@billionbear that's what I replied to him. In the f70 m135 same set up as f40 m135i but he can't compare the f40 and f70 with not mentioning there is different gearboxes
Probably go s3 out of the 3 as it actually looks abit more special and expensive. I’m a BMW man through and through so that tells you how impressed I am with that
@ haha be much the same as the last s3 or golf no doubt. I’ve been in a few hot golf’s and they are dam quick but, I won’t be swapping my RWD slightly tweaked m240i for 1. Unfortunately never driven 1 of the 4wd golf’s only tuned gti and gt tdi. Both were quite quick, dare I say it boring. Did have a quick go in a celica gt4 once before that was quite fun. Maybe it’s just me but, RWD just feels more natural to me and with an LSD to much fun! Think I would ignore all 3 of these hatch backs and go for the GR Yaris as it just seems more special less common. Or potentially its big brother maybe
@ I’ve had mine for 2 years and yes in the wet the rear can be sketchy but only around sharp corners ie round abouts.. if the interior is your preferred market that’s great, but for a true driving experience then the M140i is bang for your buck.
@ I purchased my M 140i new in 2019 and absolutely love it.I don’t use it on a daily basis now,13,000 miles on clock, but the new M135 is definitely a more secure drive in all weathers. It is a shame they are no longer able to fit B58 in new design.
Enjoyable review as as always Tim and I am curious about the M135. Seats and interior look great from my view. It is refreshing to see a car like this still being produced in 2024 🙏
A car like this still being made? They got rid of everything it stood for. It is basically like every other hatch back on the road. 2L 4 Cyl, no more RWD. Basically a more expensive GTI.
What they should have done for the M140 is keep the B58 and tune it a little higher to match the competitors, keep RWD but offer and xdrive like the US had for the previous gen. Have someone who isn't cross eyed design the exterior.
@LukeHolman-k3k personally the new m240i xdrive would have been the way I'd have gone if I wanted and needed a more practical daily driver, but as I don't anymore Z4 m40i was my choice
The last gearbox was the Aisin Toyota 8 speed. The DCT looks to be a better choice, the looks though they are subjective. Have a look at one with the M Performance kit on the BMW site. It looks alarmingly like the Focus RS Mk 3
See for me the problem with this car and ultimately its rivals is bang for buck. The S3 and Golf r all roughly fall into this cars price bracket all have high end high quality build and finish the only real difference is the power 333hp vs 300hp. Personally, if it were my money id want the extra power too just seems mad that everyone wouldn't 🤷♂️ And what's coming from a BMW owner? I'm on my 4th in a row
It would also be down to insurance, the golf r attends to unfortunately attract wrong owners meaning insurance for them is sky high in comparison .. also brand snobs would rather an Audi or bmw over vw
@GBFeb72 no but I have sat in the new S3 and your not going to tell me that's shite as you put it. So the same dilemma would exists, Audi hot hatch with 333hp or BMW hot hatch with 300hp 🤷♂️
@GBFeb72 enough for you to give away 33hp in performance. I guess until the inevitable group test takes place and ultimate sales of each car it's a personal choice
I’m a big bmw fan boy but it’s hard to see how this can compete with the Golf R and S3 for the money. Especially when an M2 6 months old with a couple of thousand miles is similar money to a specced up M135.
As a former M140i owner, for 4 years, taking it from standard to many upgraded parts, and tuned to 455bhp, this should have been my next logical progression. Ermm no thanks. If I wanted a clone FWD-based hatch I could buy any one of it's many rivals, and not notice the difference. I actually went to a slightly older car instead, and got an OG M2. Wow, it's a fantastic car, on another level to any of these M-lite/S3/A35 cones
Enjoy the review as always Tim. For me the finance dept evolution (mini platform, drive train) from m140i to the last two 1 series offerings, are such a disappointment. Now with added ford hyundai brush of blandness. The sound really comes across on your video. Nasty. Then again I'm a 140i owner, thankfully with the b58 and zf being available in the m240i sailing from mexico to me!
Yes Tim. Really like the front detailed seats. The panoramic power roof. Gearbox selector will grow in time. Nice review. Only gripe is the front end design.
I’d keep my F40 and wouldn’t choose any of them. All too over priced now for what they are. I had an m140i. Great engine compared to the F40. But as a daily driver the F40 beats it hands down in every other department. For those bemoaning the RWD etc… bmw had to make the switch financially for a multitude of reasons. So the argument, they should’ve kept a RWD bias AWD hatch wasn’t possible. Especially with the planning for future EV and keeping platforms consistent. The F40 still kept a lot of things BMW do well which is why I chose it over the golf R and S3 at the time. The interior is the best in class imo. Build quality and ergonomics. The fact they’ve removed the idrive is really disappointing. The f40 retained the angel eyes headlights which I love. The Aisin with the updates back end of ‘22 really improved and is a better shout than the DCT because it allows you to keep the extra 50Nm of torque which makes it a great daily with low down pull, and an 8th gear to improve economy. It’s also faster at changing down than the new DCT. The golf’s interior is pretty poor and pits me off. The Audi at 47k base price is a joke and the interior is also a step down again. I’m also not a fan of the exterior either.
@@bradofwar5960 we didn’t get the xdrive RWD version of the m140i in the UK. Though I’d struggle to see how just adding xdrive improves the chassis compared to the f40 which is just better and more nailed down all round compared to the f20
