sense. I usually get around graveyard hate by running boardwipes and artifact/enchantment removal instead of single target removal. Big fan of Fiend Hunter + sac outlet as single target removal when not going for the combo
@@pedrohenriquesacramentodeo3458 same I took out fiend hunter at this time to rest out skyclave apportion
I do miss my fiend hunter thoe
I put in Behind the Scenes in my Alesha deck and suddenly attacking became a heck of a lot easier :)
That probably helps quite a bit! I dont know part of me just isnt feeling it as a fair deck these days. Other creatures are just too pushed size wise relative to their cmc so I think i like the combo route for this deck....its just really good at it.
why don't people run removal...there is an insane amount of wipes and removal in general in Mardu
Oh yeah!
I like Alesha, both for the value and the trans rep. The meta might move on from her but I never will
Turn 2 Sunbird's, ouch.
Alesha has always stood out to me as a really cool commander, probably a bit too combo heavy for me however
I’d second this. As soon as I read the title I had the urge to grab mine and build one. But then I thought of my playgroup and they run few to no combo style plays in their decks. So it would feel bad. Plus there’s something about combo decks I’m not into.
But if you build her without them she sort of lacks power now I feel.
@@TerraFilmTV I feel like Grenzo is almost a lower power level Alesha, and with added randomness fun stuff. I've seen cool decks around him, I just run him in Rakdos though
@@TerraFilmTV I've seen Alesha been built as a hate bear stax deck. But that's not fun.
You can just go standard aristocrats. Or even mardu warriors/humans. Lots of ways to go actually
not as stylish, but Ravenous Chupacabra is strictly better than Nekrataal.
I've always wanted to build this commander but it's so expensive in paper lol this seems like a really fun deck though
Alesha herself gets reprinted a lot. You can start with her with just your draft chaff and work your way up.
It's weird seeing another Alesha deck, it's even weirder that about 85 percent of this deck is different than mine. I never looked up what to build her with just built it.
Same here. The deck has had many revisions since she was printed. That's how long I've had the deck and by that amount of time. You can tell it's gone through a lot of edits.
What do you do.in your list? I've seen a few versions of alesha over the years.
@@dmany13 Mine is very much a value centric list. Think Teshar, Sad Robot, Noosegraf Mob and stuff to help with combat like Ankle Shanker and Reconnaissance. Back up plan if the deck I'm going against is too strong for mine is running Ravos, Soultender and Vial Smasher to stay competitive-ish but still have my value list.
@@FEARFREAK42 I like it. It's sounds like how i would like to build her one day. I'm slowly trying to get away from combos. And just be more value centric. Have you thought about having serra ascendant as just. A big beatstick from your yard or embodiment of agony. Could be interesting as well
@@dmany13 Embodiment is in mine. I think Ascendant is too cheesy good to be in it. I do have Master of Cruelties in there but that's it when I think overpowered. My build is so weak against my opponents but honestly just getting some wheels turning in it even if not very strong is just fun.
Does karmic guide and Kiki and sac equal infinite? Kiki copy karmic then sac the Kiki, then reanimate the Kiki with the karmic token repeat?
Oh it probably could, I had never thought about it. Isnt Kiki fun?!
@@CommanderReplay there’s always something I guess lol
@@CommanderReplay main reasons I took kiki out.
It was wayy to easy. I like a little challenge sometimes ;) so many accidental combos with kiki.
Boop
It's unfortunate that you have to focus an Alesha player down because of it always being a combo. Also, evidence that people don't play enough GY hate. I play three to four now in every deck; the stronger decks ALWAYS use their GYs...even the ones you least expect...board wipes & GY hate, people! Run more!
