  • In this segment I describe the matching to sample procedure and it's variant, the symbolic matching task. I then describe how the symbolic matching task is relevant to the establishment of a stimulus equivalence class, which is a critical feature of learning the meaning of words and building vocabulary. I also discuss how equivalence training results in the learning of emergent relations.

Is the concept of stimilus equivalence related to Relational Frame Theory?

It is at some level, Stimulus equivalence is an empirical phenomenon; RFT is a behavioral theory about how that phenomenon (and other phenomena) comes about

How would this work with abstract concepts?

Garden, I think it would work the same way, but it would not be only one stimulus apart from the real world (like apple figura apple) and yes lots of stimulus including words relating to each other.
