Taylor follows his own rules or principles. He does not seem to give a Penalty, unless the offense clearly impeded a good opportunity to score and he's generally very forgiving with Yellow and Red cards too (and I like his refereeing style in the majority of the cases). I could understand and expect for him not to give penalties on handball offenses stopping a side-cross such as Roma's one, or even the penalty Germany was given against Demnark I`m sure Taylor would not give it... for me, rules should be changed and those instances should lead to a 2-touch free-kick at the spot where the offense took place, not a penalty (unless it was a fully intentional handball). But when the handball offense (intentional or not) stops a clear goal-bound shot and he refuses to give it, thats a bit too much in my opinion.

Penalty! Look for a video that shows the whole scene from the beginning and watch it frame by frame. When FÜllkrug plays the ball to Musiala, Cucurella goes down watching Musiala with both arms spread out. Just before Musiala plays the ball, he jumps up with wide arms and in the moment Musiala is playing the ball, Cucurellas right arm is already behind his back while his left arm is not! Imo he did it on purpose! Just my two cents....

and Musiala‘s shot was clear towards the goal. And i think the keeper had no chance to catch it. Its a shame, why do they have the VAR if they dont use it correctly.

Normally if the arm is pointing downwards towards the ground then a penalty is not given . In this case, Cucurrella is leaning over, so we have the ambiguous situation that his arm is pointing downwards but separate from his body at the same time. On the other hand, he involuntarily deflects a shot on goal. The ref interprets that his arm is in a natural position and it's involuntary. One of those cases where you can argue for and against, though another ref might have given a penalty. Fulkrug's possible offside should also have been VAR-checked, not least because there's also a current of opinion claiming he also used his upper arm to control the ball when it bounced. As for Kroos, several yellow-card tackles from him went unpunished. The tackle with which he injured Pedri was verging on the red. He also injured Fabian and stamped on Jamal's foot. Still, Kroos is a great player and it will be sad to see him go

Nonsense. It’s not about the arm pointing down. It’s about the arm is aligned and touches the body and is not moving far away from it through the air. The player bends his body to one side to block the shot and covers the other side with his arm. Foul. Penalty. Nothing else.

    • @rollingthunder9579

@@philkeh He doesn't lean over to block the shot, he's just off balance. And the UEFA rules do say that if an arm is " predominantly vertical", it's not a penalty...but, of course, as he's leaning over, gravity does pull his arm from his body, so you could also argue his body has become bigger. Basically, this whole controversy is the ref's fault: he should have checked VAR for possible handballs and offsides.

Everyone using the Offside as an excuse but the explanation was worse. The Offside wasn't even clear since the Spain Knee looks in line with Germany player.
The explanation was that it wasn't an intentional position of the hand. They have to stop making excuses to justify a decision or stop changing the rules every year.
It was clear before if you make your body larger with your hands its hand. The hand was extended and completely block the ball.
Or just go back to the basics either mark ANY hand in the area as penalty or mark hands as indirect free kick from inside the area. I don't know why they stop using that foul decision.

Republic of Games - you don’t know why Anthony Taylor didn’t give the penalty. It was wrong not to check it at this level of competition, but if you see the ref just brushed off any appeal and showed two hands pressed to his body. I assume from his angle he thought that Cucurella had both hands close to his body. Right hand yes, but left hand exactly placed to stop the ball. Best call was to check it and decide fair. If offside then offside, if handball directly in the line of a goal then give penalty.

That is a clear penalty since his hand obstructed the trajectory of a shot at goal. His hans where not on his side at the time of the shot, rather he had his arm extended and at the second the shot went off he lowered his hand towards his body, probably to tuck in his arm, but that motion made him BLOCK the shot WITH his HAND.
For anyone arguing there was a player offside before it was not called by the side line, and right before the shot that player might have been offside, but the ball was a shot at the goal and NOT a pass.
If that ball was not a goal and instead a rebound going to a german player, then yes its offside.
But this is textbook on what a penalty situation is all about, so clear even Stevie Wonder could see it and not wonder about it.

Where does the claim that “iT wAs oFfsiDe” even come from? That wasn’t even the official reason the handball wasn’t given. It wasn’t given because the referee didn’t evaluate it as an illegal hand contact. Also based on the TV pictures it actually looks like there was no offside from Fullkrug, but it is impossible to tell. Should have been checked during the game. Also the referee didn’t call offside, because if he had, Spain would have been granted an indirect free-kick, which wasn’t the case.

Anthony Taylor again and again and again. And again. There must be dozens of matches in the premier league and in international football decided by him. Guardiola, Klopp, Mourinho and many other coaches detest him.
In this match the most upsetting thing wasn’t even the penalty, but the bucket load of unnecessary yellow cards he handed out.
I don’t think the man is evil, but he is incompetent, and nowhere near the level you need to be to referee high end football matches. We have known this for many, many years. Why on earth is he, of all people, a UEFA referee? And is refereeing the most important matches of the competition? Trouble is guaranteed with him on the pitch.
Taylor should be sitting at home and enjoy the matches in front of TV, instead of ruining them for all of us.

That’s the most idiotic explanation ever. The arm was far away from the body. 45 degrees or something because the body is bent to one side to block the shot and the arm covers the other side. The arm increases the body shape significantly. If a shot on goal is blocked by an arm that is not touching the body but is loose in the air, it’s a penalty. Simple. This was a clear penalty. Ever seen defenders take their hands behind their back while defending a shot? Because if not and the arm is touching the ball, it’s penalty. Every child who plays football knows this. Taylor is just too arrogant and thinks he deserves to rule over common sense because he is so great.

Fullkrug is not offside rookie, arm doesnt count as we all know. The left knee of nº4 puts Fullkrug onside. It wasnt analysed because Anthony Taylor is sure of his decision which is wrong influenced by the angle of vision from the position that he is

If that was goal keeper they would have called it a good save. It was clear handball. Maybe not deliberate but if the ball is heading on target and gets stopped it's handball.

bottom line is it was a shot at goal. not a pass if there was an offside German player. arm was out a bit. ball hit right into it. seems like a total handball to me....only cuz i seen much less be called for handball.

IF this was not a PK, how did Netherlands get robbed of by England for a PK where Kane crashes his leg into defender of Netherlands not the other way round, it should have been a foul for Netherlands rather than a PK for England. And Kane got his kick all the way over the bar un blocked, he hit defenders legs long after ball has left and gone over the bar yet a PK is given . And before the kick, Saka handles the ball, if that hand all over the place is natural, that is ridiculous. Clearly England ref wants to bring it home and the only way if England reach finals was to make sure Germany dd not go through. Spain was the only competitive enough team which could possibly stop Germany juggernaut. So first he kills Germany defense with early yellow cards and when that is not enough starts denying PKs to Germany. One where Fullkrug is dragged down and other where Cucerella plays goalkeeper and blocks a clear goal and then deny the PK o top of it.

    Füllkrugs arm doesn't count outside.

That is handball, no argument. Only if corrupt officiating refs may be because Spa is the most vital team thus far trying to market a 16-year-old prodigy by having Spa go all the way. This turns people off football, and we hope the worst team ever assembled wins it; go, Eng!

And what about Messi's familiar move that he stands in an offside position but does not touch the ball? Instead the fans call it dribble without the ball, so It doesn't matter where fullkrug was standing, as long as he wasn't in a situation where he touches the ball when he is in an offside position

Worst referee on earth right now, should not be close to any sort of football field. Check out PL and Euro league matches. So Anthony, thanks a lot for destroying the great game of Germany and even the atmosphere of the whole Euro 24. This will cost millions.
