The fact that this video still came up when I googled Korean washing machines just now is a good sign I think haha. Just sat here in front of my new laundry machine in Korea (BECAUSE I’M IN KOREA NOW) and labeled all of the buttons with post-it notes lol. Thanks!
the "composition setting" is for synthetics like polyester and nylon where the washing cycle is shorter to prevent wrinkling. The words under 30 degrees Celsius is "Tap Cold" which is pure, cold water. 30 degrees is actually still pretty warm. So tap cold is the coldest setting.
It's obvious that you have no idea how many people you've rescued with this video of yours! You saved me when I was dealing with a fancy washer at a residence hotel in Jeju and now with a less fancy model at my Airbnb in Seoul where the owner hasn't been super responsive to questions. I was wondering what I was going to do with a washer full of dirty clothes that I had just poured soap on. Thank you and bless you for this video!
You guys are life savers! I was staring at all the Korean buttons on my washer (no pictures on mine...) for a week wondering what to do and worrying I'd ruin all my clothes! Thank you so much for posting this!
Watching this actually gave me a better understanding of how to use my own washing machine. I had no idea why there were so many compartments for soap and what they were used for but now I know :D
i am enjoying your videos and learned how foreigners feel about korean culture. very interesting. :) some tips for you about the functions. * 배수 = waste the water. This function is to get the whole water out of the washing machine. you can use this when you want to stop the machine and pull out the laundry while it is working. you can not open the door unless the water is out.
1:30 that’s “Synthetic” which is the gentler version of normal cycle considering the tumble action, it works kinda like permanent press! And the personal water option😅 it’s something called “rinse hold”. When selected, the machine would keep the load floating in the last rinse water (with fabric conditioner, if added) and stops until you command it to do the very last spin drying cycle. And you’re done! It’s recommended when you’re not able to immediately take out the laundry loud after being washed, so the machine would stop finishing the cycle and hold for you to come back so the washed laundry wouldn’t get smelly waiting in the drum.
thank you!: ) I was getting so tired of washing, washing, and washing my clothes again (the last two were attempts at drying my clothes; ) so now my super wet clothes will be dry thanks to you guys; )
This is the same as standard european washing machines I grew up with. For colored clothing use 40degrees, cotton sheets and towels 60degrees. And to get rid of moldy smell, you need to run the 90 degree cycle time to time to clean the machine (and you can use an acid "lemon powder" to clean it too). Also you need to clean the "lint collector" at the base of the machine time to time. I wish the north american machines would allow choice of different spin cycles and water temperatures too...
Moldy and crunchy!!! I know the secret now, thanks for the tip. I didn't think I needed fabric softener if I was hang drying. But I do notice even if I hang the clothes as soon as it is done washing it still has a funky smell to it. Not as bad as if I leave it in the wash for a bit then it STANKS!
the last cycle is the drain cycle, so for example if your washing machine turns off with water inside you can start that cycle to drain the water inside also, if you want to start a drain-spin cycle you have to turn the machine on and dont press any of the cycle buttons, you just need to press spin and start
My best guess for the "composition" button is that it more accurately translates to "composite," which would be for synthetic materials, like polyester. Because they're not as fibrous they don't hold onto dirt as much, and thus don't need as long a wash time.
Awesome video and comments... my Tromm has been stressing me out! It's very similar to yours. The door is really hard to close properly which was compounding the problem. Last year I had an old school Korean washer which I didn't understand but was easier to use. But thanks to you I can learn to love my fancy new Tromm!
wow, it takes forever to wash, in South Africa, for a 7 kg load, normal cycle will be about 45 mins and quick wash like 32 mins, and it only washes with soap once. I'm thinking this either means korean washing machines wash more gently, or my clothes in Korea will come out really clean :D either ways, thank you so much for the post, I love you guys ;)
Also, according to Google Translate, one possible translation of 급 속 is "Speed Class," which could be Korean idiom for "Quick Wash," so I think you're on the money with your guess.
배수 = "drainage". basically, if you're outside in a heavy rain and your clothes are soaked, this'll take all the excess water out before you put them up to dry completely.
first setting is Cotton/normal That second setting is Syntethis progman third is Gentle, fourth is Wool/Delicate/handwash fives is pretty same but spin is faster, sixs is speedwas, 7 is rinse and spin, if you wanna only spin put the power on ja and then put spin speed. This machine is LG mades
@NWRequiem Simon and Martina met Amber backstage to cover Super Inkigayo and she said that she used their washing machine video when she first came to Korea :)
My detergent goes in the same spot as yours and I live in USA. There's a little leaven underneath and you just push it to the side and then pull that thing out. I can't tell if yours has a hole under it to push the lever to the side but it might instead of you just yanking it open
mine is top loading and doesn't look ANYTHING like this! The controls are way different too! haha! I think I've figured out how to use mine though. I'm doing my first load now . . . so hopefully it works! :P
Thank you for this. I just arrived in Korea a few days ago and my washing machine is a bit different, but I'm about to give it a try. Wish me luck! O_o
* 합섬=synthetic fibers. This function is used when you wash only (or most) synthetic fibers like poly ester and nylon. They need less time than cotton. - laundry powder panel. you put the powder in both sides but you should only put it in left side (the bigger one). Right side is for very dirty clothings and can properly used with 예비세탁 button (= preliminary wash). at most times only left side box needs to be filled. Enjoy Korea! ^^
I just sent this video to a friend who is in Korea right now and wants to do her laundry, I rewatched the video for the first time in years and just realised that Martina painted only one of her nails. Probably cuz it was the finger that was going to show everything but then when the other fingers appeared in the shots it felt wrong. Haha
Korean washing machines are almost like german ones... It's actually really similar. So yay. When I go to Korea I will be able to wash my clothes without any problems.
Trying to imagine why Amber was watching this video regarding washing machines Thought process of Amber: "Hmmm I need to wash some clothes today but I don't understand the instructions on the washing machine!" *goes on RUclips and types "How to use a korean washing machine" "Oh!" *clicks on the first video and watches* "This is really helpful!! :)"
You say you use the delicate cycle because you like the really cold water. Can't you change the water temperature on the normal cycle? I always thought that the delicates meant that it didn't spin as fast also or agitate as roughly. But anyway I was just wondering if you could change the temperature setting on any of the settings. I thought I remember you saying that but maybe not LOL
I hava TROMM here in the philippines. Learned so much here. But i wonder why there are two soap cycles. Does anyone know where i should be putting vinegar and baking soda for those times i want to wash my pillows?
Hehe.... I see a lot of people watching this because Amber did XD Btw, I think you made a mistake at 2:03 saying that the cycle is only 1 min and 11 seconds?
Wow, their washing cycle takes a long time, even for the shortest cycle. They might be trying to conserve water? If anyone could tell me why it takes so long that would be great.

Still so helpful in 2018. Just moved to Korea as an English teacher and i never had a washing machine like this
Glad to help! I wonder if the machines have changed at all since we posted this video..

I could not figure out where to put the softener and soap until I saw this... thank you so much!
My soap goes in the same spot hers does and I live in America. So they do have these in America☺
급속-- express wash
냉수= cold water
Hello, please can you help me out with my hauzen Samsung washing machine?
the second setting "합섬" is an abbreviated form of "합성섬유", which means "SYNTHETIC FABRIC."
you just saved my life!!! I enjoy your channel so much!
I'm staying at an AirBnB in Korea and have no idea to use the washing machine. This is really helpful. Thank youu!!
That’s fantastic! Glad this video still helps people out :)
I think I have a EYK addiction problem. I would watch them do their laundry
you and 82,028 people it seems!
Me too.

Dunno if anyone has already posted this but at 2:30 Martina points to "냉수" -- it means tap water!
Am i the only one who would willingly wait an hour and 11 mins just to watch more of simon and martina?

This taught me things I didn’t even know I needed to know
I think the one with the shirt is the "sport" program for workout clothes, and the last one is for soaking before selecting washing cycle
Simon reminds me of Marshal from HIMYM especially his voice
water supply means if you have any water in it, it will drain
That first rinse/gentle scrub on the detergent drawer means that it is for pre-wash
wow, it takes forever to wash, in South Africa, for a 7 kg load, normal cycle will be about 45 mins and quick wash like 32 mins, and it only washes with soap once. To get rid of the moldy smell you need to run it a few times at the highest temp. We have pretty much the same machine in Germany.
Thank you so much! But, what does waste the water mean?
Thank you for this. I just arrived in my Air Bnb and was trying to figure out the detergent dispenser.
Still using this video. In 2022. 😅 Thank you!
Also, according to Google Translate, one possible translation of 급 속 is "Speed Class," which could be Korean idiom for "Quick Wash," so I think you're on the money with your guess.
what happens if you put the fabric softener where the soap should go and vice versa?
reads the description at the start "super boring if you dont live in korea
continues watching

@NWRequiem Simon and Martina met Amber backstage to cover Super Inkigayo and she said that she used their washing machine video when she first came to Korea :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!! Just moved to Korea and have the exact same washer!
My detergent goes in the same spot as yours and I live in USA. There's a little leaven underneath and you just push it to the side and then pull that thing out. I can't tell if yours has a hole under it to push the lever to the side but it might instead of you just yanking it open

Interesting to see that Korean washing machines are very similar to German ones. It is just clockwise and a botton instead of that noisy wheel :).
Thanks for this video, actually very helpful!
That is an exact copy of my washing machine in the UK :) Europeans and Koreans have similar washing machine tastes.
the "compisition" option means acrylic, i can tell by the symbol.
Thank you for this. I just arrived in Korea a few days ago and my washing machine is a bit different, but I'm about to give it a try. Wish me luck! O_o

Thank you! That helped us enormously!
Sooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly helpful ....thank you
Glad this video can still help out! We suffered our first year in Korea with poorly washed clothing...haha!
급속 is the short form of 급한 속도 which means faster speed.
Oh cool, it's exactly like the washing machine that we use in the UK or of what I have seen so far. Its so similar to the one that I use at home.
then other options where spin speed is RPM they mean Rinse
and hold and one means no spin
the "composition" button is for synthetics like polyester.
The water for the wool and hand wash mean cold 20 degrees Celsius
The first one with the longer time is probably HEAVY DUTY wash and the second with the shorter time is probably NORMAL wash.
Very helpful. Thank you for this video!
Thanks so much for this video, you saved out life!!!
Interesting, our washing mashine is LG, but looks a lot like this one and it even makes the exact same sound when you turn it on or change settings XD
Thanks, this was really helpful. Now I can wash my hockey jersey without messing it up.
Korean washing machines are almost like german ones... It's actually really similar. So yay. When I go to Korea I will be able to wash my clothes without any problems.
Thank you! Your video is a Godsend.
the setting right below the 30 Celsius means "cold"
⚠️ ATTENTION: DO NOT use cold water for powder detergent because the detergent will be stuck in the dispenser and wouldn't melt!
냉수 = Cold water. And 배수 = expel water from drum to out side.
i think that the other water temp were you said it is personal i think it means Cold
and the first putton is prewas and same putton is time save.
Thanks for this video! I want to ask where we put liquid detergent? My washing machine has 3 sections too with the blue one in the middle. Thanks~
Mir Jarimbetov put the detergent in on the left side, hope this helps :)
On some you can put liquid detergent in the drawer, on others it goes in the tub, the blue section is for softener
Thanks! First thing that popped up on Google.

The first temperature value may be "tap water temperature"
I never realized dryers were such a convenience!
why to translate when u have icons on washing machine for Cotton, Woll, etc like second setings SYNTHETIC fabrics.
합섬 is for synthetic materials
Life saver - thank you!
2nd setting is synthetic wash or permanent press
around 4:48 that phrase means "save time"
Thank you for this video !!
@simonandmartina it's to drain the water.
tq martina ...really helpful.
I bought a Samsung washer hoping it was in Korean
It wasnt
BUT IT SINGS TO YOU!
thank you so much, your blog is really helpful as well. Can anyone tell me if I can use those tide pods in these kind of washers?
Mahalo
Yes, just chuck one in the tub
Yea that's pretty much what happened :p But I have also lived here in Korea for a while so that helps
hi i want to know what voltage south korea using??? because do i need to bring a voltage converter ?
my washing machine suddenly couldn't be opened, I think it's locked. Can you give me any tips on what should I do?
I hava TROMM here in the philippines. Learned so much here. But i wonder why there are two soap cycles. Does anyone know where i should be putting vinegar and baking soda for those times i want to wash my pillows?
mix it.dry with dry.liquid to liquid.
@simonandmartina mabye it means it will drain the water inside
i think you ment at 2:04 1 hour 11 minutes, right?not 1 minute 11 seconds...il stand corrected if this is not the case.....
when the video was made, there wasn't translation option on google...
@issues2u where did u know that? in an interview or something? I wanna see the video! :D
@issues2u Where can I watch it?
Hehe.... I see a lot of people watching this because Amber did XD
Btw, I think you made a mistake at 2:03 saying that the cycle is only 1 min and 11 seconds?
Is this washing machine has a dryer ?
no dryer? do you just air dry them?
LOL! I can just imagine Amber watching this and trying to figure out her washing machine. HAHA!
Wow, their washing cycle takes a long time, even for the shortest cycle. They might be trying to conserve water? If anyone could tell me why it takes so long that would be great.
The "Leaf" is a Feather... For Delicate clothes
Really useful
