    So, there are two types of waterspouts: fair-weather, and tornadic.
    Fair-weather waterspouts are essentially harmless, and can form even without a storm.
    Tornadic waterspouts are legitimate tornadoes born from a large scale mesocyclone that just happen to form or move over water, and they can be just as dangerous as any tornado.
    This one is 100% a tornadic waterspout. It can be extremely dangerous, and I would be seeking shelter immediately upon seeing that thing.

    Technically traditional waterspouts are NOT formed by isolated supercell mesocyclones whereas this one clearly is. These are significantly more dangerous than the vast majority of non-supercell mesocyclone waterspouts.
    Can you call them both waterspouts? Sure, but technically this is a tornado on water rather than a traditional waterspout because they are two entirely separate weather phenomena. This version will cause significant damage and could be deadly whereas most waterspouts are relatively harmless. Much like the difference between land spouts and tornadoes. If you see a land spout or dust devil in the field by your house it’s likely not a big deal, but if you see a tornado by your house? Better head to the basement.
    So in short, a waterspout on the land is a land spout, just as a tornado on the water is still a tornado. Hope this helps.

      it helped.. i was wondering if that thing was tornadic or not

    • @PJKvas
      @PJKvas 5 месяцев назад +9

      @@dco1019 yes, very much so. I grew up on Lake Erie and I’ve witnessed multiple waterspouts. One formed about 100 yards away from a boat I was on during a partly cloudy day. I was initially pretty freaked out but the captain of the boat wasn’t bothered in the least so that sort of put me at ease and we all watched it swirl until it dissipated. If I were on the water and saw this type of storm blow in I’d be on shore long before it dropped that monster funnel.

    Always been a storm chaser as a kid,, Which led me to become a beach treasure hunter, on the treasure coast, So I've seen many water spouts over the years, One in particular,, in 94, Crossed US1, And went through a mobile home park, killing 2 people, This one on your footage, is about the biggest 1 I've seen, Not your typical thin rope, Water spout, Almost looks like a Midwestern wedge type tornado, They usually don't last very long, But they can definitely do some damage, in a short period of time, great footage,, Considering, we're not in Kansas anymore.

    Years ago while fishing off the Keys we saw a spout like that. While we watched it spawned two 'sisters', smaller spouts which rotated around the large one. Amazing sight. Later, partying on Duval the bar emptied out and we watched another spout touch down in the harbor. Crazy weather that year!

      @@UseADamnCoasterNot always. Fair weather waterspouts are formed by different mechanics and they dissipate quickly when hitting land and are usually harmless.
