The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

When they initially posted and removed it from RUclips over the weekend I feared it was lost forever. Thank goodness it reappeared as it is such a fun clip. The smile never left my face the entire video.

People talking bad about Nancy Sinatra do they realize how extremely well she did during that era. After the British invasion on pop music. For a female singer she was the bomb...

Perhaps she initially came to attention because of her father but she had the voice , charisma and stunning looks of a true star - which she was .

This week in February, 1967, Ruby Tuesday, The Beat Goes On, Gimme Some Lovin', Nashville Cats and, of course, Sock It To Me-Baby were being played on WEAM AM Radio in Northern Virginia, just a very shot list of the MASSIVE HIT SINGLES of that month...This is 'square' baby...with a capital SQUARE.

Spyder Logan..... This is Nancy trying to appeal to her fathers generation....??? Nancy S. had limited vocal ability, plus this wasn't her kind of music.
BUT....I think the records she made with Lee Hazelwood.....Boots....Bang, Bang....Sugar Town...Summer Wine...and of course.....Some Velvet Morning, was some great 60's pop music...!

Nancy by her unique creativity and style could circle any square. Here with sprezzatura (the Italian art of making the difficult look easy) she offers a unique dramatization of the flapper~fun 1920s American popular standard song "Sweet Georgia Brown," sung in her sweet mellifluous style. Debatably her talent (if not the volume of her musical output) nearly equalled that of her dad, with whom she did nice duets.

@@greatbyrondo In various ways -- the Twist and other dances that were variations on 1920s Charleston, Black Bottom and '40s Swing dances -- 1960s revived aspects of '20s styles (as the layered fringe short dresses, black eye makeup) in fashion, song and dance, with fresh interpretations.

Watched it with my Mom when it aired. Thought she was the cats pajamas and I'm still captivated. My Mom watched to hear her do My Buddy later in the show that was dedicated to the men in Vietnam. And that isn't a wig; I recall some hairdresser saying he did her hair for the Sullivan show and didn't realize how tiny she was and went a little too high with the hair. But it was the look of the time.
