Sam Wilson decided to take up the ‘Captain America’ mantle in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which aired on Disney+ last year. After initially giving the shield away, Sam watched as another man, John Walker, was handed the title. He almost ruined the Captain America legacy as his violent and unjust character was shown through a bloody daylight murder. Sam tore the shield away, with the help of Bucky, and finally became the Captain he was meant to be.
We also saw the return of Sharon Carter, Agent 13, who’s intentions remain untrustworthy. She was revealed to be The Power Broker and has now infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D as a double agent.
It is likely that the next Captain America film will have Sam and Bucky fight side by side against a world of corruption and secrecy. Potentially we could see the return of Hydra or the rise of The Thunderbolts as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is in play. She recruited John Walker to an unknown cause and, in Black Widow, hired Yelena Belova to assassinate Hawkeye. Her plans are currently unclear.
Moreover, we’ve seen the return of Peggy Carter as Captain Carter in Marvel’s What If…? animated Disney+ series. It wouldn’t be so far fetched to have a live action Captain Carter, as the multiverse could allow Peggy from another universe to crossover. But could she be trusted?
