Thank you for this, My family is descendant of Pedro de Alpicat who aided in the conquest of Valencia and its nice to know more about the king we fought for.
Is a curious foreigners behaviour the history of Spain is a very underated and minusvalorated or joke for múltiple reasons ineptitude; xenophobia ; no known real history or the 3 optións .
My ancestors, through my paternal grandmother, were dukes and nobles of the Kingdom of Bosnia (though we did have one of ours as the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Sultan). My other ancestors, through my maternal grandmother, were cossacks in Russian lands. How about we join forces and go on a little Crusade?
I've been playing Medieval Total War 2 Crusades campaign and I've been watching your videos as I go along; I'm playing as the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Your videos are complementing it nicely, I'm learning a lot
THANK YOU! I watched the rest of your videos, and let me say you are doing an excellent job. I cannot tell you how many people have these fantasies about the crusades, its good to see a voice of reason. You keep making these and I'll keep watching them, again, thank you.
Fascinating presentation! That was especially sensitive for a strong and fearless warrior to be patient with a mother bird and her chicks - which was likely an expression of his respect for human mothers and their children.
There is an story in my town, Ulldecona: James the first established his HQ in my town before his crusade for València. He said he won’t cross back the Senia’s river until he conquered all València. Sadly he had to cross the river to go to Barcelona.
My grandmothers maiden last name was Alcala .. it originated in the kingdom of Aragon we believe James to be cousins with my ancestors before the Spanish conquest happened (of course) due to genealogy records. How cool!
Real Crusades History Great video. I hope you don’t mind I plagiarized the hell out of it as I wrote about James I on my Facebook page. My family needs to see this.

The kings of the reign of Aragon were Aragonese, later when the daughter of Ramiro II "the monk" Petronila became the wife of the count of Barcelona Ramón Berenguer IV their sons became kings of the Crown of Aragon and counts of Barcelona.
An ancestor of mine...He is my 21st Great Grandfather...through Lebron, Acosta, Quinones, Martinez families...My ancestors were involved in the governing of "New World"...
I can't believe James really thought so fondly of Innocent III, given the circumstances of his father's death, fighting against the Albigensian Crusaders. A bit of necessary political flattery maybe? I see some of this footage is of neo-Templars having a ritual at Rosslyn Chapel, btw (a building that actually has no Templar connection). These neo-Templar types were just leaving after a night ritual when I visited the chapel once, having arrived very early in the morning.
It'l be interenting a new video about the Spanish "almogávares" and their leader Roger de Flor: farmers and shepherds originating from the countryside, woods and frontier mountain áreas employed as mercenaries in Reconquista, against the Frenchs in Sicily, and against the Turks in Holy Land. They were a very cheap troops because didn't need rear support: they could eat roots and hunt rabbits, and be hidden into the Woods, waiting for the timely moment. But in the battle field they're capable to smash even aristocratic knights! Almogávares created a State for the King of Aragón in Greece. That the reason because Athems became a territory of the Spanish empire, an the Kings of Spain are Dukes of Athems and Dukes of Neopatria today.
