I did not understand one single word-but l love this greek music... and: no matter who sings in greek, it makes me sentimental... it has something magical in it.. hard to describe.
    What are they singing about?

The (poetical) lyrics are by the Greek poet and writer Manos Eleftheriou. The song is an excerpt from the album: Grammata ston Makrygianni (=Letters to [General] Makrygiannis), probably the most famous work by Ilias Andriopoulos. Ioannis Makrygiannis, well-known for his "Memories", took part in the Greek revolution of 1821 and later led a revolution (on 3rd September 1843) that resulted in a constitution of the Greek state under the Bavarian king Otto, that meant the change from an absolutist monarchy to a constitutional monarchy.
The song which mentions the 3rd of September is essentially a patriotic song of freedom. The refrain says: "I will meet you again in the gardens, come there on the 3rd of September, and be sure to offer tsikoudia (a Greek liquor) to the brave young men in the coffehouses." The first verse says: Write only your name - and this you learnt it half. To spell your dreams in Argos and at the Ilissos [a river in Athens]. This may refer to the fact that Makrygiannis allegedly learned how to read and write late in his life before writing his Memories.
The third verse says: The narrow bridge of the world, we will pass it together. Your heart will be a window and your words old wine.
