- Doing a retro flashback shave today using a vintage original Gillette Sensor Excel. Gillette introduced the "Sensor Excel" in 1995, which has rubber-like fins intended to stretch the skin as the razor is pulled across the face. I’ve been using this one since 1997. Also using Obsession by Calvin Klein
Obsession for Men by Calvin Klein is an Amber Woody fragrance that was launched in 1986. I used it from the late 80’s and still use it on occasion today. Obsession and Eternity are my two favorite vintage fragrances.

Been using Gillette Sensor Excel for over 20 years and its the best ever.. i have also tried every new razor they come out with and they dont even come close to this classic.. also love the small head that gets into all those spots like under the nostrils..i will never change EVER

Hey Ken. I recently picked up a Sensor. That's what I started with, but I hadn't used one since the 90s. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the shave was.
I think these are harder to come by than the Atras and prior because they were all plastic, and nobody thought to save them.
I remember the ads for the Sensor/Excel. I wanted one so bad because the commercials were so good! It really didn't have to be all that good to shave my one whisker back then, but it handles a whole bunch of them now with ease.

Bought one just like yours with the case and all on EBay about 10 years ago. Gave $10 for it then. Bought the vintage NOS cartridges. These are very sharp and last. Never used it but since watched your video Ken I just had to break it out and do a shave with some vintage Old Spice soap. Wow, what a shave. Great video. 💈💈💈

I was born in 1985 and remember the adverts for this as a kid and getting one for my dad for father's day when i visited him. Razors seemed so cool in the 90s and the gillette sensor and excel always made me wish i was old enough to shave. By the time i was old enough it was the mach 3 era but it never felt as cool and stylish as the 90s sensor era. Still bummed that i missed that era.

I still have my Gillette Sensor from the 90's too. My case says "Gillette Sensor 3" on it tho. All tho i still just use the 2 blade Excel carts in it. I also have my original Mach 3 with a Mach 3 case. It's weird they don't do cases like that anymore. I mean it's cool to have a holder and be able to put your extra carts underneath. 😁👍🏼💈

Great shave. Funny enough, I was about to do a travel shave with a 1 blade disposable razor from Walgreens since I couldn’t bring a DE razor with me for safety reasons. I didn’t have to do that one, but that’s ok. I ended up dodging the first cartridge shave for the first time in forever, which was a blessing in disguise. Have a good one!

Of all the razors I have had I saved a sensor excel with the black marks. Probably purchased around 2005 when I started to shave maybe even prior. Found it in two second after seeing this video. I always remember this doing a nice job on my neck.

I also bought my sensor excel razor in 1996 when it came out, I remember in the add showcasing the rubber flaps that help lift up your bristles to facilitate with the shave. When I returned back to Greece to look for it I found it in terrible condition, it was stained with some kind of hair dye and one of the plastic holders where you fasten the razor head was snapped. Anyway, I'm using only de so didn't mind. Have a great day buddy👍

The Sensor Excel actually came out in 93. I remember that specifically because that was the year I turned 18, and it was the first "premium" razor I bought myself now that I was an "adult" after growing up using the Bic and Gillette Good News disposables that mom and dad had in the bathroom. Getting some serious nostalgia from this, and feeling like I need to go listen to some Ace of Base and chug down a couple Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers. 😂

Great shave Ken and food comas are real, bahahahaha. I don't remember the Gillette Sensor Excell or Sensor too much because Gillette's flagship razor back in the early to mid 90's was the Mach 3 series which is what I started with and I really enjoyed the turbo version which had lubrication coatings on the blades. I'm guessing that the Gillette Fusion proglides were released in the early 2000's.

Hey there Ken! Great flash back video! The Astra and Sensor Excel were my go to's during the 90's. As far as Obsession, I had it, but preferred Eternity back in the day. Like many, during Covid I got back into collecting colognes from my past. Originally I planned on getting 6. Brut, Old Spice, Halston Z24, The Baron, Quorum and Eternity. Well, 75 bottles later. Guess you could say that I jumped into the deep end. 😅
LSS, I did buy a bottle of Obsession about 3 years ago. I pulled it out and gave it a try after watching your video. I will say, even though it has been reformulated, like most vintage colognes due to regulations on oak moss, etc, it still packs a punch. I used 4 sprays, 2 on the neck and 2 on my chest. I could still smell it on my T Shirt days later when I did the wash. Works for me. 😊 It performed much better than most of the current formulations of the classic fragrances of yester year.
Fellow HB resident here. Well, until moving to Florida earlier this year. I blame you for getting me into wet shaving. Turning 61 on Sunday and had not used a DE razor before. 3 years later, I can't thank you enough. To me, such a better way to shave. I actually look forward to it now.

I went from the Atra to the sensor excel. The military moved me often. Around 2005 I found an old pack of my exel blades from the early years. There were much better than what I was buying at that time. I suspect the manufacturing was sent overseas and the quality dropped and wasn't noticed until I could compare them. Now I am a DE shaver.

Nice shave Ken. Man were getting old if 90’s is vintage. I know I used and Sensor for years but don’t recall if I upgraded to the Excel or not. Probably did when it got gross. Pretty after that had a Mach 3.

That EDT is strong uuuhh maybe good for winter usage not summer i bought one. oh you can extent the life of your cartridge, just look up " sharpening " your multiblade razor blades on youtube a few ways of doing it anyway great shaving video...stay safe, cheers Peter

I Bought a Gillette Sensor Excel Cartridge Razor i Bought it on Ebay For $22 it's An Older One Like Yours it only Came with The Razor Handle And it Came with Case But No Blades Refills Plus I have The Gillette Sensor 3 Refills And i have The Disposable razors of Gillette Sensor 3 So i can Take off those Refills and i Can use Them for my Gillette Sensor Excel Cartridge Razor 😊😊

The Sensor handle has the perfect lenght and curvature that allows for an efficient shave. I think handles like mach 3 and fusion are as good

Hello sir I'm from india. I'm 16 but still I have some beards which i don't like and my dermatologist suggested me shave my beards using gillete sensor excel. As you said this is a vintage and expensive razor so do i have modern and cheaper options with same or better quality to get baby smooth shave?
I would suggest if you are using a cartridge razor, the Gillette Mach 3 is a good choice. A DE razor might also work good for you. Pearl razors in India work really well👍👍
