The Best Buell Motorcycle

  • Buell motorcycle company made a lot of different motorcycles over their short life span, and they were all great bikes, but which Buell motorcycle was the best? In this video review I show you my 2001 Buell M2 Cyclone motorcycle, which I think is the greatest Buell motorcycle ever made. The reason I like this Buell motorcycle more than all the others is because it is so comfortable, well-built, and easy to ride fast. It is the definition of a perfect standard all-around motorcycle.

I used to own 1996 M2 Cyclone. Went from London to Bari in Italy, accros the Adriatic sea to Bar in Montenegro, continued to my hometown in Northernn Serbia. Returned to England via Hungaru, Austria,Germany and Belgium. Upon arrival to the Blighty, spent close to 2K on service, worth every penny.Due to my stupidity and some other factors I sold it shortly afterwards for around 3K.This days they go for around 6-7K.Currently I ride a 990 R Superduke but the Buell was the bike of my life,a grunty, beautiful beast,so minimalistic, total class.

Thanks for posting. You’re making miss my 01 M2. I put about 40,000 miles on that bike and it was better when I let it go then when I got it. So easy to wrench on, but replacing the bar and shield belt was a pita. Keep on eye on your primary chain and use only screaming eagle in it unless you want a new stater. Your drive belt looked loose enough but it will break. Luckily the Buell replacement belt is solid. Oh and not only is it the best Buell, it may be the best motorcycle period.

I was the proud owner of a black Buell M2 Cyclone before I bought a X1 Lightning. The Lightning's looks and slightly more aggresive seating and riding was what I liked about it. Reliability wise however, the M2 always brought me home, with a smile. I still miss her some days. Buy one!

I'm a naked bike guy. My current bike is the new Kawi z900. (Highly recommend, smoothest inline four I've ever ridden) but a friend of mine had an M2 and I rode it for a while. I was impressed. It had a nice compact, solid feel. And yes, the engine smoothed out when you have it some throttle. Eric Buell is a forward thinker despite the use of the Harley motor. I met him in New York. The front brake with the perimeter rotor, underslung exhaust and shock. All ahead of their time. It's a shame HD cut him loose, they could use the help around now. Enjoy it and ride well.

I have a 2000 cyclone. Biggest improvement you can make is a steering dampener. Unfortunately I never installed one,,, it was on my list,, got into a tank slapper speed wobble and the bike folded up on itself. Basically destroyed the entire bike except the engine and frame. Rebuild is in the future because I love the bike that much. I will go with the inverted forks from the Thunderbolt and probably a steel swingarm in rear so I can run a wider tyre. And yes I have a six inch plate and twelve screws holding my shoulder together as a constant reminder that steering dampners are a brilliant invention.

I liked the smaller seat and lighter weight post 99 bikes. It was great at accelerating but at steady speeds it felt like the fueling kept searching for the right mix. I also had electrical gremlins that kept it from starting. @@hoohoohoblin I'm curious what extended maintenance that you believe the XB's need. I purchased my 03 XB9 Lightning new in 2005. It doesn't leak anything. The belt drive system was unique to 03 and had a relatively short replacement interval, but the idler pulley keeps the belt tensioned. I upgraded my drive to the later system so that it could run the later belts and so that I could fit the carbon fiber guards and covers. The underslung muffler, fuel in the frame and oil in the swingarm makes the bike very compact. I also appreciate that there are no spacers used on the axles to lose or mix up. For those who found it too compact, there were some Ss's, TT's and the Ulysses.
