I did the same as Marine! Secretly playing games in the dark at night while listening for the threat of approaching parents.
I used to do the same and had one of those lights you could plug in the link cable slot on your Game Boy. They were terrible and the light mostly reflected off the Game Boy screen, but back then you had to make do with what you had😂

@@MonkeyDefenceForce thing is, I am 31 and I only got GBC and GBA, so even if she is as old as people say, her playing GBA as a kid actually makes sense. It is just that we are sooo old now. Keep in mind that there are whole ass grown adults nowadays who were probably too young for the DS and only played the 3DS....

@@Harril8265 just getting games doesn't makes you rich, but the way one getting one sure will reflect whether or not you're loaded or not. Some of my friends (including myself) will have to saved up our allowance from our parents, while there are some other that could just pulled out their phone, called their dad, asked for a sum amount of money and get the game, which i've seen 1st hand lmao

@Haru Usami I've noticed people from well off families often don't think they're rich and have a much higher standard for "rich", cause they really don't know what it's like to not have money.
@@djengle91 Well that's how it is and its pretty normal, they will compare themselves to much richer family than say poor,idk if they're trying to be humble or deflect etc not to be seen "rich" for any other reason etc, but yeah if you grew up well off you really won't understand how/what's life like being poor etc.

Man, hearing Marine recount the struggle of trying to play OG GBA secretly without a good light source really takes me back.
I still remember the janky 3rd-party contraptions I bought to provide illumination to my little purple handheld. The real trouble, though, was finding a way to hook the light and the GBA up to AC power, so you weren't burning through batteries like you were playing Game Gear.

once those flashlight attachments for gamboy came out it was amazing. Made it way easier to play under the covers. and then once internal lighting became a thing with the sp it was a total game changer. Everything looked soooo good and was so easy to see, and didn't need any weird peripherals to play anywhere.
On days when I was really sick my parents would immediately be like "Fine you can not go today but when you go tomorrow you have to ask your classmates for today's assignments and homework so just know you'll have double the work" So most of the time it wasn't worth it and I'd go anyway lol

GBA, PS2 was cool kid's golden standard back then even before the existence of Smartphone. The only downside i have for GBA v1 was the lack of backlight until GBA SP came out.

I remember when I was younger, I would hide my IPad in a pillow case next to me and wait for my mom (who slept in my room) to fall asleep so I could go on it. Granted I was bad at it since I would end up watching videos that made me laugh and my mom would wake up and tell me to go to sleep.
I would play Pokemon Blue and eventually Silver under the covers in bed. I was so thankful for those little twirly lights for it.
