Malfunction drills are as important as being strong.
I don't know exactly what the problem was but I suspect: some weapons don't like a full 30 round mag UNLESS the bolt is locked open BEFORE the magazine is inserted. Otherwise a full mag won't lock in with the bolt closed.
Knowing what you weapon likes as far as full magazines doesn't require you to fire your weapon. Take caution if doing this at home.
During a competition isn't the time to learn something new about your weapon/magazines.
