This might be the most J-Hope song I've ever heard in my life. Big Hit couldn't have done a better job matching each comeback trailer song to their respective rapper. RM and Persona, Suga and Shadow, and now Hobi with Ego. They did the same with the vocalists and their respective comeback trailers for the Love Yourself series as well. Big Hit and BTS truly have an unrivaled symbiotic relationship. And people still ask, "How did BTS get so big? How did they do it?" They check every box you could think of, and then continue to check boxes no one else even thought of b/c they still focus on the little nuances.

Ego was directed by Lumpens (their usual MV director) but Shadow was directed by OUI Kim (who directed Yoongi's Agust D and Give It To Me)
It surprised me that OUI Kim did Shadow. I thought it was Lumpens. Cmiww, Lumpens had best themselves by not having particular style. Run, DNA, Idol, Blackswan art film, it was amazing knowing it was coming from this company.
I think, it is impossible to find a bad song from BTS. Because they really cautious on what they release always. They won't let a song released if the production quality is not good. It just personal preference of listener on songs they release - either you like the music style or not.

I watched this when you did it live, and it was great holding my breath with everyone. 😆 I have to agree with what some said to you, that it can take a second or third listen to really, REALLY get into it. I liked it fine at first, but the more I’ve heard it the more I’ve liked it. I really dig the piano-as-bass-in-house-music...very possibly because I play the piano. But also because it switches it up.

That's definitely the opposite of me 🤣 Im not a dark person tho, it's just that they're dark songs are really, mostly, artistic in a way as they should, Im not saying the rest are not just male it clear. But I love their songs right after I listen to it, they're all bop and not in the same tune and genre that's why they really sound different from each other.

Shadow is the kind of dark song which I like. I didn't expect Ego to be this uplifting but the lyrics that Hobi wrote was deep too. You need to give this song a few listen to like it. It will change your mood and make you dance along with the music. Is different from a kpop or BTSpop song.

I noticed that you barely did anything but blink through the whole thing, so I was really waiting in suspense to see what you thought! It struck me on my first listen that this was an ABRUPT 180 from the darkness of Shadow and Black Swan. I think I was ready for more that that deep self stuff.
The more I listent to the song, the more I like it, and the more it makes sense in the context of the Map of the Soul. This is Jung's Ego, which is basically our self-image. It's not shallow, exactly, but it's our conscious self that's behind the mask of the Persona, unaware of or fighting against the Shadow. So the lightness of the song, which still giving a personal peek at Hobi, it's still just who he thinks he is, without going into those darker depths.

I agree, you have to respect the quality of every genre, you can't dismiss music because of preconceptions. I grew up listening mostly to rock and indie music, I'm a huge fan of Thom Yorke but I don't expect everything good to sound the same, and that's the reason I gave myself the permission to listen to bts and enjoy the music so much. Imho everybody would be so much happier if they didn't deprive themself of good music only because 'it's not their style'
I really like how it brought us back to their debut trailer to today. Being ARMY aside, the thought/forethought and attention to detail that BTS/Big Hit brings is top notch. NO ONE has done/is doing what BTS has done/is doing. We go nuts because they bring us for the ride in all they do. Did you see the shout out to ARMY? Several times throughout the video.
