- Sometimes in the winter freight trains can be running late for various reasons such as problems with the train, weather conditions, earthquakes, and avalanches. When this happens one can see a freight in the daylight.
By that time a new crew has replaced the previous crew and are trying to get to the destination. I sometimes can be lucky enough to be not working or to be out to catch such a train. This day I was out filming Snow Fleet and I knew this train was late.
It was dumping snow while I was standing waiting for this train and Snow Fleet, a storm that brought over two feet in 24 hours. The snow was deep enough for the lead locomotive to cut the snow like a battleship. This can be considered rare as most of the time trains running in snow storms kicking up the snow like this one did as the freight trains run at night.
Dang that horn sounds like an evil banshee on a mission. Intense and worth the wait haha
Perfect how that snow was coming off the plow.
You should have seen it in person!
@@rrmike90 I bet it was awesome!
That was impressive , I suppose its just another day in Alaska 👌👌👍👍
Well sort of, it snowed three feet in 24 hours starting when I was filming this train! That's not a common thing!
The snow’s resistance is futile😨🥶.
5 engines, wow!
Wow! Awesome video. Love the snow
Wow superb 😍
OMG look at the snow😮
Train line ends at town of Nenana
All that diesel fuel in those tankers. Probably for villages. Train goes thru Wasilla every night. Well, 5am . . . so I guess early morning. Horns blaring.
Actually the tankers are empty. The southbound freights are mostly empty, that's why when you see them they never have engines placed in the middle. Loaded tank cars are on northbound freights and are mostly jet fuel. Thanks for watching my video!
I've never seen a crossing in the us to have the lights mounted above the crossbuck, also great catch
theres 2 crossings in busch gardens williamsburg that are actual commercial railroad crossings and thats how they did them. Watch a video of the busch gardens railroad full ride and watch for them
Think about it! the entire cantilever walkway was filled with snow! a few more feet and those lights would be in the drift if they were mounted normally!
Edit: it's probably just for better visibility.
This crossing is in an area where there can be a lot of snow. In fact the day this was filmed, it was snowing and the next morning there was three feet of fresh snow. So in places like this where the snow can get really deep, the lights are mounted higher to stay out of the snow.
I love riding in snowy track
What's snowy track?
God willing train will make it through
Thank you Balto, I'd be lost without you.
man thats one log train no onder 5 locos pulling😊
In all honesty it was an empty southbound freight, northbounds usually have DPUs. This freight would have gone north with 3 leading and 2 in the middle. Thanks for watching!
one heck of a long train
Yes is was. Would you believe this is considered a short freight?
Maybe 125 cars.
Average day in Alaska
5.1 earthquake Nikiski Alaska
Just a jiggle.
God willing train will make it through
