Hey it’s me again. My year of employment is coming up next month. I went from being very stressed to enjoying it. The stress wasn’t from the work itself, but rather a trainer (who had no manager role), who seemed to prioritize speed over safety. I was feeling guilty that I couldn’t move an OV package to the rack in mere seconds. All leadership at my site has told me that I am doing very well. I actually went from disliking stow duties to liking it.

I appreciate this video. I am a new hire working graveyard. I only briefly did some stowing, only to find out I did it incorrectly. When I scanned the QR code package, and the bag QR code, since I heard beeps, I assumed that all was well. It wasn’t until 15 minutes later a training ambassador told me I didn’t scan correctly. Apparently I missed the confirmation chime from the Zebra scanner to let me know the packages were properly scanned.
I had extreme anxiety after my shift, and felt ashamed I messed up. Seeing you work in this video is helping. I know once I get more familiar with the task, it won’t be as daunting

    • @mikeeonfiya
      @mikeeonfiya Год назад +8

Have yourself a wonderful start to working at Amazon!
My shift is graveyard shift as well, 3:20 am - 8:50 am…..
but there’s VET to pre-sort from 1:45 am - 2:45 am; which ill always add.
Additionally, after we stow, there’s VET opportunity from 8:50 am - 11:50 am, for load out (LO)….aka Route Picking - for DSP drivers.
I hear ya on the zebra scan confirmation beep, it happens; a few times captured in this video and now I try to avoid it, by stabilizing the pkg/jiffy and using a finger scanner to precisely scan.
IMO: you need to be equipped with (1) zebra [that has volume working], (2) finger scanner, (3) phone/zebra holder wrist wrap.
These will make the job less prone to any accidental mistakes, and more importantly, oddly satisfying (once you start to flow with the work at hand, rather than feeling doom & gloom at the sight of hella boxes).
And make no mistake, everyone will mess up at one point or another, new hire or senior hire, and it’s ok; Amazon is like that, there will always be people to help…maybe your colleagues over the learning ambassadors.
I make mistakes too, like today I had 16x incorrectly stowed packages, because I forgot to scan it then scan the tote. So the pkg gets Stower but has no scan confirmation. This leads to an imbalance in the bags & also disrupts drivers route if they see a pkg that was misplaced from the bag next over in the row.
It happens when I handle multiple boxes, but not jiffys.
I started on Feb. 1st, I’m seasonal employee for low…at 25 hrs/week, and work has become enjoyable once you’ve become proficient at it, then you’ll advance to learn new positions.
So it’s like turning life into real life Tetris, I’m glad you got some value out of this video, FWIW it can serve as a guide to approach smart stow and keeping proper body mechanics.
Keep your head up, chest out…and handle it 🙏

@@mikeeonfiya Thank you so much. I had a talk with my boss on my last shift and she gave me some tips to make things go easier. One of the things about the trainers who teach new employees tend to skim things and leave others out. They kind of have this attitude of expecting new employees to be mind readers. My first night stowing, I was frustrated that the 2 QR codes in the stow bags wouldn't scan. The trainers didn't explain that there are extra QR codes on the rack itself next to the bag, on the outside of the bag on the left, and at the stow aisle entrance on a piece of paper. I felt like I was expected to be a mind reader and know about the alternate QR codes. My boss made me feel validated when she understood that I felt like I was expected to know everything that the trainers did not teach. I told her if I am supposed to work quickly and efficiently, I want to know the tips to do so.
When boxes and stow bags scan right the first time, I have fun. I gotta admit, it drives me crazy that the bottom shelves are #1 and the top shelves are #3. In my mind I want to count top to bottom, not bottom to top.

@@sladestone178 When you scan the package, you will hear a beep. When you scan the stow bag, you will hear a distinct chime. The orientation trainers did not explain this. I am finding my groove there, but the mind reading expected of new employees via the trainers was annoying. One example is that the stow bags need to be virtually opened (syncing the bag to the shelf) before you start scanning packages and stowing them. No one told me that, until I told a lane captain nothing scanned correctly. My supervisors are great. They like it when I have questions.

      Thats not standardized operations procedures.
You gotta voice up to a PA/AM stat and let them know.
Don’t risk it if you’re not equipped.
A bulging disc or herniated disc is waiting to happen if you start handling OV’s or any large package - without a stow cart
It doesn’t matter the weight, it’s bending down and getting up with the package.
This mechanism of injury (MOI) could happen to someone new, being rushed, etc.
If you were tired 20 mins into doing it - you gotta listen to your body and not work.
That’s negatively impacting your health and longevity.

I was questioning my existence every second while doing it. Realised its not my thing. I consider myself physically fit but, stowing really caused back pain, knee pain, everything just hurt and i was sweating so bad. They didnt even had stow with light option, so i had to revolve arround searching for the correct place, it gave me motion sickness. Show stow videos after lunch. I bet it ain't as smooth as it looks now. When I train new AA's I train them flat library style to save top room for off-style jiffys such as pill bottles and such. Delivery Station in my honest opinion, my buddy that I carpool with everyday came from a FC before meeting me at the DS.
He absolutely dreaded his job at FC. It was a nightmare to him. Not fun, not mentally stimulating, nothing good from him hat he tells me.
Objectively, both sites obviously have pros and cons, but at DS - the job is far less mundane, you aren’t stationary the whole shift. DS stowing is oddly satisfying once you’re proficient. Labor tracking isn’t a big deal. Time off task isn’t discussed at all.
FWIW I get 18k steps on average, and I’ve lost 10 lbs of fat, so at a DS that can be a perk; you can get lean! I.e., physiological perspective, you’re burning calories via stored carbs and fat in your body (glycolysis and lipolysis).
Every site is different but I hope you end up at a DS and enjoy it as much as I do.

DS for sure. My homie at work came from FC and enjoys DS more.
      Confluences:
      - constant walking, never stationary
      - less than 10 hours, regular blue badge do 8 hrs or seasonal it is 5.5 hrs
      - most are night shifts 3am - 9am (it’s the busiest time), easier tasks afterward
      - less emphasis on labor tracking and rates, more on safety (e.g., no screen displaying a timer)
      - night shift is a rush with loud speakers, so nobody is really tired in a daze, crack jokes and it’s lively
      - switching tasks, having variation in work, so you’re not doing the same thing over and over for 10 hours.
      (e.g.,
      - pick to buffer rack to start; switch and end with pick to route
      - stow to start, switch and end with pick route
      - water spider to start, switch and end with pick to route, or switch and end with folding back the go-karts into trucks to be sent back to FC
      )

1600 pkgs is a lot, your true rate should be higher since there is inferred time from breaks, after shift (still ticks until you switch from Stow to P2B on the Zebra). Well done dude.
My 1,520 total while ranked 1 out of 54 rate was 320/pph.
I try avoid inferred time at all cost and always ask the PA what my stats are during first break, lunch break, and after shift before P2B.
Something I did later on was during break, I cleared my buffer rack and put the pkgs next to the totes per designated A-G. I put OV’s where they go on the ground. I did this to all of my aisles.
When the alarm rings after break and the timer resumes, I can easily scan and stow those pkgs to up my rate.
I don’t see anything wrong with competing against yourself. 8/10 people will say “take it easy just go at your own pace.”

Idk about you, but on the daily step count my iwatch ultra averages out 25k steps for days of either stowing, unloading, non con, water spider, and pick and stage at the end.
So 5 days gets me to 135k steps, or around 66 miles of walking.

Amazon doesn’t need to provide knee pads or a back brace, you can do a lunge or golfer’s pickup for lower items.
Are you not agile or flexible enough to do that?
I have a newer video uploaded to show that stowing with full buffers. And I’m rotating on the dock unloading. It doesn’t get any harder stowing at 350+ and unloading 5k+ from 320-830am.

DA here. Can you guys please load the first zones oversize last so I can grab from the top of the cart when I'm loading my van so I don't have to disassemble the cart and waste time sorting it myself. After pulling out carts out of the warehouse to the vans, and after loading my totes. I have about 10-12 minutes to load the oversize, and it's stressful when I have to disassemble the carts looking for the first zone I need.

Hey man, I’m sorry you encounter bad stow/route picking etiquette.
I have only begun to start load out and route picking, since I’m part time and seasonal.

    • @RainbowManification
      @RainbowManification Год назад +1

@@mikeeonfiya I know you probably can't do anything about this but on some routes the zone codes overlap so there will be for example a 3-1A zone code near the beginning of the route and a 5-1A near the end. This is confusing during load out and it's not uncommon to sort several oversize incorrectly leading to lost time looking for it in the van during the route.
