My husband is super handy, thank God and it pissed me off sometimes. He can do all of the car repairs and can fix the washing machine, dryer, toaster, ovens and the tv's. My washing machine and dryer were over 35 years old. They were his Mom's and his Aunt's before that. He kept fixing them. I wanted a new one. He finally surprised me two years ago. They were beautiful and shiny and they suck!!! The washer twists my clothes and ties them in knots. Plus all of my shirts have all of those little rough pilling on them. I never had that problem with my old washer. Within the first two months, Lowe's had to replace the washer for not draining correctly and the dryer four months in, the repair man had to replace the thermocouple and then they had to come back because it would scream when I turned it on. The same repair said, "Yep, they don't make things like they use too, you will have to replace these both in 2 years time. That is how things are made now. Thank God he put the machines in the garage to wash his work clothes. I made him swap them out!

We get donations of wonderful clothes, designer brands, things that still have the tags on that have never been worn but we just have such a hard time selling them. People here would apparently rather either buy cheaply made and flimsy items at places like Target or Walmart or overpriced "name" brands at fancy stores, without even considering our store. Most of the thrift stores in the area support some kind of charity so you are not just making the rich richer either.

I grew up with Depression-era frugal parents and was taught how to stretch a dollar.
    I've never bought bottled water,
    I don't buy Kleenex (I use TP).
I don't clean with paper towels, I use rags, and my dinner napkin is my dish towel (I live by myself).
I cut my own hair and stopped wearing makeup during the pandemic. Makeup now makes my skin feel heavy.
I take my lunch to work most days. I eat out dinner once per week, and a couple days for lunch due to scheduling.
I've shopped at thrift stores for years, or taken hand-me-downs from a sister.
Cleaning supplies consist of vinegar and baking soda.
I purchase a retractable clothesline last year (it may not save much money in the long run, but everything smells better)
I don't purchase plastic wrap, and haven't purchased ziploc bags for years. I wash the bags in bleach water and use them to store refrigerated items.
I don't use foil. See the above comment.
I buy inexpensive shoes: 3 pairs of black shoes (flat, heels, sandals), and 3 pairs tan shoes. I typically buy new shoes every 2-3 years
I subscribe to the least expensive internet services - the high speed and low speed come across the same lines, and gave up a TV years ago. I subscribe to one online streaming service that has an annual fee that is less than cable.
My decorating was established years ago so there is no need to purchase new decor or furniture.
My extravagance is online genealogy subscriptions, and boxed wine (the cost of 1 box is equal to the cost of 3 bottles, double the quantity, and tastes the same).
I don't buy plastic garbage/trash can liners: I use small trash cans and use plastic grocery bags as liners. I typically use my own bags for groceries unless I am running low on liners.
Don't throw away soap pieces. Grate them. But in a plastic bowl and cover with boiling water and a tbsp of cooking oil. Let set a few hours. When it gets sticky, pour onto wax paper, mold it with your hands, then open the paper and let dry overnight. Shampoo can be made by using about enough water to make the soap into a liquid. The cooking oil as a moisturizing component. I've nnot purchased hand lotion for years.
I've never purchased a new car, and never purchase a new-used one until it reaches 250,000 miles.
I am debt free and own 2 houses and have never earned more than $50K per year. I learned a long time ago that "stuff" is only a temporary happy fix and a waste of money.

Never had a manicure or pedicure, I paint my own nails, I don't go to a fancy salon, just a walk in one to get my short hair cut for 16.99, been colouring my own hair for over 20 years, thank you Nice n Easy 😂
I have a keurig at home a do my coffee at home, on Sunday after my Walmart grocery pick up I swing by Tim Hortons and treat myself to a coffee from them once a week, timbits too 😅
I buy second hand everything except for underthings and socks, even bought perfectly good towels from thrift, tossed in washing machine in hot water it's no different then staying at a hotel, why pay more.
My decor comes from thrift stores or the few seasonal stuff from Dollarama in Canada. I never buy the spray bottle cleaners, I have 3 dollar store spray bottles under my bathroom, and kitchen sink, I buy Fabuloso lavender and dilute half way with water in each spray bottle much cheaper, I also use actual dishwasher powder Detergent instead of Pods, much cheaper, I buy a large bottle of dish soap the huge 1.8 litre one , pour in my hand soap dispenser by the sink and it doubles as handsoap in kitchen.
I go to Dollar store and buy the large bottles of liquid hand soap and put them in the Soft soap dispensers I have in bathrooms. I also never buy brand name bleach cleaners. I dilute actual bleach in a spray bottle for each bathroom, it saves money.
I wrap my roasts, whole chicken and family package meat items in 3 layers of newspaper, keeps in freezer up to a year no freezer burn, my dads a farmers son told me that one.
I try to be happy and content with what I have, I had to leave my part time work as a cashier in a grocery store 3 years ago, my heart condition well I was taking an extra pill to prevent an arrythmia episode. So I consider it my full time job to care for the home, my family and continually think of ways to save a buck, it actually can be quite fun , my husband is happy that he sees an empty fridge at the end of the week and we use up everything little to no food waste. 😊

I totally get why there are somethings that just shouldnt be bought and I practice some of them however, I dont think there is anything wrong with a woman spending a little extra money on herself like going to the Salons or buying makeup ect. A woman deserves to feel pampered and make time for herself especially when now a days there is so much going on . She has a right to that and as much as I love being frugal I love going to that Sephora or Macys Cosmetic counter and buying what I want because it makes me feel so pampered and wonderful and I have no guilt about it. Believe me you dont know what your missing.

I LOVE being frugal, BUT I always feel guilty spending a lot of money on myself - it feels 'unfair' to my husband. Yep, it's a stupid way of thinking! I've now found ways to compromise........my husband applies my haircolour as needed, bless him, he's doing a fabulous job, I cut his hair and beard and now I've discovered a college near me where students do hair and beauty treatments and honestly, I've had 4 really excellent haircuts there for $5 - as opposed to $35+ for a lousy cut at a retail salon. I figure I'm saving HEAPS so l indulged in the second manicure in my entire life - and now I GET IT!! I felt more confident, polished, cared for, less dishevelled. I lashed out and had a facial and massage there too (both for $40) and was amazed at how much I ached less, was more flexible and had more energy the next day. So, yes, NOW I get it and it's all about what YOU value and deem important! Yes, watch those pennies and enjoy your pampering - you CAN do both at the same time! Cheers from Oz!!

Tip on Prime subscriptions...I sign up for them if I know I'm a repeat purchaser. I review the scheduled list every month before it's finalized for shipment and adjust whatever I don't need yet. Pass it to the next month, or farther, if I know I'm not going to need it yet. This preserves the discounted price and I don't have to remember to order.

I use Prime membership for medical supplies. My husband is legally disabled so he gets half off on his account. Then I have a walking app that pays me $5 every month for Amazon gift card. I apply that to our account a day before our account is charged and Amazon takes money out of that.
So instead of paying $7.99 for Amazon, we only pay less than $3 a month.
I have to buy ankle compression sleeves so I can walk. They can't be anything and luckily the brand I use went from $20 to $10 and now under $8. The brand I buy from also offers 10% off inside the purchase you bought. So once a month I wait for my husband to get paid and buy only one pair of these compression sleeves using the 10% discount code.
I buy a lot because they tear and so I'm not reusing a dirty pair and so it shrinks back keeping its compression.

I put things in the freezer and refrigerator in glass containers like pickle jars or jelly jam jars. I also use plastic containers like that. You get certain kinds of ice cream in. Those are big containers that I can use for a lot of things that are bigger. I haven't bought Tupperware in 15 years I'll bet. I shop consignment stores and get really nice clothes. I am minimalist.... Sometimes I have to give myself permission to keep things.... as my grown-up daughter pointed out... Mom you are giving things away.... taking them to Goodwill or Salvation Army, when you may need that item... and have to repurchase it and that's not cost-effective.... I live in a camper year-round in a campground in Michigan.... I'm the opposite.. of a hoarder... I have very little things and that actually makes me very happy.... The things that you mentioned... Many things I have done...for many years... I'm much older than you I've done those things for a really long time, that was due to raising my kids as a single mom and not having the money... And I found the less I had the happier I felt... However... I do buy quality things... and sometimes expensive things, if I know they are going to last... It's okay to spoil yourself and do something nice for yourself... Even if it's on a regular basis... people are worth it.... I applaud how you've lived your life... it has given you more money in your pocket... However, remember that you are worth it, and it's okay to do some things for yourself and not feel guilty that you spent the money.... Take care and understand that minimalism is different for all...... I look at your house full of things and I think you have too much... Where you may think you are on point in that area...this definition is different for all of us minimalist..I also think it's okay that you want to live in that way, and that you're helping others to have a better financial future is admirable....however, everyone has their way of living life, and enjoying life.... your way of life may not seem reasonable to some.... And to others....they may need to hear what you're saying.....God Bless you... I'm glad that you're happy with the decisions you make...I also celebrate others ...that may choose to spend their money differently 😊🎉

Men have done this for years, and I feel like it’s time for women to come to the understanding that your femininity doesn’t reside in your hair. With bleaching and a cut I spent close to 200$ every 7 weeks. Now, not only do I not spend a dime on my hair (I shave it myself) but I also eliminated the expense of shampoo, conditioner, straightening serums, hairspray, elastics, heat tools, etc. It’s also a win for the environment. 😃 💴

There was never a bad hair day, always looked good, very easy care, and inexpensive. I went to barbers for haircuts. They may have charged a little more to cut women’s hair, but it was a fraction of what I would pay at a beauty salon. AND I love my hair to lay flat. I don’t like it puffed up. It was a barber who told me I had to comb my hair forward to achieve that look. Of course, you cannot do that with long hair.

Nice to have a husband who can do things like change the oil of a car. I’m with you on all the things you don’t buy anymore, all but a new car. That I do every two years because I love a new car. It’s my splurge and I never have to worry about repairs. I don’t care if it loses value as soon as it leaves the lot.

My husband will serve himself at least 2-3 servings of a larger pack so we run out sooner therefore single serve is more economical for us as he rarely will eat or drink more than 1 single serve. I enjoyed your list - it's very similar to mine. The one thing I would mention, though, is that the extraction of the raw elements to make aluminum (for your foil) is one of the MOST polluting industries on our planet. We rarely buy anything made with aluminum, and if we must, we always make sure it's cleaned and put into the recycling bin. Maybe skip the tin foil whenever possible. ;)

I actually have more luck finding clothes that fit me well, and that I love, at thrift shops compared to stores, and there's no tax. I also buy my purses at the thrift shop, usually $1-$4, the designer bags being $4. I also buy massagers and different exercise tools there - so much cheaper than retail, and high-end stuffed toys for my dog to play with - $1 makes it even cheaper than cheap toys at the dollar store. I got an amazing scratching thing that my cats love for $4. I know someone that worked at my favourite thrift shop, and she said that they will give clothes/winter coats etc. for free to someone if they can't pay (homeless or whatever) and really have the need. It is run by a church, and is cheaper than 'Value Village' type stores.

I'm with you on about 16 or 17 of these. I would not be caught dead gambling-what a terrible waste! I'd much rather put the money in my savings account. I do keep some small bottles of cola in case I don't feel well, as that is always the first thing that tastes good, and I will drink a can of LaCroix water maybe once or twice a week as a treat-no sugar, calories or caffeine, so one of the few good things for us. Also, I do use plastic wrap since I live alone. If I buy hamburger buns I wrap each one individually and put them back in the bag to freeze-never have any freezer burn that way.
Thanks again for another great video!!

I have a list of things I never waste money on. But its MY list and I dont ask anyone else to adhere to my list. And, its not etched in granite. As I go through life, things change. Im 68. Things that are not important to me may be deal breakers for others. I started with the size of space I NEEDED to live in. I refuse to pay for 2 extra bedrooms when i have not used them except for storage. Same with my garage. I dont drive. Why do I need a garage? So, each person should take a hard look at their lives IF their serious about saving money or living a more frugal life.

With paper napkins vs cloth ones ... with cloth napkins you have to wash them, which uses electricity that you pay for, and water and laundry detergent which you have to buy. The washing machine also doesn't work if the electricity goes out. Paper napkins are like $1.50 for 300, on sale. Or BOGO free.

The only one I disagree with is extended warranties. My husband is a diesel mechanic but with the new technology and expenses with modern vehicles, an extended warranty has saved us multiple times! I bought a used Jeep Grand Cherokee that had an air ride suspension system that went out. Over a $7500 fix but was thankfully covered by the extended warranty we paid $1500 for. I will say though, we never buy a warranty for anything but vehicles.

Clear plastic bins with airtight lids have saved me tens of thousands of dollars.

I use glass pickle jars, glass salsa jars, glass olive jars. You get the point. They store a lot of things. They're excellent in the refrigeridge and they do okay in the freezer too. I use plastic tubs that I buy my ice cream in sometimes for big tupperware containers. After I wash them. They work fine. I haven't bought Tupperware in in a very long time. I use a dryer rack for half my clothing and household products. My husband doesn't like his on a dryer rack. Have used cloth napkins for 45 years. Don't use paper towels often. May buy a paper towel roll once every 10 to 12 months. We have rags and old towels that were given to us by various people that we don't need to have for toweling things. They work perfectly as paper towels. I use vinegar and Dawn dish soap and water for my bathroom cleaning. I dilute my dishwashing soap quite a bit. Things come out very clean. We use Grove collective for our dishwasher. It's commonly free of chemicals like you find in Cascade. I use a binchotoan charcoal water stick for filtering my water. It's more economical than Brita and it can go in the backyard to decompose.
