Thanks for straight forward realistic owner review. I have '21 Sport. So, far I had no issues other that finally my fakra cables started causing screen rebooting right on Christmas evening but it was taken care of 3 days later by Honda under recall. Space is great and it actually shocked my spouse that I was able to load all the big, long ski bags with multiple pairs along with ski benches and other bags that normally we would need our old Suburban for after our Van and Suburban batteries went totally dead and would not start with jumper ( Passport saved the day). It has more door cubbies that I will ever need, it fits my dog's Ruff Land kennel and still has space for other bags, it performs great on snow and ice with snow tires (most AWD suck in winter condition compare to Passport), It has great acceleration and breaking and it has paddle shifters (which I still have to learn how to use lol), it doesn't kill my wallet because I drive under 6000 miles a year which was working against getting Hybrid vehicle that needs more driving in order to keep battery healthy. It doesn't have many alignment issues, and it has good visibility. I love that I have bench seats Things that I don't like are: lane departure has steering shaking that is too harsh ( I wish there was adjustment to gentle) so I turned it off, I don't use cruise control that many people complained about, so can't speak on that subject. I have not experienced sudden breaking by collision mitigation as some people, so I am not sure if I am lucky or some models have that issue. I dislike, like you, button shifters, 2 years later I am still not a fan and have to look. I hate that you need special tool for over $200 to put the car in neutral if car dies and has to be towed and you need to make sure that car is on flat bed because no towing company is going to have Honda tool other than Honda. Poor visibility of wiper adjustment that forces me to lean over the steering to see ( that whole arm should be angled up higher).
Thank you for sharing all of your great info! I was wondering what I have to do to put it in neutral and now I know. I have roadside assistance for 3 years and my extra warranty that I bought covers it for an additional 2. I do like the vehicle other than the minor fit and finish issues.

I just got a black edition last week and what you say about the fit and trim is very true. The piece on the tailgate that I think houses the backup camera was not installed properly and came off partially. The dealer was nice enough to put one from their new inventory on my car. Since you pay so much for these things I don't think I'll be doing any off roading other than a gravel road every now and then. It is nice to know that system will over heat though. Before this I had a 23 Atlas Cross Sport and this has more power, more comfortable seats, and a transmission that isn't all over the place. The Atlas handled a little better in that the steering was very tight whereas this is kind of loose. I'm still very pleased with mine compared to the Atlas and would recommend the Passport. I also am glad I got it because I think we are seeing the end of V6 engines in the mid priced mid sized SUV's
Thank you for the review. I like my 2012 Pilot, but it's getting to the age where it's in the repair shop more frequently. So I've been looking online at the 2022-2024 Pilot, Passport, and CRV. The lack of a standard trailer hitch is a big disappointment, as well as towing capacity. I've decided to hang on to the 2012 Pilot for a while longer.
Sorry to hear about the fit and finish of your Passport. I have the 2019 Passport Elite and the fit and finish is very good. Maybe I got lucky or maybe they wanted to make a good first impression. I also have driven my first 10 vehicles with a stick shifter but I have no problems with the push button version. Overall I am happy with my purchase and I hope you also have many years of driving pleasure.
Yeah, the hatch is the only thing that I need to really have addressed. I buy vehicles anymore knowing that they are basically depreciating appliances and where I live it’s gonna get dinged, backed into and hopefully not totaled but I bought it hoping for long term ownership because if fits my needs and is so damn fun to drive so I’m also hoping to get many years out of it.
Just picked up a Black Edition, and it’s great. Yeah same panel and trunk gap. I noticed the passenger column gap before watching your video , but missed the trunk framing till you pointed it out. Do you think could be a problem later on? I agree the shifter is taking some time getting used to. I do wish that the side mirrors would close when parking and open up at start up atomically. My old ‘06 Maxima had that feature. Over all happy with the Passport
I test drove the Black Edition and if my lifestyle didn’t require something a bit more rugged I would have gone with your trim or bought a lower trim Pilot. The issues you could develop when a hatch that’s off center could be water leakage (if it survives an auto car wash you should be fine), wind noise from a poor seal or the door could overlap the frame and scratch or dent the top of the bumper or side of the vehicle and simply not close. My guess is that the mount is sturdy enough it won’t move but we will see how that turns out. Thanks for watching!
I’m disappointed that they plan to put the new engine in the 2025 Passport. I want the tried and true VTEC 6, not a new, untested engine. Appreciate the review.
I agree. That SOC V6 in the Passport is one of only two of the last of the rock solid old school 6cyl engines out there. The Toyota 4 Runner still has one but with a 5 or 6 speed transmission and it will be gone next year for a 4cyl turbo. The new Honda DOC for 2025 Passport is a very different engine built by Honda specifically to meet EPA out to 2030 not for reliability or consumer improvements. Both the Honda 9 and 10 speed transmissions have significant issues with poor unreliable shifting Honda can't figure out. There is a class action lawsuit on the 9 speed. The EPA is destroying the automobile market. The Passport with the SOC and a solid reliable transmission would be a timeless work of art in this market. At least Honda is one of the few sticking with a 6cyl and not going to turbo 4cyl.

We will all be buying girlie battery driven cars in 5 years to satisfy a small handful of people in Washington who make enough money they could not care less.
All the positives I agree, all the negatives I agree with some. MPG it’s a V6 not a turbo 4. I’m okay with it. Towing is great. A 2.0T can’t tow that much. 4 adults and one Hobbit in the seats. We are an Audi family so fit and finish drives me nuts but the dogs ride in this so I’m ok. I have 2024 Blk Edition If I wanted an off roader I would have gone to a Forerunner. Great car, lots of room and a V6 with no CVT. Wife and I and 2 weens. Don’t need three rows at all!
My wife and I have the 2024 Passport Elite and have concerns on why the car rolls back when you are stopped on a hill when you take your foot off the break. We have never experienced this with any other vehicles. Also, when car is in park on a flat surface it can easily be rolled back and forth. Doesn’t seem normal. Anyone else experience these issues. Dealership insists that is normal.
I am seriously considering a 2025 (curent gen) Trailsport. The Pilot is too big for us. Torn between current gen and waiting for the new one (will be a 2026) to come out. The new DOHC is untested and it will take a good 2-3 years for Honda to get the kinks worked out (I'm still hearing about issues with the new Pilot). That being said, my biggest concern about the current gen is road noise since it purportedly has less sound dampening that the other more updated Honda offerings. Can you comment on road noise and perhaps how it stacks up with the competition?

Your loss. Our 2020 Honda Passport *Elite AWD is the best/comfortable road trip car to boot. With only one fit and finish item that was resolved under warranty. That being the rear passenger door outside plastic trim became loose and misaligned. I also swapped out those awful stock 20" wheels and tires for Toyo Tire Open Country ATIII 255/60R18's on black 18x8 Honda Ridgline HPD wheels. While also having the factory tow hitch and trans. cooler installed within a year of buying the car for under $1.2k OTD. I had acess to wholesale dealer parts through a friend + a 15% discount. In mid 2024, she's still getting 24-25mpg on highway, 17-19+ city. - My wife gets the lower mpg. It tows our 2023 Forest River Flagstaff T12RBST (A-frame TT, 3k#'s wet) without issue. Safely and again, comfortably. The setup looks great in our (allegedly) rare Black Copper Pearl (BCP) color. It handles every kind of weather from the Eastern Sierra rain/snow/ice down to our local Pismo/Oceano sand dunes, like a champ. My favorite driving location is on forest roads and this proven AWD makes it a breeze. If you can buy an Elite model for say under $35k OTD (Elite), it's a no brainer buy. Those type deals should be coming back soon. With my swap of wheels and tires, I essentially made us a better than Trailsport version (due to the included "Elite" model options). *Elite model has 540w nice stereo (only the Touring trim can get it as well), perforated heated/cooled front seats and perforated heated rear seats. Enhanced rain-sensing wipers, automatically dim and fold side mirrors. Plus a couple other minor optioned upgrades.
Confirming fit and finish in Honda’s have been declining for decades. Passport is a good example, especially panels and moldings (and any plastic externally).

I always love the look of the boxier older Pilots and am glad they went back to that. But I may wait and see on the 2025 Passport as we don't really need the third row.

Check out johndzadventuring to see what his pp can do off-road with oem awd … watched him for years and he’s never complained about overheating despite some pretty gnarly offroad stuff. I have a 2020 the fit finish is pretty good. Shifter falls short in so many ways haha. The all black interior is really really boring and hot. Super solid car
Shopped 22 23 models. Love Honda drive quality, but they are behind. Crazy that new Pilot only comes with v6 ice, no hybrid or plug in hybrid. Sames goes for Passport.
While I am interested in the redesign and I know the 2025 will probably be more off road capable, I was at a point where I was ready to trade in my Kona and the dealer was willing to give me high book trade in on it. Throw in an aging family that I am increasingly assist with transportation and I just didn’t wanna wait another year.

So how do you go through the car wash where they want you to put it in neutral to be fed through the wash?

Yeah, turbo 4s seem to be the new standard. The V6 in our Passports a so damn nice I would hate to go with anything else.

I wanted a Silverado but even a basic 4 door LT with a V8 was about 10K more than what I wanted to spend. I still love trucks though.

Just bought a 2024 Passport EX-L. Same fit/finish issues… disappointing since it's an expensive car.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that across the board. I’m surprised it passed several levels of final inspection.
Same here as well; we'll keep the vehicle but the fit/finish is disappointing.
Just the shift buttons is a no go.
