I was just wondering if they had tiny double pointed needles that I could use for baby knits. That’s too funny! I hope that you conquer the moths! 14:48

We get Carpet Beetles in the American south east. They are some old Jamieson wool but leave the nylon sock blends alone 😢 we do frequent vacuuming and bag up anything wool in ziploc.

We have floor boards in most of the flat, I wonder if that’s making it worse too. There’s quite a few gaps in between them…

You caould also try using the vaccum storage bags after washing /spraying. i do this at the end of every winter.

Really sorry you've got moths/beetles. I had moths that came in on a wool rug from IKEA. It took a year to get rid of them. A National Trust conservator told me what they do is put the item in a plastic bag, freeze it for a week, take it out put it somewhere warm then refreeze it again for another week. The rapid changes of temperature is what kills the larvae and any eggs. I then leave the item in the bag and check it again after 10 days. If any eggs survived they will have hatched by then. Repeat the freeze/thaw/freeze. In Winter the eggs can take weeks to hatch so keep the yarn in isolation somewhere warm.

I have had moths and the best thing I found were sticky cardboard things that attract the male moths which are the ones you see flying around, the males get stuck and they can’t get to the females to breed, I got them from the hardware store and vacuum frequently, good luck they’re a nightmare

Oh ok! I’ll have a look for them here. That sounds very useful! They are a real pest indeed. 😒

I have also used these and they work well..just like the ones for pantry moths.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but that larvae isn't from a moth. It's a carpet beetle. Fortunately, most things that work on moths also work on carpet beetles, but you might want to look into the differences between the two. Hope your stash is safe!

Oh ok I’ll have a look. 👀 hopefully we don’t have both because I’ve also seen actual moths flying around too. 😟

@@wildknitsglasgow The moths could also be a different kind of moth. I believe there's like three different ones (clothes, grain, and a third I don't remember). I'm friends with a collections' carer, and what they primarily do in museums is freeze things to below -17 degrees C for a week, but this is the solution for the most delicate of things. Also you have to put whatever you're freezing into the freezer while it is already at -17 degrees, otherwise the bugs can acclimatize to it like they would in winter. That's a longer rant, so I'll move on 😂
For wool especially I recommend doing a vinegar wash. 1 parts vinegar to 3 parts water and let the garments soak for an hour, then rinse. That will kill eggs, larvae, and adults, plus it's a lot less harsh on you and the environment.
Carpet beetles also can't handle temperatures above 50 degrees C for a span longer than 30 minutes, so if you dare you can throw stuff into the oven under constant surveillance. I've got a bunch of notes on this stuff, so if you'd like to know more I'd be happy to share! And hopefully this can help others as well
