Evelyn Preer (Georgia Rose, Ladies of the Big House) stars as Sylvia Landry, an educated black woman who wants to help a school for impoverished black children. Unfortunately, Sylvia finds her controversial past getting in the way. This 1920 feature from pioneering African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux was thought to be lost for decades until a copy turned up in Spain during the 1990s. The Library of Congress immediately recognized its historic significance and preserved it; the film is Micheaux’s earliest surviving effort.
