When you see a person who not only builds his home theater, but also builds himself an app to control everything, you know the person is serious. Hats off to you Nick and thanks for sharing 👍
I recently moved from my large home with a theater to a small 2 bedroom apartment. I wanted to set up a small home theater but there were so many obstacles. This shows you where there is a will there is a way. This guy has literally overcome any obstacle I also have. His ingenuity is great. Excellent job.
Yep, I can put small holes in the walls to hang things (most apartments allow this, simple to patch up). But I didn't think putting holes in the ceiling was a great idea though I never asked if I could. I just decided to find a way around it.
I gotta say - it's neat to see those high end, expensive theaters from time to time, but man... I can't get enough of these budget friendly DIY setups. People who are passionate about a home theater experience without a massive amount of disposable income. More of these, please!!
AXIOM !! Very nice. Made in Muskoka Ontario. Some really nice designs and concepts for loudspeakers. Denon .. Black Velvet .. I love it .. Very clever and comfortable =)
Nice job Nick! Really like the fact you built your own app. I cringed for a minute when I saw the box of remotes without a single do-it-all remote but the app makes great sense! I helped a buddy install a full setup of Axiom speakers in his house and he loves them. Nice work Nick and nice job Youthman. Love the diversity we are seeing with this tour.
Nick is a genius! I I know by the title what we type of home theater it was going to be but the way he cut off the the home theater area from the rest of the room is just Brilliant! I initially thought the whole room was black, doing it his way is so much better and easier to turn back into an apartment. Great job NIck!
Well Nick, as a Canadian, I have to first love your choice of Axiom speakers! - Good choice. Secondly, I also love the "portability" of your system. Even in my own house, I consider the day I will eventually have to move. So, building boxes as opposed to cutting holes into the ceiling for Atmos speakers was important to me.
I loved the Back to the Future decor/memorabilia. I also have the USA Today newspaper in my theater. Love the Pepsi bottle! Nice to see a theater that is a bit stronger in the video compared to the audio.
I love this video. Nick’s hard work has given me some great ideas for my home theater. Thank you so much for sharing this and for explaining everything you did.
Great 'outside the box' thinking to overcome the common obstacles. Makes the end result much more satisfying than getting the pros in to sort things out👍
This is my favorite room out of the HT crawl, nicks mods are awesome, the intro was hilarious. necessity is the mother of invention ! 😁 No excuse to not home theater.
Very nice 👍 takes me back to the old times when I do something like that in an apartment unfortunately we didn't have Atmos channels at that time so it's was a lot easier to do lol
Just saw this video. I live in a apartment and only having a house built only because of that. I had to turn my subwoofer off because my neighbors complain. I am going to sit the subwoofer by my seat. That is the problem. Thanks for the suggestion. Cannot wait til March though
Very creative and passionate about home theater, he might even have a goal to get a nice small or medium sized house one day to really enjoy building a even nicer theater than the one he already has. Way to go kid
I have been here for several years and no complaints. I keep the sub low and rely on the bass shakers a lot. Also the construction of the building helps a lot. Only 1 shared wall which is a double "party wall", and the ceiling above me has concrete inside.
Axiom builds some insanely great surround speakers, I have a flock of QS10’s. The QS8 is also good. The thing that makes them stand out, IMO, is how they are similarly good for both film and music surround, like concert recordings or the quad recordings such as the Chicago box set etc.
I know the VP100 center doesn't have the best rep. I didn't really know that at the time. I am glad to say that it sounds nice and clear to me, so I have had no real reason to replace it for this setup.
Nick certainly shows his HT passion, admirable! Conduit pipe hack is ingenious, I would have never thought of that. Also, it seems center channel has some sort of isolation material? But I wonder if he experimented the same with front L & R?
Hi Nick love your creativity and what you were able to get done while still keeping the building in tack. 😎 Any chance you remember where you got that picture of Alfred Hitchcock’ quote “the cinema is not a slice of life but a piece of cake"? I’ve searched Google, Amazon, eBay etc. and the only thing I could find was a coffee mug.
Well the app runs a "host" portion on a computer somewhere in your network that acts as the hub. In the future this will be able to be run from a cheap RaspberryPi computer too. And then the interface is just a web page being served from the host app, so it's usable from any device with a web browser.
@@nicko880 It truly is a small world! Yeah I’m always interested to see what Youthman has to share next. As you probably know it can be an addicting hobby. That app looks killer! Thanks hope you’re doing well too.
Well done. To get the most out of the space you have to work with. Ever thought about a "false" frontwall like 50 cm out, and place your speakers behind a BIG AT screen? Nice to get the centerchannel in center of picture. Especially if you sit close. No weight if you cover the frame with black cloth.
I have though about it. I am satisfied by the sound without the AT screen at least. I have made my screen as large as possible (limited by the projector's throw distance). Moving the screen forward would result in a smaller picture (though it would also move closer to the seating). But I also have a love seat more to the side that gets used a lot, and the view angle would also get sharper if the screen moved forward mode. Also going with an AT screen right up against the speakers means an AT weave as opposed to microperf (which needs some room between the driver and material), and that means < 1.0 gain (all AT weaves measure less than 1.0 gain in real tests), while I am at 1.1 gain solid vinyl screen now, so a more than 10% loss in brightness there too. Definitely some compromises to make to do that and probably not worth the cost and effort to do it for this setup.
@@Youthman I'd get motion sick from sitting that close to that size screen, so that's why I have to stick with my setup... I might try to go to 100" screen in the future, but we'll see when I upgrade my projector in a year or two.

Plus some amplifiers don't even have a fan inside to cool it down. We could show the best material or installation, but if we don't respect this basic thing ,how can we expect children to respect what we sweat for
It's good advice for sure. I do see people overheat their AVR a lot. Though I don't drive mine hard enough to really heat up meaningfully. It's barely warm to the touch after a movie.
I would love that as well. I just have to be incredibly careful due to copyright. The last time I showed an eight second clip on a projection screen, I received a channel strike from the copyright owner. If I receive three channel strikes, they pull my entire RUclips channel. And since this is my full-time income, I cannot afford that risk for a demo
