Akashi has a really amazing story arc in this show. Basketball was his only escape from his Dad's control, and reminded him of his mom and how kind she was. Then he met the GoM and really started to form friendships with them, but when they all started getting better he was afraid he would lose all of that. So the "Emperor" personality was born so he could keep playing basketball for his mom, and so that his friends wouldn't leave him behind. But over the years he forgot what he was winning for, but in this one game, Kuroko reminded him why he started fighting in the first place.
That's why I love this show. Sure it's a little over-the-top, but the story is amazing. It's almost as if Kuroko is one-by-one reminding the GoM why they started playing Basketball in the first place, because they had all forgot after being unchallenged for so long.
He wasnt playing for his mom only, when he says he lost sight of why he wanted to be stronger you can see a flashy scene of his teammates, he was focused on win because he really appreciated the GoM guys and wanted to keep being friends and avoid being left behind
Akashi was trying to keep the team together by winning, since he was taught that as long as you win, everything will be good. I like both versions of him, since Akashi is really the sum of these two parts.
I recall a funny bit in the fanbook where Kuroko goes around interviewing the other characters, and he asked good Akashi what was his own favorite line from the series, and Akashi was like "what a terrible thing to ask. .......... 'zu ga takai zo'."

@@AyakaAkira31 yes, he did
This is why he's our emperor. Not just because of "Emperor Eye", but because of his whole backstory, why he became the emperor, and what he was originally fighting for. Akashi is definitely my top GOM without a doubt.
Couldn't agree more
Without a doubt

Izuki’s behind the back pass into kuroko’s ignite pass Kai doesn’t get enough hype! It was sick!
Izuki is so underrated
Lol the sudden animation upgrade when Izuki handled the ball, you know a top 5 play of the week is coming.
@@rexarsenio9447 It looked straight up like rotoscoped it's so smooooth
That animation where Izuki ran and dribbled the ball and then the back pass to Kuroko was so sick 👍
Izuku made the sickest pass this episode! The animation of that pass, into ignite pass into dunk was straight fire!
I still smile at that akaashi smile at the end

@@間人-x3v LooooL that’s true . Two complete different characters
Finally you've got to see Akashi's story, one of the most interesting stories of this anime. A story of a man who since childhood was expected to perform flawlessly at everything he did and no less.
"Winners are in the right and losers are disregarded". This way of thinking which was hammered home to him since childhood may seem a complete bullshit to us but ironically that's exactly what happened to him.
Until everybody's blossom of talents his personal qualities were enough to earn respect of the people around. You may have noticed that before the awakening of the Emperor Eye he wasn't immensely strong. He was talented but didn't have anything superhuman. He did not shine like Aomine and was basically just a good point guard, yet they all respected him for his intellect and strong personality. But as soon as he was no longer stronger, Murasakibara started disregarding him. That one moment confirmed all the ruthless ideals his family had lived by, which he tried not to give in to before. Akashi gave it all in that one-on-one but it still wasn't enough. He was at the brink of losing, and then he really got afraid of being left behind. And when the real self didn't know what to do anymore, the Emperor appeared and took the situation into his own hands.
When Kuroko outsmarted him, the Emperor's perfect control was shattered, which let the real Akashi, who has been pushed aside since his "failure", realise that it was not him that was weak, but the Emperor.
Can't wait for you to see what the real Akashi's like. And do watch the 75.5 OVA "The best present", as there is more of him.

FASTEST CLICK OF MY LIFE, BABY

Fastest click 👍🏼
He just wanted to continue & cherish the memento his mother left him in any ways possible even if it meant going down the dark path. "I am Akashi seijirou" The difference when kuroko asked him during teiko and now in the present. The real akashi is here.
I wanna point out how he also kind of says that he wanted to be stronger so he can play ball with his friends. Kagami is my boi but Akashi has a special place in my heart
In the anime there is something quite important that is missing. Actually the real Akashi would have been able to come back long ago, however he knew that his other personality, the emperor, needed taste defeat to lose his obsession for victory, so it would have merely been a swap. Knowing this, the real Akashi chose to not return and thought how the Emperor would have lost and then he thought that his Teiko teammates could have been able to do it and so he chose to trust his former comrade to be able to beat his other personality, this way he could finally learn the lesson. The real Akashi wanted to stay behind the curtain until Seirin would have won after Kagami and Kuroko blocked the emperor, however he cannot restrain his will ot play Kuroko and, in some way, he doesn't want his other personality to suffer that much, and so he has taken over and came back to play.
well, that 2nd door zone and kuroko's quasi emperor eye is a plot armor itself but im still thankful they beat the emperor akashi, they awaken the real one and i love akashi much more because of that
I cant wait for next episode a.k.a. best episode in the whole series

I now think lax understands why we love Akashi so much😂😂
Akashi legit just had a self-therapy session.

don't forget to watch the "last movie" after.

He already did
You’re literally the best reactor I love your reactions it literally is like I’m watching the show again so I can’t thank you enough, hope you enjoyed kuroko as much as I did. 😇
While Kuroko's "Quasi-Emperor eye" has a precedent with things like reading his foes and the Kirisaki Daichi Game it still feels like it shouldn't have worked, specially on Akashi.
I mean, in his flashback with Aomine he could read Aomine's fake but couldn't intercept him because of a difference of skills, so how he managed to do it to Akashi, that was in the ZONE and has the established field of view akin to Eagle/Hawk eye?
This and the "true zone" are the biggest pet peeves I have with this game but overall I don't feel like it sour the whole experience if only because of the "true Akashi" part if it.
See, the heart of the issue is that Akashi wasn't taught to process his emotions in a healthy way.
For starters his upbring was harsh, overloading him with expectations and responsabilities since he was young, his mom was the only person as far as it shows that cared about his well being and being a positive figure in his life.
Then, when he lost her he wasn't even given the space and time to properly grieve, he was thrust back to being "perfect" straight away, the only difference now is that his mom was no longer there to give him a respite.
The GoMs are probably Akashi's first friends and also the first positive human interaction after his mom's passing so it's no wonder he treasures their bond so much and also why when everything started to fall apart he took it so hard.
Another problem was his shitty father teaching this stupid notion that "Winners are in the right and Loses are disregarded"
Aka "If you don't win you will lose everything"
And this sadly came into play when everything was going south, be it because of the equaly shit Director of Teiko giving them special treatment for the sake of "winning" and "profit" or because of what happened to Aomine and Murasakibara.
Specially Murasakibara because that was the nail in the coffin when he came at Akashi saying that he won't listen to him anymore because he didn't think he was stronger than him and him reinforcing that he will do whatever he wants before he would score the last point.
That just reinforced the dumb crap his father shoved in his head and confirmed his fears, so he tried to keep everything from falling apart the only way he was taught to: By being "perfect" and "above others"
I think the quasi emperor eye worked because akashi focus was on mainly kagami . Tetsu only predicted kagami movement ( not akashi 's movement . And it does make sense with how much kuroko and kagami has trained together ) to get the block . It was a surprise to akashi because he didn't think tetsu with predict kagami movement
Akashi thoughts are mostly on predictions ( when he felt he had the wrong prediction he froze . Because as we know he felt he was never wrong until now ) . Akashi doesn't have the same reflexes as aomine
@@spiderhulk26 I would find it more believable if things like him avoiding Kimura's Screen while his focus was on Midorima didn't happen.
Or that it was established that he does not have the range if he has to overfocus on the person in front of him.
Even if that happened the other part of the problem is whether Kuroko would be qualified to stop him in the first place.
I think Akashi is as fast as Aomine but even if he wasn't as fast we saw how insanely overwhelming they become while in the Zone, nobody could keep up with them unless they were also in the Zone.
His reaction time, focus and speed skyrocket so I find it hard to believe that Kuroko could keep up with both Kagami's and Akashi's speed while both are in the ZONE.
(The only person I could believe keeping up with them is Teppei and that's only because of him being an Uncrowned King)
Tetsu react as soon as kagami made the step before akashi did ankle breaker . Which is not as fast as we think . Kagami only made 1 step to the right which baited akashi 's prediction
When i said didn't have the same reflexes as aomine I meant as he made the wrong prediction he froze
I hope my boy right here have an animation intro, he deserve that. I wish i could make one, but im talentless damn it.. good content and reaction btw, lovin'it
In English, the difference of Akashi's first person(call himself) between "boku" and "ore" can't be expressed.
Ohhh never thought of that, if i was japanese i would really caught that detail
5:42 his reaction is priceless.
Emperor got benched and Akashi subbed in :D
I think you will going to like this akashi more because this is the real one
Just want to address why Akashi did not intervene GoM's 111:11 propose during their last middle school game with Kuroko's friend.
Akashi, as this episode had shown, ultimately wanted to be able to keep his friends together. He felt like he was being left behind by his friends growing monsterous talents and was afraid they wouldn't be his friend anymore if he became perceived as weak. He got this outlook from his dad draconian upbringing, he needed to win at everything just to be validated.
Hence, he went along with the 111:11 plan. Because it's how the team was operating (caring only about themselves) and that it was the only way Akashi knew that could keep his friend to continue being his friend and validate him. Also, take into account that his dominant personality that prioritised winning, and winning only, played into the decision too.
With the absolute self of Akashi being presented at that moment, of course he couldn't care less what Kuroko's want. It's only his victory and validation that matter.
That's why when Kuroko confronted him, Akashi retaliated and said along the line of "are you giving out priviledge only to your friend despite the fact that we've been crushing other people like crazy this whole time?" Because Akashi was also prioritising his GoM friends' feelings over some unknown Kuroko's acquaintance as well, as bad as it might be. Akashi was afraid of losing his friends trust and respect too.
If the real Akashi were there instead of this absolute self, he might have rejected Kise and the team's propose to crush Kuroko's friend and able to withstand the team's dissatisfaction. But with the self that was born and justified it's existence by only winning, tangible achievements, and ego trip being in control; Akashi ultimately agreed with the plan.
It's a parallel. Kuroko was keeping his friend close by the promise to play together again. Akashi, on the other hand, was keeping his friend close by playing to together with them too, but in a toxic tyrant way.
Does this excuse Akashi behaviour? No. It's still pretty assholery. But that's the reason why people like his character because his struggle to keep his close ones from leaving him by keeping a strong facade, despite it being toxic can be relatable.
That's why in the end, it's Kuroko's basketball that overcomes Akashi selfish basketball and teach him that real strength and healthy relationships happen when you reach out and be vulnerable with your close ones.
Ain't nobody got time to read all that

Emperor Eye Akashi has always been the devil on regular Akashi's shoulder. I feel his character does represent the deep duality within every human. And how pressure brought about by society be it parents, friends or strangers can slowly change you from who you really are. Eventually the mask we created to appease the outside world starts to fall apart when your spirit yearns to live authentically. Would explain why people have mental breakdowns and freak outs and psychotic episodes. Although their righteous anger should be directed towards changing their lives and not hurting others. Otherwise the belly of the beast wins and boom you are another crime statistic.
