I saw this a couple years back, and the beat still haunts me to this day. It's an intensely memorable song that is underrated and slept on. I wish that there was something more I could do than like and share this so that he can get the proper attention he deserves.
Mind blowing! Absolutely baffling!! He was introduced to me a couple years back, and instantly shot to the Top of My List. I've appreciated underground hip-hop since the 90's, and then Deca came into my life.
Dude, mammons mantra got reccomded to me on spotify. I'm so glad they did. You're music is super good and the music videos are enjoyably stylized and I love it. Keep going man

where do u guys think deca gets his voice samples from? i figure some of it is old movies and interviews and such...but i cant quite find anything like that

So glad my homie showed me deca. Best part is, I did a deep dive and was able to point my boy toward these animated masterpieces. He had no idea deca did all this work
yeah Adam is right this guy has got to be one of the best hiphop lyricists I have ever seen and nobody knows who he is. He's like Aesop Rock with combined religion dreams abstract and his own past together in one line.
Stop fixating on the fame of an artist you resonate with. You think he wants to taste the temptation of Mammon? Be thankful you've found a gem. Buy his album if you want to contribute. Peace to all.

Question to those to are somewhat educated in literature: do you think Deca is explicitly referring to "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Gilman? About halfway through the song he talks about the beast he "knows well" (possibly talking about his flawed inner self) and how it hides "behind the flowers and the details". I just feel like there's no way he isn't referring to this masterpiece of a short story (from over 120 years ago no less) since they both make a point about how oppressed and depressed the protagonists are in their respective stories. Probably won't get a response but figured I would give it a shot
What about the lyrics you said is a reference to the yellow wallpaper? Deca loves Blake so it's certainly within the realm of possibility that he's referencing classic literature
I honestly think it's more about Jung's idea of the shadow and the archetypes of the subconscious. A pattern repeated throughout this song and a lot of mythology and literature.
Probably the best put together song/video, and the best thing I can switch one of decas song and it's just as good, thus shuts been on replay for two weeks now
Song is great. would listen to it while working on remodels. Question for the man himself or any movie buffs. "remember that language is power", "I will I will I'll remember that" Where is that taken from? Movie? TV series? I have exceptional googling skills when it comes to technical things, but I am drawing blanks here. Any help is appreciated to solve the riddle in front of me.
Anyone know where the part "remember that language is power; I will, I will, I'll remember that" is from? Is that Scarlett Johansson? Sounds sooo much like her
Deca is a genius, both musically and artistically. Hugely under received....share his music!

Hi 👋 I'm exile 😅
Dont need deca to be mainstream. I like getting his content just like this. With a community who appreciates his stuff and others like it.
Yep! :)
Still listening 6 years later
Deca has to be one of the most slept on, underrated, and underappreciated artists around. Please share this music with everybody you know.
Now this is how Hip Hop should be, just beautiful poetry set to music. Well done.

This is the dopest, most original take on hip hop I've heard in a long time. Love it
Why isn't Deca famous?
i wish this was the hip hop they put on the radio, maybe then i would have to debate so many misinformed people about how great hip hop is!!
Because fame doesn't always equal skills.
exactly
cause rare things is not for the mass.. the mass is not rare.. just trivial

deca, aesop rock collab would make the world explode

One by One the angels fell
God had sent a horrible plague of deaths
Why do you think that God would do a thing like that?
Deca presents a new world of sound
[Verse 1: Deca]
Back chasing dreams here we go again
Run 'em down with bloodhounds and dobermans
I'm at the mercy of the blowin' wind
It's all open ended like
Everything in life 'till your soul ascends
From madmartigen
To sad harlequin
To black hearted kin
Flashbacks bar to Kim's
Cardinal sins hypodermics in the garbage bin
Marked men follow when the saints go marching in
Dreams crack then fade into memory
My Pops said that we share the same brain chemistry
That's where I got my appetite for self destruction
I need balance I need help adjusting
But one day I'll awaken in a state of grace
Quit making the same mistake
Of abating the pains and aches
Maintain a creative space
Get loose with the papermate
I've been waiting for day to break
The future is taking shape
[Hook: voice samples]
Remember that language is power
I will, I will. I'll remember that
Lone steppenwolf offer no apologies
Until their brains snap open
[Chorus: Deca & voice samples]
God said
We'd be in trouble if we ate that fruit
Nameless soldier
Trying to get over
No peace
Show teeth hold a grudge
Find another soul to judge
No peace only blood
Nameless soldier
Exile driven out
Sinner drifting on a cloud
Wild child in a crowd
No peace
No peace only blood
Don't sleep show me love
Only blood
[Verse 2: Deca]
I chased dragons now I'm chasing the dream
They're both mythic
One's a ball and chain the other's the soul's image
Restrained manical child so afraid
Like somebody's trying to tear the wings out of my shoulder blades
The whole wide world's obsessed with the Faust legend
You gotta go through hell to get to heaven
Me I know the beast well
He's hiding in the flowers and the details
Enjoys long walks on the beach and collecting seashells
Recording live from the belly of the beached whale
East of eden where the fallen angels and the meek dwell
Where love's the color of blood an pure devotion
And cascades pools on the ground and forms an ocean
Deca the bard the penman, deadpan
Solitary dreamer, watch the vision expand
There's no time for dogma an genuflection
The future is taking shape
Lessons in free expression
[Hook: voice samples]
Remember that language is power
I will, I will. I'll remember that
Where do we come from, who are we
And where are we going
Eternal questions never answered
[Chorus: Deca & voice samples]
God said
We'd be in trouble if we ate that fruit
Nameless soldier
Trying to get over
No peace
Show teeth hold a grudge
Find another soul to judge
No peace only blood
Nameless soldier
Exile driven out
Center drifting on a cloud
Wild child in a crowd
No peace
No peace only blood
Don't sleep show me love
Only blood
