I didn't think about the fact that you are taller than me and it's so weird how 2 inches affects one's perception of wind on a motorcycle. I love the windscreen where it is, but I also have a 32" inseam, so I reckon it's flowing right over the top of the helmet at lower speeds. I tried moving the windscreen up but it created more blast, I need to try a ride with the screen off and see how that goes. Glad you like the little ADV.. I love riding that motorcycle, feels so lighthearted and playful, and the suspension is great for a factory setup.
Thanks again for the bike swap. The blast hits right above my eye line so I think it’s skipping off my helmet. But all bikes with windscreens have some sort of blast. Just depends on how it affects each individual. I think most stock screens are designed for riders under 6’ anyways, so I’s It’s as expected. Personally I’d rather have a shorter windscreen to take the blast of my chest than a really tall shield. The bike that had the best wind protection stock that I’ve ever ridden was the Himalayan. I think cause you sit more in the bike and the windscreen is almost straight up. Lots of guys on the KLR end up getting the “KLR dash” which puts the windscreen vertical almost Dakar style.
Nice video. Looks like you’re in the Nashville area. You mentioned riding the cb500x. How did it compare to the ktm? I’m thinking of getting the Honda but it’s hard to come by. Or a bmw310gs. I’m close to that dealer on White Bridge Road.
Yup, I’m actually in south Nashville. The 500X is a great machine. But if you’re tall over 6ft. the wind management is terrible without going to extreme measures. If not for that, I would still have mine. I would just go with the bike that fits you the best if you can get a chance to sit on them. The KTM has the best out of the box ergos and suspension. But The Honda is a Honda and it has that parallel twin. They’ve also made improvements on it year over year. As far as dealers go the Honda would give you the broadest network at least in the Nashville area. When I need a service center I have been taking my bikes to Cool Springs Honda. I do my own basic service but for heavy lifting, I use them. I can’t speak to the 310GS… But it seems alright.
