- Years after the Void War, after the fall of Shurima & Icathia, Azir and the one's that were once gods, the haunted and broken souls remain unable to die wandering Runeterra. Among those souls there's Aatrox and The Darkin Aegis or the Aegis of Pain as he calls himself internally.
The most broken of them all. A true example of the trauma that war causes.

@@UnsheathedWill the darkin were once Ascended beings like Nasus and Renekton. Guardians and protectors, but many lost their minds after fighting the void and became corrupted thus becoming darkin. I really wish we get a skin set were we get to see pre darkin champions.

@@boodywolverineThat isn’t the case. That skin is just Aatrox in another universe (The justicar/Archlight one) Varus also has a skin in that skinline. Riot hasn’t made any official artworks or concepts on how Aatrox looked before his corruption.

The “Darkin Blade” alongside the “Darkin Aegis(Shield)” would be dope af. I do believe at some point they will start bringing more dark-themed champions. For now we are stuck with cuteness overload
Joraal as a support darkin would be great. That way we could have a full team. Also makes more sense for him as a traumatized shield.
Imagine his ult would be like kayn's but on allies
@@user-rf3ug1uh4b Nah it would be like a big Yorick wall around dealing with an AOE dot outside, in reference to how he held the line, but also how inside he is broken (no AOE inside the walls)

Aatrox shows care for Joraal, as they were brethren before their Darkin demise. He cares as Joraal was able to take many more hits than himself, but his mind could only hold on so much. That is why Aatrox is my GOAT.

When aatrox said the line “easy captain your peace is at hand” in response to joraals cries is heartbreaking but if you listen carefully his voice almost has a hint of doubt, aatrox has been suffering from the void for centuries but nobody was hit harder than joraal, his shield and body was unbroken but his mind was shattered, aatrox knows his goals for compete oblivion is impossible, he knows he’s fighting an uphill battle but the action of completing a mission is a distraction to his pain, the bloodshed is only a distraction to the fact that he is doomed to the perpetual torment he is forced to endure, he says joraals pain is almost over but he knows first hand how much of a lie that is, such a tragedy the darkin are.
The phrase "it grows in me" makes me feel completely terrified. Think in a parasite being stronger inside me while destroy my body and mind and that suffering never ends. It's very scary
It’s truly tragic and the irony is he’s a Darkin who possessed another person’s body. His story is very much a reality to many real life soldiers who survived the horrors of war. That’s why I look at LoL lore as “more than a game”.

A darkin support would be far greater than your typical “cuteness overload” concept imo. And yes I agree, it would be a fine addition to league’s lore as everyone digs Darkin lore. Smolder’s lore on the other hand is kinda meh but I guess it is what it is

Just to be clear, while the story of the Darkin is one of tragedy, their characters are still human monsters. The void creatures are described as otherworldly horrors, their presence taints the air, while seeing one fills even the bravest of men with dread. The Ascended saw thousands of warriors slaughtered by them, and some also peered into the void rifts and saw the Watchers, which nearly broke their minds.
However in reality, even considering the outside influence, they still chose their own fate. Of course the story never tells us how large the Darkin wars were, but we know they ravaged most of the known world. They conquered many nations and caused countless deaths and incomprehensible suffering. Not to mention they hated each other and constantly waged war amongst themselves.
Their punishment might be unjust, but thats a bit inconsistent in the story. Even after Naafiri, the only Darkin who really suffers from their imprisonment is Aatrox. Thats why this entire LoR Darkin stuff hardly counts as anything near canon. Its bad enough that they didn't tweak Rhaast's story after Aatrox had his rework and with it we got the new Darkin lore, but this new stuff takes it to a next level of poor and inconsistent writing :/

@@thatwolfinyourbackyard6011 kinda true but they used armys of humans to battle eachother (just for the fun of it they kinda dont need them anyway) , the poor humans couldnt exactly say no or not fight , if they lost their darkin leader theyd be killed by the other army.

Even Xolaani was a healer/war doctor in the wars. She wishes to end wars permanently in her own twisted way. Aatrox doesn’t want to see his brethren mind controlled and suffer further 😭😭

Here's a theory I've had for years before Legend of Runeterra even became a thing. How are we sure the Darkin War actually happened? Who's to say the Targonians didn't fabricate it? What if the Darkins indeed have become so powerful, people began to worship them, and the Targonians wouldn't have that. So they slandered the Darkin and imbued them with a curse so vile, it's sure to drive them mad.
As petty as it sounds, that is how gods ofter are
Hell, the first thing pantheon Did was to Take the body of Atreus and find a darkin to kill, it may very likely be of jealousy or pride (unfortunately for him, he found Aatrox, who proceeded to run him through with his blade, killing the ascendant and leaving Atreus to grit his teeth and live)

@@northernalpine4350 On top of all that, I was analyzing the ingame quotes of Aatrox. How he calls Pantheon a betrayer and a fiend. Calling him out for crying of friendship and brotherhood.

When Aatrox mockingly hails Pantheon, he also says "How noble and proud he carries himself." heavily hints at what the Targonians did to the Darkins. As if reminding the proud and noble Pantheon of a dirty secret.
one of the reasons Aatrox despises the Targonians and their aspects so much is primarily because of the aspect of twilight, namely the one before Zoe. The aspect gave the humans the means to seal the Darkin within their own weapons, trapping them in prisons with which they never be heard or see. Aatrox’s story even described being inside as a feeling of always having your breath caught in your throat, being unable to breathe, or even truly die for that matter.
Its a good theory but if I remember correctly the ascendants were a mix of mortals fused with celestial power through magic rituals in ancient Shurima thus the fall of Shurima left them purposeless and became corupted over time. So I don’t why would the targonian even bother since they were “Shurima ONLY”
@@UnsheathedWill The Aspect of Change was the one who trapped the Darkins in their weapons. And Aatrox implies that Pantheon had betrayed him at one point in time. So the Targonians do bother even if Darkins were from Shurima. And given that history is written by the victors, the corruption of the Darkins could have been nothing but a blasphemous slander. When Shurima fell, there's nowhere the survivors can go. What if the Darkins didn't lead armies to fight each other, but took Shuriman refugees in, who started to worship them in time? Jealousy is the greatest flaw of Gods in mythology, who's to say the Targonians didn't harbour it?

He’s a broken character, not a ‘bad’ guy. He has somewhat embraced the fact that he cannot die so for his suffering he chose to destroy everything

Imagine for a second that you are a warrior who was the pride of your troop, one who went in first and left last. That was who Joraal was, he was a great man who kept his brothers and sisters alive but at the cost of his own sanity slowly being eaten away day in and day out by the void. Tank mains know Joraal's pain, he most likely became unfit for his duties as the corruption ate away at him until he was the last one "alive" so to speak.
Imagine your friends, the people who went through hell with you dying as you watch and are unable to do anything about it.
Imagine losing a war, experiencing and witnessing war crimes (void awakening), losing your land and the people you swore to protect who gave u the title of the ‘hero’ and seeing your brethren get imprisoned and suffer in the most cruel way possible. All that while you’re a master at protecting, a master and the best with the shield…the irony and tragedy behind this character is too much 💔

It's a character from Legends of Runeterra, Riot's card game in which the lore is connected to LoL. The voicelines can be found on the internet and more specifically from LoL Wiki. Also, Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

A lot of you Aatrox mains would love to fight alongside Joraal in battle, but me as a Varus main would love him as a support with a special synergy in our kits. Kinda like Thresh and Kalista. I think he would need some strong CC, and also some passive stacks that we can both detonate would be pretty amazing. Probably asking too much, it would be too OP 😂
If Riot actually pulls this champ out correctly, they can design him in a way to synergize with every Darkin champion. A darkin support concept would be bada** but they are overloading us with "cuteness"
Their vessel could die, but they... They are not... They are cursed to being immortal, being enraged... Cursed to suffer from they becoming darkin, to the end of the universe

Can anyone tell me where these voicelines for Joraal were taken from? I've never heard his voice. And the dialogue is a little confusing. They were not Darkin yet at the time of this battle with the Void at Icathia. They were Ascended.
The voicelines are from Legends of Runeterra and dialogue has to do with his “ptsd” sort of thing which indicates that the Void War still haunts him as he’s also talking in past tense such as “I held the line”. Hope I made it clear 😁

Is joraal dead?
No and that's the problem. Darkins "can't really die", they are forever imprisoned inside their weapons which makes them neither dead or alive if you get what I mean. They only take over the ones who touch them and use them as vessels. All darkins seek freedom which is essentially death for them. Even Xolaani is slightly misunderstood because of her corrupting other Darkins, her goal is to end wars and is convinced that the only way to achieve this, is to force it.
