I wasn’t sure either. Normally I don’t incubate cracked eggs, but my broody Momma duck started these and when candling I noticed the cracks. There were a bunch of suggestions online, but the masking tape was done by a conservation group so I decided to trust their expertise. Thanks for the subscription! I’ll be sure to check out your channel too!!!
Do you by chance know anything by parakeet eggs? I found one it's very close to hatching but it cracked I was seeing maybe covering the hole with nail glue is OK but i feel it would be toxic to the chick
The cracks I have are discovered day 18. Ducks are active and cracks are not over air sac. Any suggestions? Tape versus candle wax? Because it’s on the dark part I can’t tell if cracks go all the way through.. plz help!
Hey thank you for your videos they are great! I have a couple of questions if you know the answers to them that would be great :) im using a small incubator which has the eggs in sitting point up instead of laying on their side, do i still flip them 4 times a day and do i need to take them out ar any point to breath? Many thanks for your help!
I've never heard of incubating on the end vs side (my only concern would be the air sac, not sure if that would be affected). But I did read once not to flip them and to always roll which makes me think you should probably put them on their sides. I normally roll the eggs more in the beginning and after a few days I switch to morning and night. I never take them out to "breathe" since they are breathing fine as long as the humidity is in a healthy range, however duck eggs can safely cool down for 10 minutes or so without hurting the eggs. I normally just turn them and put the cover right back on and I've never had any issues.
You should put eggs points down because they form facing towards the big side, you should stop rotating them three days from hatching and put on their side. Hope this helps 🤠
Hello I am currently trying to hatch a duck bc I think there adorable. What’s the best temperature to hatch them at and how long do they take until it’s a clear notice that if there fretial or not? Xxrose
99.5 F for ducks for 28 days...turning regularly. Because of their size, I turn them manually. By Day 5 you should see signs of life, I err on the side of caution and always wait a week so that I'm 100% sure before discarding non-fertile eggs. Best of luck! Please come back and let me know how it works out!
I hear masking tape is the most popular, however you could probably use scotch tape. I wanted a tape that would come off easily if need be, which is why I went with the thicker masking tape vs clear tape.
Had the all the Kings Horses and all the kings Men simply had some masking tape, quite possibly that tragedy oh so many years ago could have been averted.

Hello from western Iowa, new sub here - great tutorial on using masking tape to save a cracked egg, didn’t know it could be done!

Did the cracked egg hatch into a healthy duckling?
Yes it did! It was so fun to see (and a bit stressful as I was worried for it) that the duckling hatched successfully!
How to handle it if I not have that magazine
I've heard you can use unscented wax too if you don't have the masking tape option.
Can I use normal tape?
