This is one of my favourite ever games but for anyone interested, it absolutely has to be played on a CRT screen. The game takes advantage of dark blacks and high contrast lighting more than any other, and it's completely lost on modern flatscreen HD televisions. I tried playing on an LCD screen originally and it was almost indecypherable what has happening half the time, but coming back to it on a CRT it's night and day in difference.

LCD Screens are not modern, they are completely trash. The first Flat-Screens were LCD in 2010... You find LCD in the cheapest Screens nowadays and in the Switch, because it's Nintendo and they don't give you good hardware. If you got a decent IPS Screen you should be fine. CRT looks good for the game and specially older games for PS2 but an IPS Screen with 1080p-1440 or 4K does the same. Got one and it's just like my CRT put with more colors and higher resolution
Keiichirō Toyama is one of my favorite game directors, this game style is frustrating but still incredibly freighting to me. I loved this series, and happy to hear your take, even though I disagree with a few points. Great job with the channel.
I remember taking a deep interest in this game back in middle school to high school? Or just high school? And was intrigued by how creepy it was. I watched a walkthrough of it from a RUclipsr whos channel ended due to some controversies.. He was pretty spooked but also complained about how frustrating the comtrols were. Which is why I was discouraged on playing it, because im not a fan of playing horror games with terrible controls and feel like itll take away the immersion of the horror its supposed to have. Maybe I'll buy it on ps3 before sony shuts down thr severs... Overall ss always good review. Hope you're in good health and all is well for you!
i love the atmosphere of Siren, specially the effects that is present while you're watching through other people's eyes, and i also agree w your rating!! do you ever plan on doing a review about "the devil came through here" trilogy? not necessarily reviewing the three games, but one of them? (the games being: the cat lady, downfall and lorelai)
I actually have all of those games, I started the cat lady a while ago but a recording error in the mid game meant I’d have to start from the start to recapture and I shelved it. Their in my collection though so I’ll get to them eventually!
I searched this everywhere and not once have I found someone talking about how being able to look through the shibitos' eyes kill the entire mood because you're not gonna be scared if you know where enemies are, right?
As someone who didn't use the ability that much in this version of the game thanks to the framerate drop, it never made the game scarier or killed the mood. In the PS2 original game which I've been playing it's more disconcerting to hear them heavy breathing and seeing yourself through their eyes. I don't know what the popular opinion is though.
@@HorrorReview Yeah, I get that. I'll try to keep that in mind and see through that lens when I play it again. I just bought a physical copy of the Blood Curse version.
I really wanna like this game, but the controls are horrible in my opinion... I love tank controls for anything horror, but this was way too much... have the camera always behind you and so close to you makes it a real struggle to just navigate, even without enemies... I'm not a big fan of the episodic thing either, but that's just personal preference I suppose.
For me, most of the characters ruin the game for me and i absolutely hate the sight jacking mechanic. The game is at its best when you play as Bella. In my opinion, the game should have centred around her.
Yes. I was looking for this comment for a long time. I found it. Someone also who hates sightjacking. I played it Day 1. It was such a good experience because I don't get scared with games, but this one managed to scare me. That is, until I learned I could see through shibitos' eyes. That killed the mood. Where's the fun in that? I know where everybody is... But I'm gonna buy it again and try to get passed that. I think I got to that this part here at 6:16. I'm not sure if that's much far in the game.

Jesus, that game looks and plays like a PS2 game, can't believe it's a PS3 game. I mean nothing against PS2 I love that console but at least make the Remake a true Remake
It came out in 2008; you'll have a hard time finding games that looked better back then. It also has a Sightjack feature that splits the screen into 4 different perspectives in real-time. It's amazing it looks and runs as well as it does given it's rendering everything 4 times at once. It was also a very early example of 3D face scanning actors in games, which somehow looks better than the face scanning stuff Capcom is putting out on the RE Engine to this day.

@@paddtron oh come on. GTA 4, Final Fantasy 13. The PS3 released 2006 and with it games that looked between PS2 and PS3 but 2008 games started to look really better Edit: This 4 times rendering isn't true, it's called Split-screen 😂 They render one, like every other game
@ Games render what you can see and nothing else, it doesn't render what's behind you or around a corner because it would take too much processing power. Siren: Blood Curse lets you lock 3 enemy view-cams onto the side of your screen as well as your usual camera, so it's processing 4 times as many visuals as usual. Granted if all 3 enemies were in an empty room with you at the same time it wouldn't have as much of a toll but that's never the case. Final Fantasy 13 is also a game from 2010 and looks awful for it. GTA IV looks fantastic and was also one of the biggest budgets ever in video game development history at that point. It's fair to complain about things in Siren: Blood Curse if you didn't like it, but the visuals are great. If you want to see how it would actually look on PS2 look at the Siren PS2 games.

@@paddtron 🤦 They load the entire Map and then render what you can see. It's just Split-screen that we have since the beginning of console gaming. You make it sound like it's something special that needs super optimization, which it doesn't

I played on a lcd and it looked great. Still a boring game.
@IPS is a type of LCD
@@Jonnygunboy basically play the game on a good monitor xD
You don't need a CRT, an OLED screen will give you those inky blacks.
This game feels like the last true PS1 survival horror on a next gen.

Wow nice, that’s pretty expensive here.
@@HorrorReview Thanks. I found it for (converting the currency) 60 USD.
I never heard about this game until it popped up on my Ig wow it looks scary but good looking scary
Witch siren do you like better this one or the original
This one is more playable, but the original really does have the better atmosphere.

Yes, the sight jacking mechanic is god damn annoying. Its one of the reason why i could never like the franchise.
