Poor old Jimmy Wang Yu, he doesn't have much luck does he? If its not his arm being hacked off then he is blinded.
I actually think Chang Kang must have seen Zatoichi, the Japanese film series about a blind swordsman when they made this. If you haven't seen those movies you really need to check them out, Shintaro Katsu is possibly my favourite actor of all time.
I thought it was an OK film, its not the best in that set but it's entertaining enough. I really like the James Mudge commentary - I haven't heard all of his on this box but he's the pick of the bunch.
    Top stuff mister.

I haven't seen any of the Zatoichi movies but maybe someday when I catch up on SB films! You are right tho - always seems like Wang Yu needs some physical thing to happen to him to make his movies seem more important - does he ever lose a leg?

@@CoinOpTV I have no clue if Wang Yu lost a leg or not, he made a lot of films. I know that in real life he did have a stroke and lost the use of the left side of his body.
You haven't seen any Zatoichi films? You really need to see them, particularly if you like 7 Samurai. Katsu made 26 of them, Criterion released a rather excellent box on Blu-ray that has them all except the last one which was made years after. One of the best Zatoichi films is one that he made with Wang Yu, Zatoichi meets the one armed swordsman - it really is an excellent film about 2 people who speak different languages and can't communicate with each other. You need to see this movie Robert.

@@mitchsfridaynightsongclub2594 as a kid I never really got into Samurai movies except for the Lone Wolf and Cub series -- I even have a difficult time getting into the old Akira films but I can see they are expertly made -- maybe once all the kung fu stuff dies down I'll try revisit them. Are you going to get Beach of the War Gods?

@@CoinOpTV I get your point around samurai movies, I love Lone wolf and cub, actually the actor who plays the main character is Shintaro Katsu'a real life brother. The Zatoichi films are very different, they aren't all about action and they focus more on character. In fact there is more depth than in any wuxia movie.
Yes I have ordered Beach of the war gods - I take it you have as well?

@@mitchsfridaynightsongclub2594 I haven't pre-ordered it yet but I heard good things about the movie -- I'm waiting on reviews because to be honest the audio on the new trailer they released was pretty bad and muddy so I'll wait to see how the final disc turns out -- plus money is tight after ordering all these SB sets.
