My mother, a homemaker, fed us boiled aloo ki dry sabzi with namak, haldi, dhaniya powder, no onions, garlic or masalas, everyday, throughout our school life because she hated cooking & housework. All the many vegetables my dad brought in bulk on Sundays, were only made partly for him & her for lunch. The rest were given to the maid. My dad never knew that our school tiffins always had roti & aloo ki sabzi everyday. Our classmates used to say, "iskey dabbey may toh wahi rahega, aloo ki sabzi". It was only at 15-16 yrs age, when my Biology teacher commented on my pallor and was told by my classmates about the contents of my tiffin everyday, since years, that she advised me to take matters in hand, along with my sisters and start making & having vegetables, pulses, daal, salad, every day.
